The Fence Is Up To Napolitano

Well the fence is a stupid idea unless our primary goal is to create jobs.

The only problem is which side to put the people who built it on once it's done.

The south side, unless we build it with Canada in which case the north side. It doesn't matter who builds the fence they should still end up on the other sid when we finish and we know that because they are building the fence.

Why have a border at all?

Lots of reasons. That doesn't make a fence any less stupid.

Name lots of reasons.

I'd make minefields, then put up billboards warning of the danger. Fuck fences.

Secretary Napolitano and members of the DHS Field Research Team inspect one suggested security fence model for the southern U. S. border.

Businesses and corporations love illegal immigrants because they can be exploited for cheap labor.

They are willing to work for a mere fraction of what it would cost to hire a legal US citizen. Plus they don't have to give them health coverage.

Furthermore, Obamacare offers employers
(both large corporations and small businesses) an incentive to hire illegal immigrants instead of red-blooded, English-speaking Americans.

Fences have never worked.

On another note - I find it amazing that so many people in Oz are freaking out over a relatively small number of boat people (refugees) arriving in our territorial waters, when places like the USA and Europe are dealing with enormous numbers every day.

They can . . . Kangaroos are one thing, and Mexicans are another. ;)

We have a super-long rabbit fence - didn't work.
We have a dingo fence - didn't work.
We don't have a kangaroo fence, but if we did, to work it would need to be at least 20 feet high.
The Chinese had a rock fence - didn't work.
The Germans had a concrete fence - sorta worked, but only because there were soldiers stationed every 10 metres.

If you build a fence, how do you plan to make it work?

Here's the sell out:

REPACKAGED AMNESTY BILL ALLOWS NAPOLITANO TO NIX BORDER FENCE
by MATTHEW BOYLE 22 Jun 2013

Another loophole inserted into the new version of the “Gang of Eight” immigration bill allows Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano (or any of her successors) to nix the construction of a required border security fence if she does not find it to be an "appropriate" use of resources.

The new version of the bill was introduced via a so-called “border surge” amendment from Sens. Bob Corker (R-TN) and John Hoeven (R-ND), with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid repackaging the whole bill into the amendment.

On page 35, line 24 of the new bill, a provision was inserted that says Napolitano--who already believes the border is secure--can decide against building a fence if she chooses not to erect one:

Notwithstanding paragraph (1), nothing in this subsection shall require the Secretary to install fencing, or infrastructure that directly results from the installation of such fencing, in a particular location along the Southern border, if the Secretary determines that the use or placement of such resources is not the most appropriate means to achieve and maintain effective control over the Southern border at such location.

The “paragraph (1)” that new waiver refers to is the one that supposedly “requires” the construction of a fence along the border.

Not later than 180 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary shall establish a strategy, to be known as the ‘Southern Border Fencing Strategy,’ to identify where 700 miles of fencing (including double-layer fencing), infrastructure, and technology, including at ports of entry, should be deployed along the Southern border,” that paragraph of the bill reads.

This could allow illegal aliens to be granted amnesty, or legalized “Registered Provisional Immigration (RPI)” status, once Secretary Napolitano submits a fencing (and border security) plan to Congress. However, this provision allows Napolitano to decide against building the fence after doing so, with no legal ramifications.

As Breitbart News has already detailed, a similar provision was inserted with regard to border security technology requirements.

I've been asking this in several of your immigration threads, what good would a fence do? I think there are better uses for my tax dollars.

Fences have worked throughout history to direct/influence behavior. They are not 100 percent perfect or intended to be.

The "Gang of 8" proposal is a repackaging of Reagan's failed amnesty and the previous amnesty proposal from McCain-Graham a few yrs back.

Well, that's where the minefield and the alligator-stocked moat come in. (Never tried those, didja?!)

Yeah, a border fence can work -- if it's something along the lines of the Korean DMZ. Which is very expensive, and still needs to be patrolled.

Exactly how many miles of fence would need to be patrolled?

This one'll create lots of permanent jobs.

Fuck yeah! Why is Mexico so damn special? We want a fence too. One made of Raven tears and sphagnum moss held together with dental floss.
