The Feedback's gone awful quiet

Am I doing something wrong?

When I posted the first two parts of 'Change of Plan', some months ago now, I got some positive feedback. Parts 3 and 4 were posted recently. Feedback? Zilch. (Actually, 1) (And nosedives in the voting, but then, that's another story...)

I would appreciate it if some of you might take the time to go look and let me know what you think. I promise to reciprocate.:)

Maybe it's just me, but I have noticed that when I post multiple chapters the sequels just don't get the same number of votes or feedback as the original. Funny because usually the original feedback requested the sequels.

On the other hand. When I am rummaging through the "New" posts I usually skip reading chaptered stories unless I have read the previous chapters. So maybe that explains the lower voting and lower feedback.

Ditto to Ray's comment.

Ditto to Ray and d_d's comments. (Ohhhh... can i be in the middle?)

If it's a chapter story, unless i know the author and know i've read and enjoyed the prior chapters, i never open the Chapter 4 part of it on its own.

I'd like to thank those of you who took the time to send me feedback on Change of Plan, Ch. 3 & 4.

I'd like to, I really would. But I can't.

Because you didn't! Not one of you. :(

Oh, well, in the absence of outright criticism, I'll carry on writing.

One thing, though. Noting the comments from Ray, d_d and Cym, for which my thanks, in future each part of a continuing story will be titled individually with the 'group' title as a sub-title, will stand in its own right as a reasonable read, and in line with Weird Harold's comments on my 'Mult-part story' thread in the 'Author's Hangout' area of the Lit BB, will contain a link to the previous part. In this way anyone interested enough can find their way back through the tale.

PS: No feedback, and 1 vote. God knows how many actually read the parts!

Frederick, i'm sorry you felt bad about the lack of response to your feedback request. This Board seems to run in cycles, i've notice, with respect to that. Sometimes people do a lot of responding and sometimes, like now, people seem a little more absorbed in thier own everyday lives and come here only to list thier own stories and ask for feedback. It's definitely not personal nor does it have anything much to do with your stories. (Although, as you must realize, asking people to read Chapters 3 & 4 mean they have to go back and read Chapters 1 & 2, too, to do the story justice, and that's quite a time sink for many.)

However, be of good cheer. The chances are quite high that WAY more people read and enjoyed parts 3 & 4 then you'll ever know.

It's an established fact that there are thousands and thousands of people who access Lit every day, and that at least some stories have a totally astounding (like 7,000 or 4,500) number of "hits" on a daily basis. If your stories got only 10% of those hits, even 1%, you'd feel good, wouldn't you?

I would.

So, go on the assumption that you got those 70 readers, that they liked your work, and that they're waiting somewhat impatiently for you to produce more. Besides, you like your own work, don't you? Do you really need the feedback?

Yeh, feedback is cool. It's wonderful to hear that someone likes your stuff. It's even great to get some thoughtful constructive criticism, stuff that is in the spirit of helping you to become a better writer or helping your story read better. But the fact remains that none of us gets all the feedback we want. Sometimes we don't get any, a total drag but not necessarily a reflection on our work or our worth as a writer.

Feedback is kinda like that smooth bit of warmed cognac after a great dinner. It's wonderful but simply isn't a part of every dinner.

Just keep writing.

Thanks, Cymbidia. Just one or two would have been nice! You make me feel better, anyway. At least there's been no out-and-out flak.

My post was at least partly tongue-in-cheek. Just feeling a little blue, I guess.

Incidentally, congratulations on Part 5 of the 'Memoirs'. A fine piece of work, madam.

PS: Rather a good single malt than a cognac, to me anyway, just 60 miles south of the Scottish border.

The other side of the Border is a far more enchanting option Frederick. OK - So I am biased - I admit it!

I read your work - and liked it very much, keep on writing. I`m keen to see it develop.

Hugs,

Heart xxx
