Jack's Slight Foul Mood with Mister Taylor and then Emmy Comes Along
"Jackie ... please. You're sister's fine. She'll be fine. This house is packed with people. There probably isn't a room in the entire place that doesn't have at least two dozen people in it."
“Mister Taylor, it seems you don’t understand. She is not fine,” Jack replied, crossing her arms. “Emmy had no experience with men. I want her to have one she won’t regret. And Mister Montgomery will be something she will regret.” She studied his reaction, her eyes narrowing a little more as she could feel, more than see, this apathetic attitude. “I don’t care if this whole damn place is packed! I told her to say within eyesight of me and Blair!”
"She'll be fine, Jackie," he repeated, urging her to follow him the opposite direction than Monty's bedroom. "C'm'on ... come with me."
For a moment, Jack felt as though her father was talking to her. Like the times when she was little and one of her animals had died. Not her fault, by the way. But before she could respond to the older male, Emily wrapped her arms around her waist, causing the female to relax and loosely wrap her arms around the girl’s neck. “There you are, Emmy, I was—“
"Jackie, I have great news!" She shouted, a smile reaching from ear to ear. "Mr. Montgomery offered to host my party next week! Can you believe it? He said he'll take care of everything! That means you don't have to spend the rest of your savings on me! Jack .. Jackie say something ..."
“Bye, Mister Taylor,” she waved at him.
Jack blinked, taking the time to process what her sister said. At first she looked ready to kill Monty, then calmed as she saw that it wasn’t all that bad. “Alright Emmy,” Jack smiled, not able to really deny the girl anything—not boy related. “I’ll talk to him and lay down some laws.” She ignored the comment of ‘spend the rest of your savings’. She wanted too. “But, as you’ll be having one anyway, you have to wear the dress I’m getting you, alright?”
She pointed toward the garter. “And no wearing that again,” she gave the girl a look that said there would be no arguments. She moved to kiss the girl on the temple. “Would you mind doing this for me? Please?” She wouldn’t admit how long she had saved up to get the dress of this design. In this town, it was considered a custom design. “Hey, on that note, did you see where Blair went?”
