"The Farmer's Daughters: Take Two"

Jack's Slight Foul Mood with Mister Taylor and then Emmy Comes Along

"Jackie ... please. You're sister's fine. She'll be fine. This house is packed with people. There probably isn't a room in the entire place that doesn't have at least two dozen people in it."

“Mister Taylor, it seems you don’t understand. She is not fine,” Jack replied, crossing her arms. “Emmy had no experience with men. I want her to have one she won’t regret. And Mister Montgomery will be something she will regret.” She studied his reaction, her eyes narrowing a little more as she could feel, more than see, this apathetic attitude. “I don’t care if this whole damn place is packed! I told her to say within eyesight of me and Blair!”

"She'll be fine, Jackie," he repeated, urging her to follow him the opposite direction than Monty's bedroom. "C'm'on ... come with me."

For a moment, Jack felt as though her father was talking to her. Like the times when she was little and one of her animals had died. Not her fault, by the way. But before she could respond to the older male, Emily wrapped her arms around her waist, causing the female to relax and loosely wrap her arms around the girl’s neck. “There you are, Emmy, I was—“

"Jackie, I have great news!" She shouted, a smile reaching from ear to ear. "Mr. Montgomery offered to host my party next week! Can you believe it? He said he'll take care of everything! That means you don't have to spend the rest of your savings on me! Jack .. Jackie say something ..."

“Bye, Mister Taylor,” she waved at him.

Jack blinked, taking the time to process what her sister said. At first she looked ready to kill Monty, then calmed as she saw that it wasn’t all that bad. “Alright Emmy,” Jack smiled, not able to really deny the girl anything—not boy related. “I’ll talk to him and lay down some laws.” She ignored the comment of ‘spend the rest of your savings’. She wanted too. “But, as you’ll be having one anyway, you have to wear the dress I’m getting you, alright?”

She pointed toward the garter. “And no wearing that again,” she gave the girl a look that said there would be no arguments. She moved to kiss the girl on the temple. “Would you mind doing this for me? Please?” She wouldn’t admit how long she had saved up to get the dress of this design. In this town, it was considered a custom design. “Hey, on that note, did you see where Blair went?”

Paxy's Nervously Confused Attitude

"I'd know those eyes anywhere ..." she said, just above a whisper. "Paxton Charlie-Asher? Is it really you?" she asked

Paxton was going to continue walking, but then she touched him. Looked him in the eyes. He couldn’t help but have a blank look on his face. He closed his eyes for a moment, before plucking up his courage. “Yeah,” he responded, his voice empty. “Unless you wish me to become invisible again.”

He had written to her, every day for two years. Never once had he gotten a response. He had called her home, but Jack and their father had said… Blair was currently unavailable or she was out. He had tried to apologize, he tried to explain he couldn’t stand seeing her sad. That that day, he was going to confess but someone else beat him to it. perhaps, it was his way of getting revenge. He looked in the direction of where Harvey was.

Taking a deep breath, he looked back at Blair. He had a feeling he would loose his arm due to lack of blood. But the man didn’t comment, instead just forced himself to look into her eye years. “You look more beautiful than ever,” he commented, ignoring everything else around him. He was solely focused on her. “How have you been? No doubt too busy to call or write back to me.” There was a hint of… disappointment? Betrayal? Paxton had tried to talk to her. Wrote to her constantly.

Of course, sometimes he talked to his father about how much hell he was going through—and pining after his childhood crush. And it still did to this day. Reaching a hand out, he carefully placed a hand on her cheek before realizing the action and moving it back to his side. “Sorry, sorry,” he looking down at his feet. “I shouldn’t have done that.” Paxton actually had no idea what he was apologizing about. He trembled slighty, unsure how to proceed.

Looking around, he grabbed her hand, and led her out the back of the Estate, through the patio and to the small waterhole where he used to visit Blair. He was surprised he remembered the way—then again he also supposed it was because he had his fondest memories here. The smell of trees and fresh air allowed a lot of the tension to leave his body. He started to feel more confident in himself as he suddenly stopped and gripped her shoulders firmly, forcing her to look him in the eyes.

“Why the hell did you never return my calls? Why the hell didn’t you give me a chance to apologize?!” he started, his voice barely able to hold all the emotions threatening to spill over. “Why the hell didn’t you give a damn chance for anything?! Why, Blair, why?”

He didn’t touch her sexually—no, he wasn’t going to either. He wasn’t the type to ever force his affections. Well, affection. He never wanted to hurt the woman, even if he literally kept her at arm’s length. He held her away from him because he was afraid he might do something extremely stupid. He might try to show her how much he cared.

Removing his hands from her, he let them dangle at his side. What did it matter now? She would probably yell at him, hit him, blame him and then run off with… he almost growled as he thought of Harvey touching HIS Blair. He would make the man’s life hell if even he even THOUGHT of Blair like that. No, she was lady who was to be woe—courted, really. You didn’t just come out and say, ‘Let’s have sex!’ Paxton remembered how word spread about all three Townsend girls. Blair, the oldest, was open to much. Jackie was… well, he heard that she was a real firecracker—she’d really kick your ass. And then Emily, the youngest—an innocent lamb. Many of males talked about having a go at the sisters.

Paxton was one of the few who kept their mouths shut and didn’t comment.
