Mylan CEO Heather Bresch goes down in flames defending $16M pay raise and EpiPen price hike

Mylan Pharmaceuticals CEO Heather Bresch is desperately trying to control the public relations disaster created by her company’s decision to jack up the price of the life-saving EpiPen drug by 450 percent over the past 12 years.

In an interview with CNBC on Thursday, Bresch insisted that “no one is more frustrated than I am” about the price increase, which she said was necessary to cover all the marketing and distribution costs that are needed to make the drug more widely available.

“We’re manufacturing the product, distributing the product, enhancing the product, investing,” she explained. “When we took over this product eight years ago, there was very, very little awareness. We have doubled the lives of patients who are carrying an EpiPen. We have passed legislation in 48 states to allow undesignated EpiPens to be in schools.”

Her father is a Senator.

Sen. Manchin finally responds to his daughter’s company jacking up EpiPen prices

EpiPen maker’s stock value plunges nearly $3 billion as investors panic

Over the course of her tenure at the company, Bresch — daughter of U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV) — raised her own salary 617 percent and conducted an offshore reincorporation of Mylan, Inc. under the Netherlands’ looser corporate laws, but maintained the company’s headquarters and operations in the U.S.. This practice is known as “inversion” and it has become a popular way for U.S. companies to lower their effective tax rate while continuing to enjoy all the market rights and privileges of companies conducting all of their business domestically.

No, EpiPen did not lower their drug price — they pulled a sneaky ’Pharma bro’ trick instead

Bresch said the company had offered coupons instead of cutting the cost because insurance companies and pharmacy benefit managers were also involved.

Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and members of Congress called on Mylan to lower the price, and a bipartisan group of lawmakers have called for a congressional investigation.

Bresch, daughter of U.S. Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), said she hopes to meet with lawmakers to discuss drug pricing.

Please pass this all over the social networks amd hold Hillary to pressing the face of Greedy Pharma into the shit. A grass roots program of pressing this issue hard is really needed to force the DC Beltway to address this issue once and for all.

What with Greed, Political influence and corruption involved it is an ideal subject to force a change for progress.

Oh yay more government telling companies how to price their products.....nothing un-American about that

Bunch of fucking tyrants in this piece of shit control freak country.

Wasn't there a story out recently stating that the FDA had essentially removed all competition on the delivery design?

I know the drug itself contained in the epi-pen is about 30 cents a dose.

Nothing like greed in the medical field. I hope these people rot in hell.

The whole premise of 'intellectual property' needs a serious looking at. It has been designed to make rent seeking by the rich appear legitimate.

Write your congress critters about your reactions to this issue. Raise Hell in your districts, bitch every fucking day until Congress addresses this. Break up Big Pharma Bigly! Demand that the Government can negotiate drug prices for Medicare and Obama Care.
Don't be Sheeple, sheeple!

I'll sign petitions. In the meantime, I'll be working until I drop dead because that's just the way it is. I don't have the time or energy to bitch every fucking day to a legislator who is already getting paid on my dime to do jack shit but pass more abortion laws.

It doesn't have to be that way.

Have you written to your Senator Cruz about this Issue? Even once?

Jack, and whoever else is interested: Cruz does not give a fuck about what I think or anyone else thinks. What he cares about is getting elected and voting against abortion. He is the recipient of numerous petitions on different issues that I've signed. I have health insurance, and like a lot of other people, cannot afford to get the health care I need, even with health insurance.

This issue is not new. People are still dying from lack of health care, from not being able to afford the prescriptions they need, or the treatment they need. I could drive myself crazy worrying about this, but I got to the point where it's whatever happens, happens, while I sign petitions. If this is not enough for you, I do not give a shit.

Capitalism isn't inevitable, natural or permanent. It is a construct by the rich for the rich.

The rich can be overthrown.

I think it's obvious to most Americans that the natives are restless. While the Texas legislative branch continues to legislate abortion and wanting women who miscarry and have stillbirths to pay for burials (because it's the least the woman can do for the dead products from her body), most Americans are concerned over stagnating wages, a job market that sucks, universities that haven't kept up with the reality of the 21st century, and skyrocketing medical care. And the GOP's presidential candidate is a man who calls women fat pigs. Yea capitalism. :)

I think the whole world would breathe a huge sigh of relief if Americans rose up and overthrew their ruling class.

I seriously doubt that.

Most people want peace and security and to know that their kids will lead a better life than they had.

That is not happening under the violent cosh of US hegemony.

Nobody wants your wars.

Hey don't get mad at me. I know what it's like to be poor and frustrated by asshat pols. Unlike some on this board I'm not mad at anyone. Well except for a few asshat Congress Critters and sanctimonious zealots.

I try to keep my sense of humor, because I know how self-destructive a lack of humor can be.

Have fun and give the bastards hell when ever you can is my motto.:)

Mylan may have violated antitrust law in its EpiPen sales to schools, legal experts say

It's a gift of grift! LOL :D

Schools across the country keep EpiPens in their nurses' offices in case a student has a severe allergic reaction. For years, Mylan Pharmaceuticals has been selling the devices to schools at a discounted price, giving them a break from rising costs. But the program also prohibited schools from buying competitors' devices - a provision that experts say may have violated antitrust law.

Mylan's "EpiPen4Schools" program, begun in August 2012, offers free or discounted EpiPens to schools. Over 65,000 schools receive free EpiPens through the program; an unknown number of schools buy the epinephrine auto-injectors at a discount. Laws in at least 11 states require schools to stock epinephrine, and keeping a stockpile is incentivized by federal law across the country.

OUR wars? Good one. Yet every nation expects the US to fight their wars.

Let's be honest. At least half of the wars have some immediate economic interest behind them, or are intended to extend one's sphere of influence.

In saying that, a lot of european countries prefer the lesser devil of the two: the US over Russia.

Nice response, JL. :) When Texas legislators decide they know jack shit about abortions, miscarriages, and still births, and the finances and hardships that go along with it, I might reconsider calling them just to welcome them to the 21st century.

You, for one, wouldn't have a clue how to even keep vehicular traffic from plowing headlong into itself if existing government systems were overthrown. You'd just stand there and bitch and moan.

I tend to think all wars are fought because men like to acquire what doesn't belong to them. And they tend to think they can use brute force or money to get their way.

Unfortunately some wars are fought from the perception of nothing more than belief in defending "face." The second Gulf war, for instance.
