A poorly printed paper held her schedule, the young woman holding it doing her best to try and make sense of it. She was trying her best to understand so many things at this new school. The exchange program had seemed a wonderful way to spend her senior year, as well as a chance to escape her mother. The woman was driving her insane... But here? Here she had a chance to be whatever she wanted.
America was her Las Vegas.
What happened here, stayed here.
The smirk managed to return to her face at that thought, checking the classes on her list and finding the first to be nearby. Biology. Hm. Dissecting of frogs and such? She'd rather be studying more on the human anatomy.
Stepping into the room, she wrinkled her nose at the smell lingering inside, finding a seat at one of the raised stools behind a long black table. Resting her chin against her palm as she waited for the teacher to turn back around from the chalkboard, she played with the zipper on her bag, twisting the cord in her fingers.
"Good afternoon class," The teacher called as the last of the students trickled in. "It seems we have a new student among us. Miss Hendrik, would you care to introduce yourself?"
"Nein." Ricki barely even looked up from her bag, still toying with the tag as she ignored the teacher's request.
Mrs Hescher gave a light frown at that. "Miss Hendrik. Please?"
With a sigh, Ricki flicked herself off the stool, wandering up front and folding her arms across her chest. "Mien name is Ricki. It is not short for anything. I am from Reinheim, Germany... and if you have anything against germans.. Well..." Ricki shrugged, then held up both hands, middle fingers extended. "I salute you."
"MISS HENDRIK!!"
"What?" Ricki tried to look as innocent as possible, her hands still extended as she gave the teacher a blank look. "I was introducing, as you asked."
"Get to the principal, right now, young lady!"
Ricki tried to stifle a laugh, waving slightly to the infuriated teacher before adjusting her bag over her shoulder. "I take it that was not what you wanted?," She asked sweetly, starting through the door. Once outside, she laughed even louder, halting abruptly as the man she had been sent to see nearly collided with her. The smile fell.
"Hallo." Her voice was meek, her eyes wide.
He just stared at her with a frown, reaching down to take her wrist and leading her to his office. A lecture, a reminder of her status as a visitor to this school, the impression she was making of her own school- and country. She feigned interest, nodding at random intervals as she let her mind wander. Yeah. Right.
"I'll be calling your host family about this. I'm sure they would love to hear about your first day."
She frowned at that. Well, if he did try to punish her, she would simply call home. Tell them he was abusing her. That would work perfectly. Reminding him of this fact would save her any additional concerns on punishment as well. Who would they believe more? Even if she were 'trouble', the mention of that word would make her seem the purest angel.
"No humor to you, is there?," she asked with a frown. "I was simply trying to make the joke.... Laugh. You look so angry. Is not healthy," she chided, slipping lower in the seat as he glared at her, the phone in his hand.
This wasn't going well.
