If the EU is such a hotdoggin all fired up fuckin great idea, how come I cannot bring back my smokes and booze? How come if its an OPEN market I cannot bring back porn and weed from Holland? The only way it would ever work is if all laws were consistent across the whole continent and applied correctly. The whole system is a heap of bollocks.

Sorry for sitting on the fence on this one people....:D

Whilst my concerns are somewhat different, I couldn't have put it more succinctly myself!:D

Quite simple really. Convergence of tax laws takes time, as does agreement of member states as to exactly which items can be imported.

The booze and fags allowance has just been upped quite a bit and the grand debate on pot goes on with the loosening of how the police carry out their duties to the fore...

Personally I've never had trouble importing porn even when passing through customs. I've just declared it, signed a form saying it was for my personal use and hey presto!

I suppose it'd be different if I was trying to import truckloads of the stuff, but I leave that to the people in the business and use their sex outlets to buy it...

And there's enough porn on the internet to keep anyone satisfied...

Everything takes time...

Tax law.........do not get me started. The forerunner of the EU was the common market. As the name suggests it means that Europe was to be a marketplace. There is no law against bringing in 100, 1000 or 1000000 million cigs so long as you pay the duty at the point of sale. It is only the individual member states who so flagrantly flout there own membership to fit in with the duty imposed at their own checkpoints. If you note the government phrases every thing as a guideline so that they cannot be accused of breaching the law. Personal use you mentioned they have raised the amountof booze and cigs....so if I smoke 40 a day and only go once a year that makes 14600 cigs, I do not think HM C & E will wear that!!!!!!
