It certainly feels like we're all being prepared for a major announcement; something either about to happen or that has perhaps already happened:

The Queen's children have all arrived at her bedside in Scotland.
Harry and Meghan are there also, which wouldn't be the case if she just had the sniffles.
The familiar euphemism "resting comfortably" has been used.
BBC news anchors are in dark clothing.

This thread can be used for further updates, reflections on her 70 years of heroic figurehead-dom, and discussing whether Manchester United is finally getting things turned around.

She’s lost a lot of weight since May.

My mom is going to be devastated.

The fact she is in Scotland says everything.

Edit: Charles should immediately pass the torch. He is unworthy and will only continue the diminishment of the family name

At least they are not sending her to Bognor.

George VI's last words when told he might be sent to Bognor to recuperate were either:

"How goes the Empire?" (official version). or

"Bugger Bognor!" (more likely version)

As much as the idea of monarchy and privilege rankles it is a lot less odious than
President Johnson / Farage / Gove et al
That is the only saving grace.

Can you imagine the utter shitshow that would have occurred had the former president been re-elected and the Queen passes away? He'd be relentless at refocusing public attention on himself.

"We had beautiful phone calls! You know, if she wasn't the queen, I'd date her."

70 years serving her country is above and beyond the call. I'm not a real fan of the royal family but, as mentioned earlier, the idea of someone like Boris or any current politician being named President is more abhorrent. AT her age and with her health issues it was only to be expected, though always a surprise when such a longstanding facet of British life changes so suddenly.

Prince Charles in now King Charles and Camilla is Queen Consort... things are as they were supposed to be. There'll be bitching about Camilla having that title, and bitching that neither Prince William or Harry are named King but fuck it.

Isn't it wonderful? Diana gets to meet her at the Main Gate and inform her she needs to enter by the servant's entrance. I actually pitty the UK...they get worse than what we had for 4 years

i'm thinking the funeral will be something worth watching; after 70 years she deserves a good send-off. If nothing else, Brits love the occasional splash of pomp and ceremony. Most people in the Uk have always only ever known a Queen as head of State, and she has the hearts of many many more than Diana ever did.

I don't envy them having to remember there are new lyrics to their national anthem now. It's bad enough for Catholics when they're always swapping out the popes and bishops we're supposed to be praying for, and then you slip up and say the old name. Those guys don't hang around for 70 years.
it will revert to God Save the King and definitely sound strange
