It's qiite simple really.

The left has passion and true belief in what they are trying to achieve. After all nothing changes without confrontation.

Whilst the Right has complacency and a vested interest in keeping the status quo.

That's why the Right attacks individuals because they know the status quo is inherently flawed, and that they have no real logical argument against changing it. So they resort to personality bashing.

Whilst the Left addresses issues because they also know the status quo is inherently flawed but feel, with a passion that there is something better and fairer for all people out there somewhere.

Out of two speakers on a platform give me the Left winger any day who can make you weep with emotional passion rather than the Right winger who can make you weep with pent up frustration.

What a stupid, biased, fucked-up theory.

Both major parties in America want the best for this country. They just have different methods for achieving their goals. Just because you don't get excited by what someone on the right has to say doesn't mean it isn't said with passion or conviction.

This is why politics in America is as divided as religion in the Middle-east.

Both sides think they are the only ones with all the truth, all the compassion, all the answers.

utter crap from both of you
the uk has a dictator with right wing ideals that claims to be a socialist
the us has an elected by the people president in the pocket of big business
read the book fast food nation and find out what is really happening in the usa

Actually I'm all over the board these days.

I just see everyone trying to squash everyone into left and right corners, and nothing getting solved.

I see our political system being steamrolled and destroyed by big money from the left and the right.

I see people that think everyone who's not in their camp is the enemy.

Yeah, I'll run right out and buy it for sure, especially on your recommendation.

You young'ns don't really know...

what being left wing is all about.

As an old man (I'm even older than that old man I'm a veteran of the sixties and seventies.

One of the proudest moments of my life was when I joined the French students in manning the barricades in Paris in 1968 and helped bring down the Government.

Which as you all know began a change in many "status quo" situations in Europe. And we all watched in silent support (well not always silent) as American Left wingers (don't forget Kent State University) brought about changes in your own society...

Nowadays there is a certain merging of the two opposing ends of the spectrum...but it's still an uphill struggle.

So this is what happens to hippies when they get old enough to draw a pension.... They get reminiscient about the good old days of sit-ins and riots. Must be frustrating to now be limited to posting angry words on a porn bulliten board.

God I wish you'd been there with us Texan. Standing shoulder to shoulder against the injustices of the day.

I can see you as one of the greats up there with Tariq Ali and Peter Thatchell. People you probably don't know but heros in Europe.

I can almost feel the passion oozing out of you.

The Left lost a potential leader when you chose the other route.:D

Hippy? I was no hippy. Far to busy for hippiness!

Pension? I have no pension...yet. I just happened to have started early.

Porn? What porn....we have porn here?

A bleaker view, borne out by experience.
Right wingers are people who are afraid that if things change significantly, they will get worse, the wrong people will be in charge, and they won't be able to cope with it.
Left wingers are people who are afraid that if things don't change radically, they will get worse, the wrong people will be in charge, and they won't be able to cope with it.
Moderates suspect that things never change, and try to tinker with the details in search of a tolerable life.

The Left takes you to the Deidrich's coffee on the corner.

The Right takes you up the hill to Sessions Park.

I like to take my coffee with me to the park. Maybe that's why I can't pick a party.

The Left is for more legislation. The Right is for less legislation.

Sounds funny, right? The Left wants to have a more socialized form of government, like Canada and England has. Such socialized things require more laws that rule behavior and more taxation. The Right wants less legislation, particularly in the fiscal sense. Big business you know. The Left is more socialistic and the Right is more capitalistic. Not socialistic as in the USSR, but socialistic as in things like welfare and medical reform. Neither is bad and neither is wrong. Liberal and conservative do not refer to passion, emotion, logic, sexuality or views on how to behave. Liberal and conservative refer to capitalism and republicanism. Not as in the GOP, but as in representative form of government.

To say that the Right is stagnant and the Left is passion is utter bullpuckey. PP Man, for all you blather on about US politics, I think you're lacking some fundamental understanding. And being a female, no, if you don't know I'm certianly not going to explain it to you.

The Left and the Right CANNOT exist without each other.

The right is for more legislation.
The left is for even more legislation.
The center is for hunkering down and hoping the fuck they can get thourgh just one more day without running afoul of too much legislation.

You can't just paddle on one side of a canoe. If you do that, you just go around in circles. It's fine to have strong opinions one way or another, but as a nation you need the collision of opposing viewpoints. The truth is never found to the left of left, or to the right of right, but in the middle. P P man was wondering why Americans have an aversion to communism. With communists, it's either their way or the highway, or rather the prison. And expressing your opinion, or even your religious beliefs is enough for the State to silence you for years.

peepee man

PeePee:

You've seen Les Miserable too many times.

Do you hear the people sing?
Singing a song of angry men?
It is the music of a people Who will not be slaves again!
When the beating of your heart Echos the beating of the drums
There is a life about to start When tomorrow comes!

Will you join in our crusade?
Who will be strong and stand with me?
Somewhere beyond the barricade Is there a world you long to see?

unless it's something high profile which the whole world knows about and then I do dip a toe in the water. And like all toe dippers everywhere I make the odd mistake.

My comments were general ones added together with a bit of popular outlook and a touch of my own experience.

I could add that I was also at the Berlin Wall 1n 1998 bashing away at it with a hammer and chisel until we created a hole through which we shook hands with a very nervous, heavily armed East German border guard. But I won't.

KM I suppose I shouldn't be surprised at yoiur comment but other countries do exist and they too have Left and Right wings.

Oh, Piss Boy

I try to keep away from American internal politics

Could have fooled me.

PS: None of the students killed at Kent State were protesting.
They were innocent bystanders.

Blimey. It's almost dinner time. Bubble and squeak tonight!

The Left will feed ten people that don't need assistance to assure one that does, gets it.

The Right will starve ten people that need assistance to assure one that doesn't, doesn't get it.

I'd really hate to see either side run away with it all.

I fart right down the middle. Unless I lift my leg.

I think that's the crassest thing I've ever posted.

Where do libertarians fit into all this? Are they left wing or right wing?

Those that do nothing, about nothing, to achieve nothing and then complain about nothing?

Also known as a debating society...

Hmmmm... I was there in early 1991 and most of the wall was down already. By 1999, I could find only a few sections left standing for the tourists.

And it was a THICK wall. A hammer and chisel would take forever to make a hole big enough to reach through.
