Loosely based on the TV show Lost, this would be sort of an alternate universe only adapting certain parts of the series, and instead of focusing on survivors of a plane crash, it would tell the story of the Dharma Initiative in a modern day setting.

In 1970, a group of researchers and government scientists -- funded by the Hanso Foundation -- formed the Dharma Initiative to investigate supernatural phenomena around the world and conduct research experiments in those locations. By 1977, they had hidden facilities in Antarctica, Romania, Japan, Mexico, and Australia, in addition to their primary headquarters just outside of Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

It is now 2017, and most of these other stations have been closed down for years. The only facility still in operation is the one in Sydney, Australia. This station covers all the hands-on research activities, while upper management handles the administrative and legal functions for the Initiative from an office in Los Angeles.

One of the most important projects at the Compound in Sydney is the Farsight Scanner, a large circular table that projects a holographic replica of the planet. There are computer consoles along the edge of the table and they connect to a network of satellites and sensor arrays to scan the world for spikes in electromagnetic energy, which usually indicates something supernatural occurring in the vicinity of the spike and displays the location on the Hologlobe.

In the decade or so the Scanner has been fully operational, most of these occurrences were nothing more than weak poltergeists and mild hauntings that were easily resolved. But a few years ago, the sensors detected a massive electromagnetic burst emanating from a large island in the South Pacific. The Initiative sent in a team of scouts to investigate, finding that the island was home to a number of strange mystical creatures that most of the world considered fictional, including goblins, gremlins, pixies, gnomes, boggarts, sprites, phoenixes, mermaids, and many others. At first glance, these creatures appeared to act as wild animals and displayed no human-level intelligence. They wore no clothing, used no tools, and only built simple structures, similar to nests and dens built by other animals.

In the last three years, more teams have arrived on the island, which has been dubbed "Pandora". They now have built a small complex along the west coast of the island, called "the Hub." This is where ships and planes arrive and depart, and includes a little marketplace for foods and goods and a residential area. The Hub has several paved roads leading off to other parts of the island, where a number of research stations have been constructed.

Our characters are the most recent additions to Pandora's staff. For whatever reasons, the Dharma Initiative sees value in our skillsets and has contracted us for a one year rotation on the island. You can be paranormal researchers or scientists or worldly explorers or demon hunters or whatever. You can have multiple characters as well.

After a few months on the island, a team of excavators discovers an ancient tomb hidden in the caves further inland. A number of the staff -- including our characters -- arrive to explore the tomb. Inside they find a large circular chamber with a tall pedestal in the center, upon which sits a black crystal globe. As they near the globe, misty shapes begin to swirl inside, almost as if it has smoke trapped inside. One of my characters reaches out to touch it and suddenly it begins glowing bright purple and the entire island seems to experience an earthquake.

The one who touched the globe is suddenly enveloped by a purple aura, his eyes turning pure black. He lifts up the globe and smashes it on the ground, releasing dozens of demonic entities that were trapped inside. They pass through us as smokey mist and we all collapse unconscious as the island seems to shatter around us in the increasing intensity of the quakes.

Suddenly we all wake up back on the plane as we approach Pandora, realizing we were just sent back in time to our bodies four months prior. Now we have to find out why we were sent back, and try to stop the globe from being destroyed. However, we soon realize that shards of those demonic entities must have come back with us, because we begin developing various powers, and the creatures of the island start developing higher intelligence. What's worse is that the character that shattered the globe the first time is now obsessed with repeating the act, guided by the voice of a black dragon who goes by Caleb.
