About 42 St NYC, early 70's. Maggie Gillenhaal is outstanding. Margarita Levieva reminds me of the college girls I use to roll around with back in the day.

I like David Simon's previous outtings, the Wire and Treme´a lot. I need to check this one out. I just saw its been picked up for a second season.

we're loving it here

and with james franco as exec producer and maggie gyllenhaal as producer of 8 episodes, as well as franco directing his own twin-performances... awesome stuff.

I think that Maggie Gyllenhaal is awesome. There was a great scene in Sunday's episode of her reaction to being unsatisfied by her lover. I don't want to spoil it for those who have not watched.

70 and 71 my freshman and sophomore years, we spent a lot of time bar hoping and hanging around Times Square. The producers nailed the atmosphere.

I like it so far, but Maggie Gyllenhaal is by far the best reason to watch.

Margarita Levieva is curious casting; she's closer to being eligible for AARP than she is to college age.

Freshman and sophomore year there were girls who were still girls. There were also a handful like her who were more worldly. I had such a female friend who would borrow my room to fuck one of her professors.

I could do without all the man on man action, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

So I guess just the one problem then.

Actually her acting is pretty decent in it. She is believable. I just cant stand looking at her. Especially naked.

so do i. her acting makes for a wonderfully believable character tired of what's she's doing to survive; beaten and used, using and determined not to get beaten by the system, her strength as an individual.

she's fascinating to watch, and the double parts of franco are pretty interesting, too, imo.

she's only 37! and looks so young for that given the hair and 70's stylings. i hope to see a lot more from this character with her new ballsy attitude to the pimps

that's great acting - especially in the scenes where she's alone, drinking, not trying to 'look sexy' for anyone.

I've only seen the first episode, but it's good enough for us to delay our annual hiatus from HBO streaming following the season finale of GOT.

I really love the show so far. The only downside is, it'll never get the critical acclaim it deserves in America because of the subject matter and the amount of nudity/sex in every episode (even though it's true to the time and place where the show is set...and the subject matter).

I'll be curious to see what happens as it goes forward. They're going to have to balance the idea of getting into the movie/porn business to keep the story lines moving, without doing it too fast and completely leaving the prostitution story behind.

Ideally, the show gets 4-5 seasons which allow them to explore different angles over different seasons, but you just never know how long HBO will give a show. Getting picked up for a second season already hopefully means we'll see multiple future seasons
