Russert was really tough on Hillary. Something that would have been unthinkable just 4 months ago. The Clintons effectively used blackmail, ie 'access' as a tactic to manipulate the media for over a decade. But now that chinks are appearing in the Clintons armor, the media is turning on them like a panther in the dark.

My first thought was, "It's about time." My second thought was how in the world can you trust a media that would allow itself to be so blatantly manipulated? The Clintons, and anyother political figure, needs the media more than the media needs them. Is it more important for the reporters, etc. to be able to rub elbows with the politicos than the actual impartial reporting of the news?

It was Russert who destroyed her campaign by taking up Rush's challenge and asking the question nobody else would: "How do you feel about Spitzer's stand on driver's licenses for illegals?"

Of course, that won't be an issue in this election...

;) ;)

Didn't see the debate. I've placed my chips on Barack to win and McCain to die right after the convention...

:D

Yah know, Russert didn't destroy her with that question, regardless of the source. She destroyed herself with her answer. She flopped around like a boated flounder. I just didn't see that question, in and of itself, as a trap. If you recall, that came up again in a later debate and Obama fumbled it as well, just not as badly as Hillary.

It's going to be a larger issue than many think. The problem is that McCain doesn't have anymore credibility on the issue than either Hillary or Obama.

Ishmael: I did not see the debate, but the Clintons have a lot of problems and the curtain is coming down. They are in a "damned if we do, damned if we don't" corner, and now the media is not interested in coddling them any longer. The news should be impartial and fair, but as we all know, it does not work that way.

Hillary Clinton is clearly trying everything to gain leverage in an attempt to get herself out of the mess she put herself in. She is trying the nice card, the assertive card, the empathic card and nothing seems to work.

I believe she needs to hang it up.

I think she's pretty much toast. Obama landed the heavy blows last night. The Ohio polls show the contest a toss-up and he lead in Texas razor thin. Add to that the fact that the polls have consistently under-polled Obama and things look even darker for her majesty.

But you're right, the press has found that the Clintons just aren't as invincible as they imagined and they're turning on both of them.

Should Obama win the nomination, the press will cover anything the Clintons have to say on page 20 below the fold.

Yep. It is my opinion Barack Obama is successfully exploiting her (and her husband's) mis-steps in her campaign and the media is cheering him on. Bill Clinton is not helping her cause and said some tone-deaf things in trying to speak on her behalf, not to mention the photo released to Drudge by her own people. From the focus group on Hannity and Colmes last night, voters seem to not give a shit about it. I believe Barack Obama has a good chance to land the Democratic nomination.

Locally, the newspapers kiss the asses of groups they support. Plus no media outlet ever bites the hand that feeds it money.

JAMESBJOHNSON: I agree with your statement, and the media has bills to pay and ratings to keep up. Forget fair and balanced and I say this for most media outlets.

Since you actually saw this debate I have a question for you. How big a deal was the NAFTA thing. I see in this mornings news that both Hillary and Obama want to reform this trade pact. Heard Hillary on the radio this morning talking fundamental reform.

Protectionism or campaign for Ohio?

I wonder if John McCain is paying attention to his "friends" in the press...

That’s the problem; she won't stay on message. She is trying too many things, someone or some group has really fumbled her campaign. She's losing ground in Texas and in Ohio, personally, I think she is the most prepared of the two, the most credible to lead day one. I wouldnt vote for her, but thats just me.

Best guess: Poll-driven positions for Ohio.

It's her in a nutshell, though. She's always tried to be all things to all people. So here we see her listening to ALL her advisors, changing tactics daily. I see her as that kind of President. She'll bomb or not bomb depending on who she talked to last.

I don't think you can fully blame her staff. Every book I have on her paints her as a hands-on micromanager who doesn't like to delegate, but sure loves blaming others when she fails...

After all, she was the lawyer that handled the Paula Jones situation and then blamed the vast right-wing conspiracy when her refusal to settle the case blew up in her face.

Yeah, she was anything but all things to the women her husband abused...

She was more like their worst nightmare, which is why I've grown rather fond of Barack.

I was just saying, whoever is in charge of her campaign, they screwed up. I still say she was out in front too long, way too long. Thats not good. People had time to study her, and yes, grow to hate her annoying self

Ditto... re Cap'n fondness for Obama

And on a tangent... the crocodile tears for the poor motorcycle cop who died... knowing how she has been repeatedly verbally abusive to her security details... FUCK OFF already lady:mad:

I agree. I just submit she's always firmly in charge until the blame is being passed around. She decided to run as if she had already won in a country that LOVES the underdawg in almost every situation other than the Superbowl betting in Vegas on the Pats...

;) ;)

Faneros: The current field of candidates are unpalatable, and I will be pinching my nose when at the voting booth. On your point regarding her being out in front too long may be a fair assessment. Conversely for Barack Obama, his enigmatic speeches seem to be working just fine.

It was particularly galling to me to have Marines in Dress Blues serving cocktails at her majesty's parties...

"But Ron [Silver], those are OUR jets now..."

I don't have to hold my nose to vote Libertarian.

Hillary was a Republican in the early 60s. She's been all over the map politically. She sniff's the wind and acts accordingly.

Florence King nailed Hillary back in 1992. Hillary is an overachiever who devotes herself to pleasing gatekeepers.

People dont trust her.
