Peter stopped briefly. "Wait, How is David here? What do you mean, Dave is here?" Greg's reaction told him that everyone on the team viewed it as normal. Peter had gotten a very different story while he was in captivity, however. He didn't belabor the point; from the sound of it, he was going to see for himself in a few minutes.
He heard the worst about David and to think that it was either untrue or just the beginning of the story made his head swim slightly. He didn't even register that Greg was still talking, continuing on about how the world had changed. The tablet was surely just the start of changes to the world around him. He was ready to listen.
The galley was much more empty than he remembered. When the base was fully operational before, there were people in here 24/7 either to eat or relax or hang out with other team members. To see it so empty just made his heart sink. It hammered home how far apart everyone had become and how much they needed to do to restore the luster of the organization. He quit walking around and went to the bar as Greg suggested. There was much to talk about, but that plan was derailed when more people came in through the other entrance.
Peter smiled when he saw another familiar face. "David! My god, you are here..." He said, crossing the room for a handshake and a hug with his old teammate. "But... how are you here?" he asked, looking deep into his eyes, trying to figure out if it was the real David or not.
