Anyone seen DaVinci Code, yet? Any haphazard thoughts before the debates?

What do you think of the Italian protest of Opie, I mean Richie, um, Ron Howards movie?

Haven't seen the movie and I don't really plan to until it comes out on DVD. I read the book just in case we might go see it...but reading the book changed my mind about wanting to see it.

I'm afraid my pagan roots are showing.

The critics seem mostly to hate it, so it must be worth seeing as a movie.
True, it's a load of bollocks, but so was Indiana Jones.

The protests are worldwide against this movie, but I'm determined to make my own judgements on it, on my own terms.

It's deeply respectful and loving of the Church. Maybe that's why I don't like it so much :)

The fact that those in the Church don't see it as deeply respectful and loving is beyond me.

If anything in this movie is considered "the biggest secret ever kept" it's because they believe it would have a huge effect on everyone hearing it. Meh. Not really.

The movie was ok. I can understand why there is much talk about it. I liked the idea of symbolism, especially the Goddess theme being such a powerful theme throughout.

Yet, I have my reserves... In my opinion it's a "fairytail" like most organised religions.

The best part of the movie for me? The music. Extremely powerful. I went out and got the soundtrack immediately.

The Greek Orthodox Church is pissed, that's all I know for sure.

Who was the composer? Horner?

All opinions are valid, of course. The movie was entertaining enough - its a Ron Howard film, so how can it not be amusing? It is hardly worthy of protests like "It's an offence to Jesus" or "It insults my religion," though. I did not read Dan Brown (heard he is a shit writer) but did pick up other books and doco's. The movie is layman on theory from the beginning of semiotics to the Hollywood end, and I am sure Martin Scorcese did much more christian cultural damage with "The Last Temptation of Christ."

In the end, a view and an opinion, nothing more than that. :D

I think for me the most insulting idea is that any of this stuff is new. This was my second attempt at reading the book. The first one had me putting it down by the third chapter. Got sick of all the innocent gasping.

What's an inquision?
"refers broadly to a number of historical movements orchestrated by the Pope and aimed at securing Papal religious and financial authority in Europe through the conversion, and sometimes persecution, of alleged heretics." Wikipedia

But, I use the definition in my own satirical, 21st century way.

Sorry, Charley, but my guess is that kendo was questioning the spelling. In the UK at least, it is "inquisition", not "inquision"

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inquisition

I fell asleep. Is that an opinion?

Sure :D Apart from the screaming chinese chick beside me that day? A sleeper would have been welcome. :catroar:

Haven't seen it, waiting for DVD. (Saving my money for X-men). It is only a movie, right? I mean, not a documentary. The Last Temptation of Christ, Dogma, they were also movies, but people are getting bent out of shape because they wonder if some of us believe everything we read, see, or hear. On second thought, where's my placard?

It was an OK movie, pretty faithful to the book.

The local diocese said seeing the movie would be a mortal sin. I risked my soul, and if I'm going to hell for it, it should have been better. In that regard, I feel kind of ripped off.
