The moon rises slowly over the hills and valleys of Nirandia. Shadows from the Thornberry trees reach out, touching the darkness, piercing the night with a forboding evil presence. The sunlight is gone, and now is the time for unearthly beings to walk the earth. Your horse is weary, your dress soiled from miles of traveling, but still you trudge on through the impending darkness hoping to find some harbor from the night.
Clip, caclop, clip, caclop caclip!
Your horse stops suddenly nearly throwing you from the saddle. Fear flashes across your eyes, fear of the unknown, fear of something terrible lurking just out of the light. You knew it, you could feel it, and your trusty steed felt it as well. Just as suddenly as your horse had stopped, he bolts into the darkness, not knowing what is after the two of you, but knowing that you must escape. Looking back you can see glowing red eyes outlined in green, small at first, but then growing larger and larger, until you could swear that you could feel the breath of the beast on the nape of your neck. You spur the horse onwards, faster and faster, rounding the bend and seeing an abandoned castle not two-hundred yards away.
Determined to keep your life for at least one more night, you soar over the trails, your horse neighing and snorting, crossing over the small bridge that leads to the castle door. Your horse stops suddenly and rears up on its hind legs, throwing you to the soft earth below, and then running back across the bridge. Your ears strain through the dark listening for the horse's hoofs to clip clop across the bridge, but only moments after his hooves struck the rickety old wood, a shrieking monstrous howl split the silence of the night. The hooves were silenced. Scrambling to make it to the front door, thank God it opens immediately and you close it just in time to hear the beast laughing between gnashing bites..........
It is dark inside and has a musty smell. You can barely see around for your eyes have not yet become accustomed to the darkness. Stumbling over a small table and some brass trinkets, you fall to your knees and begin to sob. Who would have known that running away from that wedding would lead you here? Miles away, in the dark, with no way home, all alone.....alone....
"Who goes there?" My voice interrupts your sobbing and you sit perfectly still, fear once again overwhelms you and you are unable to speak.
"I say again, who goes there? friend or foe?" Fire engulfs a torch and illuminates the beautiful interior of the castle. Silk screens, enormous paintings, gold, silver and exotic jewels the likes of which no mortal has ever seen.
You slowly rise to your feet and raise your head, your green eyes flickering in the torchlight. Your mouth softly opens, your lips cracked and pained from your journey as you slowly say.....
OOC: Always had a medieval/fantasy fantasy, just wanted to see if anyone would be interested. 23M here. Let me know what you think!
