The coveted green E

That is far too much work just to boost my scores or downplay those of others. If I remove the cookies from Lit, then I remove them from everything else, too. No way, I'm too lazy to have to re-log in to all my sites every time I go there.

Yeah, I just don't care enough. Heck, I haven't submitted a story in a very long time.

I think the implausibility and goofiness of the story did it. Whatever the reason, the benefit is that it has had more views and votes in a few days than my most viewed story has had over the past several months.

Imagine my surprise this morning when my latest submission appeared in the New category with the coveted green E (my first! -- thank you, editor). Then, looking at the first votes in the 4.80s and a really positive comment, I thought: I've finally hit on a winning formula. Not being as self-assured as some writers on Lit, I checked the numbers throughout the day (perhaps a little obsessively) and noticed a steady downtrend to the 4.30s. What the hell? I thought. Have the trolls conspired to piss on my cornflakes? Is this a common phenomenon?

Congratulations! I enjoyed your story "Lamb" and gave you a bit of positive feedback. I had a similar experience when my story received an E. Keep up the good work!

I'm curious. Is a five rating actually possible? If possible, is it sustainable?

My sole E I got on the very first story I submitted here - it didn't get much attention nevertheless, presumably because it was in the humor/satire category. I think it got the H after more than a year, as it was stuck on 9 votes for ages.

It was for a time - until the stories appeared at the pole positions of the toplists of the old format - where they then became prime targets for trolls. Don't know if that has changed since they introduced the new format.

It still is. I actually have 16 items with scores of 5.00 right now. Unfortunately, they are all in the poetry division. For one thing, the trolls don't go there as often and, for another thing, all of them have fewer than ten votes and don't appear on the radar screen. I think of nyself as being a writer of smutty stories, but I also write poems on the site, and some of them are pretty good, for doggerel at least.

I have had stories with scores of 5.00 also but, after they had their tenth vote and the appeared and they got to the top of the list, somebody came along and knocked them off. :( In all honesty, sometimes it was an honest vote of 4.00, but it was frequently a malicious one bomb.

And on the converse of the voting coin, I submitted a story to LW just to draw in trolls, and it did. My scores were low and the comments were as delightfully nasty as anticipated. However, ever since it fell off the New list, the score has been climbing and I've received only good feedback on it.

Oh, and when I put in a troll-bomb just for fun, I lost a lot of points on my other stories and at least 2 H's. Trolls went sniping out of spite.

I don't put much faith the numbers.

Having been there, I feel ya.

Blame trolls for your sucky stories, they have big shoulders.

JBJ - Not quite..the issue I'm referring to is if you bait trolls with a story they'll drag down the rest of your stuff just because.

here are the figures owlwhisper published in his famous story some time ago:

owlwhisper_literoticanumbers_07.gif

From LITEROTICA NUMBERS by owlwhisper:A question that can be better addressed is: Do the criteria that editors use to award the EC match the criteria used by Literotica readers to determine their votes? If editors and readers use the same criteria, we should expect almost all ECs to also be voted Hot. This turns out not to be the case, as shown in the table's third column. Summing across all the categories, only 46% of ECs were also Hot.

The Literotica FAQ suggests that ECs are awarded only on the basis of personal likes. Given the fact that less than half of all ECs are also Hot, it's evident that editors' personal likes differ somewhat from those of readers. Therefore if you're aiming to capture one of these awards for yourself, you should read many past winners to discern what qualities the editors favor.
