I LOVED "The Fellowship of The Ring," but, this chapter was SO CONFUSING to me. Could someone help summorize this chapter for the simple-minded? There was just TOO many things to explain in this chapter, that I just didn't get it.

I don't ahve my books here at work, but if you can give me until tonight, I'll give you the full scoop.

Though, off the top of my head, that chapter gives you the brief history of the Ring, from its origin to its possession by Frodo.

Tolkien was most proud of that chapter, and it was one of the parts of the book he wrote first.

Unless someone jumps in first, I"ll be along later tonight and will give you the Jazzman's Notes version of things. :)

Or, alternately, PM me and I'd be glad to help.

there was a fellowship of the ring ... um all 9 of them ?

and at the end theres not :)

i dont want to say anymore because it will spoil the film for those who havent read the book

if it's the chapter I thinking of.....
they are told they 9 will be the representitives of the good races in middle earth and they must distroy the ring.
Gimli of the dwarfs
Legolos of the elves
Boromir of the humans
Gandolf of the vailar (or is he a mayar? i mix those two up)
strider well he wasn't to represent a race he was representing somthing else (i don't spoil it)
sam of the hobbits cause they weren't counting frodo he was only the ring barrer
merry and pippin wern't even going to go they were told to stay behind but eather Elrond or Gandolf (i forget which) said they were needed (again i won't spoil) and replaced two elfs that were going to go in their place.

that's basicly the important part you need to know from that chapter

Elrond was agaisnt there going....Gandalf convinces him to let them go...

They are right, the chapter focuses mainly on the history of the ring, how it came into being, and where the hells it's been all this time. It also gives us an update on whats been happening with the different races and where gandalf has been. The story of everyones favorite slinker/stinker is also revealed at that time I believe.
