Dragon-con. The world's largest fantasy/science fiction convention, held annually on Labor Day weekend. The event takes place from September 4th to the 7th.

Dragon Con (previously Dragon*Con and sometimes DragonCon) is a North America multigenre convention, founded in 1987, which takes place once each year in Atlanta, Georgia.

The convention draws attendance of over 63,000, features hundreds of guests, encompasses five hotels in the Peachtree Center neighborhood of downtown Atlanta near Centennial Olympic Park, and runs thousands of hours of programming for fans of science fiction, fantasy, comic books, and other elements of fan culture. It is operated by a private for-profit corporation, with the help of a 1,500-member volunteer staff.

On this day, a large following of fans would convene in downtown Atlanta to observe the three-day event, donning disguises of their favorite fictional characters in a practice known as cosplaying. It was a little after 1 in the afternoon of the first official day of the event, a decent crowd had flocked into the city scene the nights before, and many more were expected to attend this years convention, breaking last years 64k benchmark.

Although he resided in the metro area since enrolling into the local University, and he was no stranger to the city and its quirks, nothing could quite prepare him for the outlandish grandeur of Dragoncon. It was like stepping into a live-action comic book. Derek tried to keep an even composure about himself as he waded through the streets amidst the parade of iconic personages, a pack of stormtroopers passing on by before he could get to his desired vantage, he'd been helming a portable camera all the while, getting shots of the happenings as it unfolded in real-time on the streets, filming this week's dragoncon event, was an assignment but anytime he could find s way to integrate his personal interests into his professional didn't feel like much work anyway. This way, he could have some fun and put his work out there. One stone.

He'd been experimenting with some interesting angles when a certain interest caught the focus of lens while filming inside the lobby of the Westin in Peachtree street.

*DING*

The elevator chimed its arrival to the hotel lobby and Jessica (or rather "Belle" as she might be recognized by a very few members of the cosplay community over the next couple days) stepped out. This was the moment where a majestic fanfare always played in her mind, but never seemed to manifest in reality -- a movie score to give justice to the hand-sewn costume she wore. Kara Zor-El. Supergirl!

It looked like the hotel was starting to pick up life as she wasn't the only costumed hero already congregating in the lobby. Her fingers fidgeted slightly with a sleeve that already had a stitch coming loose -- the result of a last minute rush to add the trim. It was subtle and she doubted anyone would notice.

She glanced across the room to see if she recognized anyone, but no luck. Not that that was too surprising, it was early after all.

((OOC: I should probably mention I've never been to one of these big conventions, so bear with me if I make a mistake or don't know what's going on. :) ))
