I was going through the entry gates at the Silverdome, after having crossed over the crosswalk and navigated half the parking lot at the Silverdome, when I was stricken with the sudden, shocking, and depressing realization that I no longer possessed my ticket into the game! I couldnt believe it! I had driven two hours to get there, and I somehow either lost, or got my ticket stolen, I don't know which, but I did not have it. I checked in at the Will Call window near the entrance and told of my predicament and they didn't seem too sympathetic, and sent me to the main office. On my way into the main office, I passed by a gentleman with his two children on their way into the game, and he asked my friend and I if we needed a ticket. My friend told him that I did and called me back (I hadn't heard what the man said in passing by him). He gave me the ticket into the game, at no cost! I offered to give him what money I had and he refused it, just said Merry Christmas and he and his children were off. I feel bad I did not ask this man his name, but I thanked him profusely for bailing me out of a bad situation. I was pretty sure I was not going to be given admission into the game, the policy is they are not responsible for lost or stolen tickets. Anyway, I thought this was the coolest thing, and just wanted to let everyone know about it. Suddenly, I have a bit more of an appreciation for the holidays :)

Wow

That is awesome!! Now you can pass the favor on to someone else to give them the spirit.

Check for your ticket is #'s 1, 7, and 15 on my list of things to do before a race now.

Christmas spirit is a wonderful thing. You should probably thank the Mother who managed to get out of attending for the ticket.

Yes, but you still have poor taste in football teams.

Because I support the team from my home state? The team that is closes to me geographically, and that I grew up watching every sunday? No, I understand that Detroit is a lousy football team right now, and in the past have been nothing better than mediocre. But, I have been and always will be a Lions fan. If you don't like them, that is your choice, and you are entitled to it, but, I choose to remain loyal to the team that I have cheered for all my life.

maybe that's why they won today....oh well to little to late. Still a nice gesture :)

Thats a great story. Events like the one you mention catch you off guard and you'll remember it forever because................

DETROIT WON!

(Over the malcontent Vikings no less)

I did, like three times on the crosswalk and it was there, but when I got to the gates, it was gone!

Power of One, I just now realized you are from MN...sorry, I didn't mean to go off like I did, I thought you were trying to flame me. My apologies.

~laughing~ Lighten up! I am not into football. It was a joke. This is the most serious board I have ever seen. Or is it just striking a nerve when talking about football? Here you go, have a warm beer a cold hot dog and elevator shoes to see over the crowd. Yes, I did go to a game once. Never could find out who had the ball and the warm beer and cold dog made me sick. But what I could see of it turned me on. There is something about a guy's ass in a football uniform. YUMMY!!!

No apology needed. What does being from MN have to do with anything? I can understand statement about "flaming". So much of that goes on here that the board should be on fire. I am not into flaming, sorry. I will try harder.

I intend to, I just hope I am given an opportunity to come through for someone in need of a random act of kindness.

We beat the Vikings :D

That's a pretty cool story, STP. I could only imagine the look on your face if you couldn't have gotten into the game.
It's a good to know there's still nice people out there with the holiday spirit. Congratulations on the WIN today.

I woulda remembered it anyway, but the Lions winning just made it that much more memorable. I would have beat myself silly knowing that I had missed the first win of the year, during such a lousy season. It could turn out to be the only win, who knows? Thank god for that kind man! I didn't miss it!

STP, that is awesome. I love the human spirit. A friend of mine still talks about, years later, a time she went to lunch with her sister and small nephew. When they wanted to pay the bill, the waitress informed them that the people in the booth next to them paid their bill and said they enjoyed so much seeing the small child that it was their pleasure.

People are wonderful.

I couldn't agree more

Don't let that Fairweather Johnson get to you. Your loyalty is admirable.

~Laughing~ Do you only read part of a thread? Fairweather Johnson huh? You can call me Anne, you can call me goddess, you can call me candy cane but don't call me Johnson. :D Another person that needs either a serious fucking or learning to see when a post is not serious as explained in following posts. Lighten up!!

You, sir, are a true fan.

Human Spirit

I want to share something that happened when i was 16 yo (OMG i just realized that was 20 yrs ago!). Football season was over and my mother made me get a job at a local department store...pretty much my first real life job. One evening right before christmas (actually Dec. 23) the store was packed...people everywhere, this guy comes in looking very distressed and running around. So i ask if i can help him. He tells me he is on his first date with this girl...and when buying movie tickets (next door) he realizes he is $1 short (pretty smart on a first date huh?). He wants to cash a check. At that time, to write a check you had to get customer service to approve it and i show him where to go. When we get there, it is friggin covered up...people with toys to return...people getting shit out of layaway...anyhow you get the picture. Well, i could tell he was freakin out...and it was gonna be like an hour for him to cash a check...so i pulled out my wallet, said "Here go see your movie with your date". He couldnt believe it. He asked over and over again if i was for real ...I said "sure take the dollar and go"..he swore he would come back and repay me. I said "fine no problem". The next day when i got to work, there was a piece of paper all stapled up with my name on it. It was a note from the guy and a $5 bill. He had written a pretty long letter but the gist of it was ...I had restored his faith in human nature..that up until that point he felt it was a dog eat dog world..but my giving him a buck and trusting him to give it back changed his outlook on people. Honestly, i've never forgotten it. It made me feel like the greatest guy on earth. I told my father what had happened ( a great christian man) and he was so proud of me (i know its corny, but true) and he felt like a lot of what he was teaching me was sinking in. This probably would have sank to the bottom of my memory heap...except for one thing. The day after christmas my father had a massive stroke getting ready for work. I held his hand on the bedroom floor and promised him it would be ok...but it wasnt..he slipped away while his 16 yo son looked into his eyes. I dont know why...but i always got comfort knowing he was proud of me for giving that guy a dollar. It has stuck in my mind for 20yrs. You never know when doing the right thing..or helping another will actually come back to you. I carried that guys note in my wallet for years...

Luck was with you stp... guess it just goes to show not everyone in this world is an asshole

Threads like this can certainly restore ones faith in humanity! Thanks for sharing your story STP! *smile*... Random acts of kindness. I do hope more of us can remember this when running about during the busy Holiday Season!!

Beautiful story Southern37... A *hug* for you... I'm still wiping the tears from my eyes!
