I have mostly redwood, douglas fir, 7 oaks that are suitable to turn and madrone which is a bear but manageable to use if you dry it for 3 years.

I have a tree that had a wheel from the loggers back in the 30's left leaning against a tree. All that left it the hoop and since the tree is now about 42" DBH I have to keep moving the hoop up so it doesn't get stuck.

That's my problem I oversee the restoration of 640 acres of poorly cut timber. There are stacks of wood laying around So I and very uncomfortable cutting down some monster DF that's 8 feet DBH

The bulldozer cut half of the roots and it's along the road.
As they say it's better to take it down then have it fall down.
Believe me, I'll shed a tear when I do this.

This last bunch of butchers when through and only selected prime trees. When you leave only the weak and deformed what do you think the next generation will be like? The slash was supposed to be cleaned up and the place naturalized.
They said that the lumber prices were down so they could afford to finish the job.

i've got black walnut, but nothing larger than 24" diameter. one cherry tree and it's not coming down.

I had to cut a maple down to make room for a shop for myself. I really hated to do that. my yard is totally shaded in summer.
There are still 6 left so its not real bad. My new neighbor is talking of cutting all his )4 in the back yard, and 2 in the front) fully grown maples down because they are dead. All the leaves fell off them this fall. I said, why did you buy the place to just cut all the trees down. Why didn't you buy a place with no trees. He is a fucking idiot

If you're looking for profits that's true. If you're looking for beauty, enjoy them while you can.

Whats DBH?

DBH=Diametre at Breast Height. Kind of a standard. Some trees really flare out at the base, some have multiple stems & etc.

you can harvest them after they die, oak ain't gonna rot in a week
no need to hurry them

Only trees know for sure.

It's not very accurate. You can't run the Champion tree program that way. So this is just a general way of guesstimating.

I've only worked with one of those rigs once, in White Plains, setting this external stair tower between a new building and an old building, basically in an alleyway. Each section was 2 60-foot columns with three of the cross beams already welded in, they had to be tripped right there without smashing the new curtain wall or anything. We were climbing in and out of the old building, which was some kind of law office....two connectors with tons of clinking tools barging in "uh, we need to get out the window and cut that column loose...."

my dad was an instrument man with the ironworkers
he would go into the office towers across the street with his transit to plumb the building. 60 storey stuff
he sure met a pile of secretaries

I snapped that pic yesterday, we shut down cause of the storm, thats why it looks dead there

them tower cranes aren't real fast, but they sure can reach
