You left an asshole on your minor defect. The heat has to be eased off slowly, allowing the contamination to burn off leaving only pure metal goodness.

Your aluminum showed a certain amount of "lets run down there and fuck a cow" attitude. Just weld around the corner. There is no stop sign there.

And I would prefer to see a little more build up on each bead. The filler rod is not coming out of your paycheck. Don't be stingy.

One of my best friends is a boilermaker. He told me he'd get me in, if I wanted to spend 4 years learning how to do TIG in enclosed spaces.

Boilermakers have one of the best pensions in construction around these parts. The conditions they work in leave a little to be desired.

Amen. All the boilermakers around here wait for an outage and then do 22 hour days (or whatever) while the plant is down. Sure the cash is good, but I am not willing to give myself up to the job to that extent anymore.

It's a bit boring, but some interior shots. One of my jobs, but none of my work. This is all done in a place where materials are brought in by boat or aircraft. There are no roads, no supply stores, and nothing to do on Saturday night but be ready to work on Sunday morning. The current value of one of these structures is about $700/SF.
