The Construction Thread

Question for the crowd.

I always loved my job (I can’t tell you how much I miss it) It’s one of those jobs that only those who love it stay in it. Those who don’t like it quit and get a job they don’t like in a climate controlled atmosphere where it’s safe and warm.

Anyway, I always worked in small towns and as much as I loved the work I always hared the way it changed the place I had chosen to live into somewhere I no longer wanted to be.

Anybody else experience that feeling?

The big student apartment complexes that has been build all over my town these past couple of years, has certainly changed it. But not in a bad way per ce. the complexes has been pretty isolated from the rest of the city.

I do some work in small towns. Generally, on projects that are as large (or close to it) as the town has ever seen. The town makes a good living off the project and when it's complete, there is a facility that at least every family has contributed labor to and earned a buck from. It gives the the community a sense of ownership. At least, for a while.

These places are probably a bit smaller than most people think of small towns. They are generally not connected by road to anyplace. Airtaxi's are the normal transport mode except in spring, when the runway is too soft for the Cessna. Snowmachines and 4-wheelers are the norm. Boardwalks are used for pedestrian traffic. People live a 'subsistance' lifestyle. It all sounds romantic to some, but only the tough will survive a year in one of these places. Frankly, as much as I like visiting my friends out in the bush, I don't prefer to live there.

Minimum soldering, no copper tubing. Flexible and freeze proof Pex lines. And a pretty good indicator of your own body mass, since if you can't slide a 3/4 inch crimp ring on any of your fingers. it's time for a fucking diet.

If I was building box stores in virgin farmland, I would definitely feel that way. That's one of the best things about working in the big city. We're just building buildings where other buildings used to be, or repairing pre-existing infrastructure.

The movie was not made in Barrow. I saw only the previews and there were no natives. We'll see about the photos.

yes, tomorrow is the day to glue the drain for the tub, and drop the tub to the floor

then the wiring of the tub, well just a little gfi plug for the motor

then when all that is done.


sub floor and tile
then rip out the old shower and plumb the wall for the washer dryer set-up
then finish the floor, put back in the radiator and hopefully paint
:)

i will be happy

This is what I want to know as well. What kind of tub it is.

And I assume you do have all the right pex tools to do this, because regardless of what you've been told. You cant crimp a ring with a pair of vice grips.

no we didn't use vice grips, we spent the $$$ on the tool

it is really easy, the BF does it all
i watch and golf clap him and tell him he is doing a really good job

he is playing the plumber, but thankfully without the asscrack
and it only costs me blowjobs to pay him
