The Construction Thread

It says, "Change Order"

I analyze construction claims and figure out how slow you bastards work when its cold out or how inefficient it is if the electricians have to work near the plumbers.

I'm a fucking engineer......work?.....LOL

How about bidding on government contracts? Surely one has to be licensed, insured and bonded to get govt' work? I'm not sure where you live in Alaska so I'm not sure how much govt' work is available or how far afield your willing to travel.

Yeah, you have to be licensed, insured & bonded for federal jobs. We've done a little government work. The certified payroll is a pain in the ass.

I once used one to set a porta pot on top of a huge stack of drywall - with the construction foreman still in it. All in good fun we were celebrating the finish of stage one of the project.

I once used one to pile five pallets of 8x4 slabs round the car of some idiot that parked across a driveway. Then we fucked off home. It was still there the next day.

What part isn't true?

You mean it cost more than a few beers, right?

Is it my fault your missis felt the need to ply me with vodka? I think not. Poor working bloke on holiday, led astray by people taking advantage of my trusting nature.

If it wasn't for me you would never have met MWF and found true love.

You owe me.

At least you know you're going to get paid.

I know some contractors who take bids low and make out heavily on the change orders. They seem to thrive on government work.

They wont do that for long......word get's around fast.

Yeah. In 120 days. Maybe.

Thats what pisses me off about commercial work. Im not used to being in the banking industry and issuing interest free 60 to 90 day loans.

But Im in it, and do all the time.

Talk to the fucking engineer. The plans say the duct goes down through the middle of the hallway.

*shows plans*
*points out hallway*
*smirks*

Everyone in this thread, that has been asked to fix stuff, while on vacation, meeting for dinner, or in other "un-planned" ways. Raise your hands and say Aye.

AYE!
This Christmas, in New Jersey, meeting family that I haven't seen in years. Sure enough, under the kitchen sink, fixing a plumbing problem.

:)

I like to ask the electricians if they can fix my toaster.

They seem to still be in business after 30-40 years.........I imagine it'll catch up to them sometime.

I've known a few. They didn't last long. A lot of site contractors try it...... they'll only try it on me once.

Luckily the type of construction/project managing I'm in now, we use a lot of the same subs no matter what state I'm working in. So I can avoid a lot of that crap.

Uh, no. When you do your monthly billing. Government pays on time every time. I was only talking about government work. It can be ages when dealing with anyone else. Sometimes never. Keep your ear to the ground on whom are bad risks.
