The closing phrase in emails 'Best Regards'

I'm seeing a lot of opening lines like 'Hey, <customer>', even from major banks.

Good afternoon Listers,

This is about professional emails.

I always include a greeting and a closing. Many reasons.

One, my grandmother’s hand, I'm fairly convinced, will sprout from the grave and whack me upside the head if I do not start a communique with a greeting.

Two, my old supervisor never used greetings. It felt like every single email was a command. An order. A judgment, even.

“You have not signed up for the holiday potluck yet.” —> yeah?! Fuck you too!

And greetings aren’t so different from closings. They’re mostly a formality. Unnecessary to many, in today’s day and age, but I like to brighten someone’s day with a “good morning, so-and-so.”

Similarly, I like to lessen the blow of a crap request email with a “Thanks for all that you do,” as a final sentence. It’s the least I can do.

Hopefully this helps.

Best,

(And dear lord) please - include a phone number here

Ya' know people even get pissed if you reply to their expression gratitude with 'No problem!'?

And people wonder why I hate people.

Yeah - I had an argument with a good friend once over this.

Like, apologies if my culturally ingrained politeness wasted nineteen seconds of your day?

Seriously? Yeah, she was serious.

I never use Best Regards. Nor have I ever seen it used.

I generally adapt what I use depending on who I am emailing or how cunty I am feeling. 😂

It depends on how long between emails with the recipient and how frequently we communicate in any given day. It seems silly to draft a semi-formal email to conduct what is essentially an electronic conversation that will likely span the course of a day.
That being said, "Regards" is how I end work emails where I'm intending to include respect for our work together.

private emails are typically less formal. While the language may shift, the general tone tends to be warm and affectionate - somewhere along the lines of "can't wait to taste you" or "my thighs still hurt"..

Team (insert number)

Patient so and so. Blah blah blah. Please make a visit or call to check in today.

Have a fantastic (insert day o the week)
Cheers,
Mm
Ps call me if you need me

^^^ 'Keep it up'.

(After a message congratulating someone doing a good job.)

Do you use it? If so, what is your original country (you don't have to answer that of course.)

To me, when I see an email closed with the phrase 'Best Regards', it's a signal that the sender is not from North America.

I'm not saying it's a giant red flag, but ......

Wow! Is it a red flag to not be from the US?
Best Regards..... from the UK
