The Chosen

"Lucy! Wait dammit!" Gabriel yelled as his charge headed out the door.

"That girl, in the courtyard today- I think she's a chosen as well. I felt something weird when I was around her..."

Sunlight trickled into the room as he cracked the door open. The clouds were gone and the deadly light was already streaming down from the sky. Gabriel's boots skidded across the floor as he screeched to a halt.

"The storm's passed..."

Lucy disappeared out the door, shutting it behind her. Gabriel cursed loudly, moving quickly to try and throw on his heavy coat. What the hell was she thinking? Didn't they just get done talking about keeping your guard up?

"God damn girl's got a head fulla stone!" He fumbled with the extra layers, careful so that not an inch of his skin was exposed. "Runnin out the door wit' no weapon, no idea whats goin on"

Pulling the hat over his head, Gabriel cracked the door open slightly, being greeted by an intense flash from the glowing sun. Wincing from the light and shielding his eyes with the back of his hand he scanned the alleyway for Lucy.

Lucy hadn't expected her to be that blunt with it. Well, that made things a helluva lot easier.
"This guy... The one who told you all of this. Would you be able to remember him if you saw him again?," She asked softly, coming to a stop in their walking. "As for that fight you saw... Better get used to it. You're going to see a lot more than that."
She glanced to her, then guestured for them to turn around. She needed Gabriel.... She wasn't sure how to go about telling her all this without him. "C'mon. I know someone who'd be able to help you out.. and maybe help us find that guy again. He may have spooked you, but he's actually trying to help you."

His eyes finally adjusting to the light, Gabriel caught Lucy and her friend out of the corner of his vision. Who the hell was- Didn't matter. Whoever fired those shots would be hot on their trail before too long.

Motioning for them to hurry, Gabriel slipped back into the apartment, stripping off the thick gloves on his hands. There wasn't much time to spare. Letting his fangs grow, his used the razor sharp tip to open a small wound on his thumb. Blood oozed freely from the cut, trickling down to coat his palm in sticky red.

Mumbling a few words under his breath, he slammed his palm against the door frame, tracing a streak of blood all around the door. As Lucy and her friend made their way towards the enterance, Gabriel began chanting a phrase in an archaic sounding language.

The blood surrounding the door began to pulse and take on a faint red glow, ancient runic symbols and glyphs appearing along the wooden frame.

"Quick like a bunny now Luce. inside double time" he called to her in an urgent tone.

"Gabe, what-?"
Lucy didn't have much of a chance to question him on it as he herded them both into his apartment, trying to keep herself calmed down to keep Emily from panicking. "That- ah... is Gabriel. He should be able to help us out..," She explained, glancing from Emily to Gabe, though she still had a rather confused look on her own face. She couldn't even begin to imagine what Emily must've been thinking....

Her eyes widened as she saw the blood on his hand when he came inside. "Gabe?," she asked softly, looking up at him.

Draken sensed, more than heard, the words of ancient magic being spoken. He turned in the direction he sensed them coming from an old building with blacked-over windows. He himself hadn't used magic in a long time, having come to rely on the firearms invented by the humans, though he did possess a few old enchanted swords, and he had learned how to enchant the firearms he possessed as well. He raised an eyebrow, then walked slowly away from the college, and over to the safehouse door, knocking on it gently.

"I'll explain in a second luv" He slammed the door shut, throwing the multiple deadbolts before pressing his blood soaked palm against the middle of the door.

"SEAL!" He announced in a commanding voice. The blood on the door flashed a searing red-orange, casuing the glyphs to stand out like bright neon signs. The entire door seemed to take on a red haze, as if a bloody mist were surrounding it, before finally dispersing into nothing.

Taking a step back from the door, Gabriel flexed his palm, healing the small wound with a thought. Wiping the blood on the overcoat before stripping the heavy garment back off, he turned to his Charge and her new friend. His eyes were grim and dead set as he closed the distance to Lucy. Gripping one of her small hands in his own, he stared in her eyes, his voice low and serious.

"You hear gunshots the day you get a letter sayin yer bloody marked and ye run outside into the sun without even a sharp stick to protect ya?" There was almost a crack in the rythmic Irish accent, that had been too close. "Ye 'ave to be more careful Luce"

Releasing her hand he stepped back. He was concerned, and angry that he couldn't go out and check things out for himself. No, that wasn't it. He was angry that she had gone somewhere he couldn't follow. If the Holy Brother had been out there...

"The Blood Seal will keep this door closed but good. No one can pass the threshold without invitation. Hopefully it'll hold until nightfall."

Dropping down on the couch, Gabriel exhaled loudly. It took energy to perform Blood magic, and he hadn't even fed today.

Then he heard the knocking...

"This guy... The one who told you all of this. Would you be able to remember him if you saw him again?,"

"Sure.. I mean how many guys have purposely knocked on my door?"

The guy in the hat from earlier motioned them inside a building and she was quickly dragged inside. He then placed his bloodied palm on the door and she swore she heard some sort of chanting.

"Guys what the heck is going on? Who's he? Why're we in here? What just happened?"

Then there was a knock on the door..

"Would someone please explain?"

Gabriel backed up from the door, his gaze locked on the seal. Speaking in a low voice, Gabriel addressed the newcomer at the door.

"I help you?" He was getting a strange feeling from the other side of the Blood Seal. The man felt like a vampire, but there was something very, very unusual about him. And he was out in daylight, it wasn't possible he was a vampire. And Gabriel didn't much like the idea of yet another new guest in his home.

Draken looked around, to make sure no one was around, and then spoke in an older dialect of vampiric. "What are the Chosen? This has been bugging me since I saw it in one of my old books. It might have something to do with the research my company has been running into the origin of the Wamphyri. Also, you must be very young if you are worried about the Brotherhood."

"i-I'm sorry, Gabe. I guess I didn't think..."

Lucy glanced over her shoulder to Emily, then back to Gabriel. "I was just following orders. Become the new distraction for other Chosen."

She turned around, going to sit next to Emily and letting out a hard sigh. "Gabriel is my guardian. He's... like the guy who was in your dorm room." She paused, letting that sink in for her. "Gabe's a vampire. That guy who was talking to you in the alley, and I'm betting the one who started the fight outside your room, are from a group called the Holy Brotherhood. They... kill vampires."

She looked to Gabe a moment, then back to Emily. She had been given years to learn all this stuff- and she was trying to explain it all in just a few minutes! "The guy who told you that you were special- He's right. You and I are very unique... We have vampire blood inside us. That's why you can do what you do at night. Its in your nature."

Gabriel cocked an eyebrow and stepped closer to the door. This warrented a further examination. "Aye, truth is I can't quite remember how old I am these days. The more years go by, the less it seems to matter."

Leaning his back against the wall next to the door, he called out again in the same vampiric tongue, "It's been almost 70 years since I've had a conversation in the Bloodtongue so you'll forgive me if I'm a bit rusty. But I wouldn't count out the Brotherhood, no matter how old you are"

Spinning around to face the door, he smiled and dropped the ancient vampiric, "Never heard of the 'Chosen' before though, we're all just folk here."

"Now piss off"

Turning back to the girls, Gabriel sighed. "Now where were we girls"

Draken raised an eyebrow, then shook his head. He could probably break down the door, even with the seal, but that wouldn't get him anywhere. Instead, he spoke once more, this time in English with a definite oldworld accent. "A great man once said No Man Is An Island. If these Brotherhood cultists aren't stopped, it may very well overthrow the balance of power on this world. Many people will die, human and Wamphyri alike. Even the Nephilim and Seraphim will suffer."

OOC: Guys I have to stop prematurely.. I will be back in about an hour. Someone else needs to use it and he's getting rather pissy, but I will definately be back as soon as I can within another hour or so.. See ya!

Lucy glanced to Gabe as the man outside called out. This time, she understood him well... and recognized the voice. "Mister Draken?"
She stood up, going to peek out the small area of the window that wasn't blacked out, seeing the silver haired man standing against the door, then turned back to Gabe. "Its.. the guy from the college this afternoon. He's been doing research on- something.. with some of the students he's sending there." She paused, frowning as she peeked back out. "He's not brotherhood... but he's also able to wear that cross. I'm... not sure what to make of him.... but I'm pretty sure he's figured myself and Emily out, and we're still kicking. Can't be all that bad then."

Gabriel kept his voice low as he replied to Lucy, "Aye, he speaks the Bloodtongue but he's standin in sunlight and carries a cross. He's a vampire like I've never seen"

Backing away from the door, Gabriel did a quick check of the Blood Seal to double check his work. He was good with seals but safe was always better then sorry.

"Perhaps he's not with the Brother'ood but I don't much like lettin him in anyway. 'Sides if he's one of ours he knows better then trying to come in after a seal's been put up"

Dropping down onto the couch, Gabriel scratched the nape of his neck and groaned. Too much exertion for this time of day. It just wasn't civilized.

Lucy frowned, watching him as he checked the door. He was doubting himself... which meant he was nervous. She rarely saw him get nervous. "Please just stay still, Gabe...," She asked him softly, glancing to Emily before heading to his kitchen. "You've done enough today for me."

She opened his fridge, taking out one of the blood bags he stashed in the back and emptied it into a glass for him. She was leery of Emily freaking out about it, so she hunted around for something to disguise it with... Finding his whiskey in the top of the cabinet. She gave a laugh, pouring a little into the glass. Hey, if he could drain a drunkard, he could handle a little spiked blood...

She brought it out to him, giving him a soft smile as she handed it to him. "Here. Look like you could use it."

"Here. Look like you could use it."

Gabriel drink greedily from the offered cup, letting the sweet, crimson flow down his throat. A sudden electric surge went through every muscle in his body and every single nerve sparked at the same time. Stretching his arms upward, he downed the remaining blood, wiping the excess from his lips with a bare arm.

"Ohhhhh fuck that's good" He sighed, relaxing against the couch. His eyes floated over to Lucy and a smile spread across his face. "Clever girl. I usually don't mix the whiskey with the blood 'til it's in me system"

Licking some of the remaining red from his blood-stained lips, he rose slowly to his feet. Having the blood in his system had started to wake up the vampire in him and he cast a long hungry look at Lucy. Within an instant he drank in Lucy's form from head to foot. It made him ache.

Pushing the hair from his eyes, Gabriel gave his charge one more look before shaking off the temporary ephoria from the blood.

"Now yer friend has questions I'm sure. What can I answer darlin" He asked Emily.

She walked over to the man named Gabriel and looked at him.

"So.. Let me get this straight... You're a vampire.. The guy outside is a vampire.. and some how Lucy and I are vampires too..?"

Lucy sat aside, giggling as he found the alcohol in it. She had thought it would get his attention. She took the glass from him, smiling as Emily asked him questions. Good. She hadn't spooked her off with what she had told her.

She took the cup to the kitchen, starting to wash it. She paused, seeing the ring of deep red that was left about the edge of the cup. She peeked back around the corner to see the two talking, then looked back at it. That smell... She closed her eyes, inhaling it a moment, then shivered. She was doing it again....

She quickly washed the glass, then went back to the living room, watching as Gabe explained and waiting to see if she would be needed to help explain with him.

Blinking several times Gabriel folded his arms across his chest. "Well I'm a vampire, that's an easy yes. The bloke outside seems to more o' a grey area. Now you 'n Luce here are a different matter altogether"

Gabriel picked a thin black t-shirt and pulled it over his torso, taking a moment to ruffle his hair slightly. He hated it when it wasn't in complete disarray.

Turning back to the girls he continued explaining, "You are Chosen. Children possessin both human and vampiric traits. Ye can travel in sunlight, stand up to blessed items, all manner of things we full bloods can do. But yer powers are still sleepin, and there's no way to know when they'll emerge. It's why Chosen are put under care o' a Guardian. Like I am for Lucy. I'd imagine yer Guardian is lookin everywhere fer ya"

Crossing back towards Lucy, Gabriel reached his hand out to brush her hair away from her eyes. Lovely, dark eyes. "Guardians watch over their Charges. It's our duty, our one purpose in life. All that matters"

Turning back towards Emily, he nodded his head to the clock on the wall. "But we're not setting foot outside this apartment for another 4 hours. Once the sun goes down we'll be safe to look fer yer Guardian"

"I see...But I don't have a guardian...I've been alone all this time... No one's looking for me.."

"Many of the children have become spread across the world, and the vampire council dosen't even know where they all are. The Guardians are able to feel out the locations of their Charges but it can take time. Yer Guardian may have just made contact. 'Ave ye met anyone new lately? Someone who feels...strange"

Gabriel folded his arms across his chest as he paced back and forth through the apartment. The space was somewhat confined as it was, and having two other bodies in the room.

"Yer guardian will instruct ye in how to live as a Chosen, and how to protect yerself from the Brother'ood"

Lucy shook a finger at her, smirking. "Think about it, Em. The weird guy that got in your dorm room. Now how do you figure he found you and knew so much about you? He's a few years late, but that was your Guardian. Or at least... the replacer."
She gave Emily a frown as she continued. "I had to learn all about this a few years ago... In case it ever happened to me... Your original guardian was most likely killed by the Brotherhood." She looked to Gabe, thankful it hadn't happened to her- and hoping it never did. "The vampire who came to you most likely had the opposite happen to him.. His chosen was killed. A Guardian finds the nearest lone Chosen after the grieving."

She turned to Gabe with that. "Speaking of this mystery vampire... I know we still have a few hour before we can go out, but perhaps we could look for him? He couldn't have gone too far, right?"

Gabriel shook his head firmly. "No go Luce. Not sendin the two of you out in broad daylight when they're at least one Holy Brother about."

Plopping down on the couch he sighed. Having mutiple Charges under his care made his life twice as complicated and this wasn't the time to take stupid risks. Still, he hated doing nothing. He wanted to get a weapon and get out there. There was a Guardian out there by himself, being hunted in daylight.

"No the best bet there is to try and have him come to us." Gabriel leaned back, tilting his head back and letting his eyes close. They would need to send a signal of some sort. His eyes snapped open and he rose slowly to his feet.

"Lucy, I 'ave an idea but I need yer help." His voice dropped an octave.

Lucy frowned, dropping onto the couch and folding her arms. Damn. She had hoped to at least get out there and maybe poke her head into one of the goth clubs.
She glanced over to him, seeing the look on his face and realizing he was up to something. She smirked, sitting up as he called to her. "What do you have in mind?"
