I don't go there myself, but I've heard people who frequent Lit Chat say that the best thing to do is keep trying.

Best thing to do is have your mouse on the BACK button and your finger on the enter key and go back and forth until it lets you in! It only needs one person to leave to allow you to get in. It may take around ten times or more for it to work but there is always somebody leaving the chat room that you can replace.

Just keep hitting refresh until it works. At peak times it can take up to 5 - 10 minutes if you don't get lucky, but eventually you will get in. And get a chance to chat with suave gentleman like myself, while defending yourself from the hoardes of unwashed male attention.
