(This is OPEN to any lady or gentleman that wants to jump in!)
As Josie fell onto her sofa, a glass of wine in one hand and her cell phone in the other, only one thought was on her mind: It was Saturday night and she was spending it alone.
Pathetic.
It's not that Josie needed to go out every night, of course. As she had steadily rode through college, started out on her own, got a job, and now was actually something like an adult, she had started to act like one as well. Drinking all night and showing up to work hungover wasn't as acceptable in your late-20s as it was a few years back, so she had started to dial back. But there were some nights that she wished she hadn't, like tonight.
She didn't want to get drunk, though; she could do that fine and well on her own, as pathetic a thought that was, too. What she missed was going out to the bars, being hit on by an assortment of people, and hopefully going home with one of them. It had always been rather easy for Josie to find someone, male or female. With her long legs, toned physique, and impossibly blonde hair that was actually natural, she was beautiful -- and she knew it.
But, she'd had to dial back on that as well. After a few actual relationships, she had mostly given up on the bar scene, relying instead on her offical Friend With Benefits and vibrator that took up residence in the drawer in her bedside table when she was single. Tonight wasn't a night for being on her own, though. Tonight she needed some company.
Josie didn't hesitate a moment before picking up her phone and penning a text message to that familiar phone number. They only called upon the other every few weeks or so, but those nights were always something else to remember and they always started the same way -- with a quick text message: "you busy tonight? i could use some company".
