Why is it that so few people here can see the gray in life?

Is anything really black and white?

I find myself amazed at the number of people who will argue about something, and yet not acknowledge legitimate arguments made against them.

I find this especially prevalent in political threads between Republicans and Demcrats?

So why do you think this occurs?

I've never owned a pair of grey shoes... Must go shopping now...

If they were all Libertarians, there would be no argument.

Because some people who own computers are in the habit of forming opinions on things they know nothing about. At best their opinions are drawn from analysis provided by other sources rather than thinking for themselves.

Its hard to argue against a belief masquerading as an "informed opinion."

Thanks Glam, I like to think so. But then again, I have a magic mirror which tells me that every morning.

Okay it's not magic, it's just a cheap tape recorder that says it, but I still listen :D

Yes, but my question is why does one side have to be 100% right and the other wrong.

How often have you ever heard someone say "that's a good point" as opposed to the number of times a poster will reply by bringing up an unrelated topic to support their point that the other side is wrong?

Rose - Even Libertarians do this.

opinions and ideas

Watch your opinions and ideas change, when you go thru the diffrent seasons of your life.

A lot of times, especially when arguing beliefs, people will become ego involved, or be ego involved from the outset. This usually results in the "argument" being nothing more than an exercise in attempted domination rather than a free exchange of ideas or an attempt to understand the other person's view.

Sometimes I will initially ask "Is there anything I can say that will change your opinion?" If not, then I will either spen my time elsewhere, or, in rare cases, will engage in further dialog in an attempt to at least understand where the other person is coming from. I usually don't do the latter too much though. Fanatics tend to repeat their arguments after a short period of time. Quantity, not quality dontchaknow.

No. (though that is a plus). I just can’t stand him and find him a bit gross lookin’

I agree with what you are saying, I just find it interesting how infrequently "discussion" occurs here on this "discussion board."

It becomes a case of two people (or more) presenting and re-presenting their point of view ad nauseum.

Some people are incapable of recognizing a "no win" situation.

Others are incapable of recognizing that when a valid point is made, it doesn't necessarily invalidate their position.

When they start regurgitating the same views by simply rewording them, that's when I go post fluff for a while. Fluff may be just as pointless, but at least it's entertaining. :)

You just don't get it, do you? How can I be patently argumentative if you keep agreeing?

Okay, at the risk of turning into a "Bugs Bunny" cartoon......

You're right......
