The best thing in music since music began

Okay, I'm not familiar with Bootsy. I'll plead ignorance to him/her.

How can anything associated with Sniff Doggy Dung be called music?

Call me old......

Crystal Method's remix of "Magic Carpet Ride." You just haven't lived until you've tripped like I do.

Oh, Bootsy Collins was a bass player in James Brown's backing band, and was in Parliament. He's widely considered to be one of the most influential funk bass players of all time.

Snoop is a singer. Singers are associated with music. How do they paint the walls back in 1955?

did he ever play with sister sledge cause the funk bass on that is wild

Oh, THAT Bootsy.

Sorry, all the "Rap Artists (oxymoron)" are taking on pet names these days, I lost my head.

I wasn't around in 1955, but I imagine painting walls may have changed a little since.

One thing I do know (dusts off the hi-fi, slaps on a ten-inch platter of Basie) is that a long, long time ago a musician had to be able to make the noise, and do it live, before any record company would allow them to make a recording. It was a prerequisite.

The times, they are a changin'.

Steven Tyler can rap with the best of today's so called rap artists. And his band can play some pretty good rock & roll too. Think of that!

I'm distracted by his microphone.

By the way, Myst - your musical tastes are wonderful. Keep making recommendations. *Chuckles.* I finally got around to getting the Rob D remix of Moby's Porcelain. -And- I love the new AV, too. That's right. One concentrated shot of positive. I'm sunshiney.

Not at all. I don't think rapping takes any talent. I can rhyme as good as anyone. I can talk fast. I just don't think there's much of a market for large white dudes with no criminal record as rappers, otherwise I'd be a huge fucking phenom.

And what the fuck, you don't like Aerosmith?

Which is as relevant as noting that I sing poorly and play guitar with a little proficiency. It doesn't make me Bob Dylan.

First off I doubt you have the rhyming talent of anyone, second talking fast is besides the point. You're being comically ignorant, here dude.

But you're no poet, Dylan was and is.

If you think crap, sorry rap music is the finest since music began then surely you need someone to look into why you are completely tone deaf!

Huh? And you're making fun of my comedic ability? yeesh.

Second, don't besmirch my rhyming talent. You have no idea.

Third, please tell me what great gifts one has to have to be a rapper. As far as I can see it's all attitude and production.

The pants can be pretty important and the bling bling factor. Yo.

Heh. I'm so white.

Yeah, bling bling, that's what I was just thinking, yo.

I don't think all rap sucks, some of it I like a lot. It's definitely not the best thing since music began, though.

I don't think all rap music is great. What I was talking so ecstatically about was the teaming of Snoop, who is a very good singer as well as a very talented lyricist, with Bootsy who is a great musician. The song is great yo.

You don't know whether or not I'm a poet.

You need to look into why you're trapped in 1985.

A rapper or a good rapper?

The answer to the first is nothing, just like any other kind of music.

A good rapper is a good lyricist and a good singer.

Plus, Production as you guys call it is as valid as playing the violin. It's all music.

What I'm getting hung up on is this - is Snoop short for Snoop Doggy Dogg? If so, I'm getting hung up on referring to him as a singer. *Scratches his head.* Or am I confused?

So, do you think Snoop Dogg is as talented as say...Mozart? Chuck Berry? Eric Clapton?

Yup. Why?

THere are two reasons why he's a singer

1) Pure and simple occasionally he sings. He's really good in a 70's funk/soul kind of way

2) I've always thought that talking over music of anykind is "singing" listen to Dylan on "Blowin' in the Wind" or anything by Cake. There's more lift to snoops voice by the chords.
