I bought a copy of the book, read it twice, then threw it away.

Its not about how dum blacks are, its about how dum all are because they don't go to Harvard. Harvard adds an edge to stout pissant and pedestrian stock.

Harvard does no such thing. Its a place to meet celebrities; plenty of ambitious folks go there to fetch dry cleaning and wash cars for these celebrities. Or fuck them. Or score dope for them. Real scholars don't go to Harvard, George Bush and John Kerry go to Harvard. Dubya's GPA was actually a tidge higher than Kerry's.

The Bell Curve is an arrogant sermon about how futile your life is unless you go to Harvard or Yale or Princeton etc. That's bull shit and I tossed the book in the garbage.

As a psychologist I discovered that IQ means shit above, say...130. With 130 you can do pretty nearly anything. IQ is like pounds. At 130 pounds a woman is healthy and attractive and able; at 200 not so much. Above 130 IQ I think the score measures psychotic aptitude, that is, one's correlation with space cadets and liberals.

130 is a good spot separation point. I have noticed those below that ballpark tend to claim IQ can't be measured at all. (Not what you are saying, of course.) But yes, at some point above there? What does it mean? Nothing useful. The hoary chestnut about genius and insanity is apt.

I wonder what the odds are on your IQs being between 130 and 150?

But you are right about Harvard, of course. Properly clever people go to MIT or Caltech. Or Oxford.

Generally speaking too much of anything is not good. And I've not met anyone with high IQ who impressed me. 130-145 is about right for specialized purposes, and 80-120 is fine for 95% of life. Teachers seem to cluster 80-100, and managers 60-80.

You ever notice a tendency to assume that we all hang around people with a decent IQ. Sense of humor is diagnostic I think.

Theres a guy I hang around with... He has a sense of humor, in that he gets my jokes usually even the cerebral ones. Not as funny as he thinks, but a good friend. He has some creative chops and I think should design scifi gadgetry. The think is he thinks it is all potentially real. I try to gently dissuade him, but he really thinks some of these ideas or possible while defying the basics. Like conservation of energy or conversion of matter...Flubber shit.

So after I while I realized I was giving him to much assumptive power of comprehension. One day he mentions he took an IQ test. Comes up 95. In hindsight about right, But somehow all of my friends...everyone I relate to seem smarter than average, I thought.

When I was a kid nerds were a self selecting population. They actually tested for aptitudes and shit. Now, not so much.

From Riddick:

"Is it true that 50% of the people you meet are of below average intelligence?"

:D

Didn't Sheldon's mom say something to him once about it's being okay to be smarter than everyone else and not needing to rub everyone's noses in it? I dunno.

Ever notice how with a lot of bright folks, you can't tell them shit because they already believe their press releases?

There are also a lot of kinda bright folks who believe those releases, too, as well as the few they release, too.

Then there are some semi-bright folk who will defend the above to have the acceptance they need so badly.

Misantropism makes more sense as time goes by. Society is a necessary evil.

In the modern educational system there ARE no smart people. It is assumed all are exactly as apt. Hell of a way to run an asylum.

She's looking at me and thinking "dummy!"

;)

"But that's okay sweetie, dumb men are good fucks..."

50% of the people I meet are smarter than me!

Another good 20% believe they are...

:D

You were here for the Golden Age of Lit where anyone would say something and then DCL would be along to remind us all how much smarter he is/was/should be.

My fave was one day he said that there was no good soldier ever drafted, and some guy posted the next post that Alvin York was a draftee. Talk about sputtering. Oh well.

I think one's Successful Posting Career says as much about typing skills as anything else.

And ability to find good pR0n:

Oh hell yes.

His eye cue must have been about 300...

And he wrote stories about underage sex and got everyone to adore him for it.
