Besides this first post, please no OOC ramblings in this thread, even though I'm sure I'll be the first one to break this rule. All such jibber-jabber should be posted here as should all new players wishing to join. :)

At the beginning of each new "day" in island time, you'll see the following:
Weather:
Jobs:
Entertainment:

and those will tell you whether it's raining or sunny, what jobs need to be done around the beach, and what activities are planned such as a game of football or volleyball. Either shadowoftheheart or myself will post them. Also, all the travelers sleep in a longhouse, much more friendly that way :D

And finally some pictures of our location:

I opened my eyes sleepily as the blinding sun filtered through my closed lids. For a second I nearly forgot where I was. But then the beautiful white sands and the brilliant blue water swirled through my memory. Of, course," I thought. "I'm in paradise."

I wasn't alone in paradise. Somewhere on the dazzling beach was Janice, my best friend from cultural exchange club, as were the few other people that we had trusted enough to bring to the island. Our own little slice of the world; totally secret, totally forbidden, totally gorgeous.

Just the other day, some girl had washed up on the island. How she had managed to wash up into the small cove which lay hidden between the towering cliffs of the island was beyond me.

"What is her name? I thought, not really remembering much about the girl. I hoped she wouldn't be trouble for our island utopia, because if she wanted to leave than perhaps she would tell others about the place. I certainly didn't want the whole fucking world turning up on our doorstep.

Rising from my little cot, I noticed that there were still quite a few people sleeping, probably the effects of the marijuana party we had had the night before. I smiled and crept out silently to the tropical air outside of the longhouse. Making my way down to the beach, I settled in to the sand and did what I do everyday; watch the calming waters that flooded onto the beach and wait for everyone to wake up.

As I awoke it took me a few seconds to figure out where I was. The boat was not rocking in time with the waves and it was then that I remembered that I was taking it easy on dry land. Everyone else seemed to be sleeping and I rolled off my cot shaking the sleep from my eyes. I was hungry but there seemed to be no kitchen a problem that would have to be addressed. I wasn't a bad carpenter and felt I could come up with something. In the mean time I needed coffee and a quick dip in the ocean to wash away the effects of last night party. I walked outside and the sun was beaming down and it looked to be a nice tropical day though storms in this part of the world could blow up really fast. I restarted last nights camp fire and found my supply of coffee and fresh water putting it over the fire to perk. Well, while that was getting ready a nice swim would make the day so much better. I walked to the secluded beach and not seeing anyone around I stripped. I walked into the water waist deep then dove into the surf my head disappearing from view.

I had closed my eyes and allowed the peaceful calm of the beach to surround me. When I opened them again, I realized that I was no longer alone. Dave, who had recently just "bumped" into the island, was in the water; in the water butt-naked. I had figured him as someone who would take warming up to the way of life on the beach, but here he was in all his naked glory enjoying the brilliant blue waters of the morning. I smiled and picked myself off the sand, stripping as well.

"Of course," I thought. Maybe he's naked because he doesn't know there's anyone here." I hesitated a moment and then swiftly walked down the beach, closer to Dave.

"Hey, Dave!" I called out, when he surfaced for air. I loved the squish of wet sand between my toes and stood for a moment in the surf. "Had fun last night?"

I opened my eyes, noticing the bright sun, hearing the sound of the surf, feeling the rough sand on my naked body. I sat up slowly, a slight throb in my head a lingering reminder that I had overindulged with the pot last night. But, who cared? This was so worth it: Falling asleep on a beach with a pot-buzz, waking up the next day to the hot sun, and all with no clothing to hold me back. It was a dream come true.

I saw Dave come out of the longhouse and watched him. He didn't seem to notice me because he stripped and entered the water. I watched him smiling with appreciation. A very pleasant way to start the morning!

I stood up, and walked over to the fire that Dave had restarted. I would have to start breakfast soon. The fire was hot enough, so I went into the longhouse to get what part of my kitchen gear would work in such a case.

As my head broke the surface of the water I heard someone speaking to me and looked up to see a naked woman standing at the shoreline looking at me. I knew her name was Aliyah and was the founder of this "resort".

"Yes, so did I and look forward to doing it again. Hey do you want to join me for a morning swim. I have some coffee brewing and it should be ready by the time we are done."

I woke suddenly and violently thrashing about believing I was still in the hellish nightmare that haunted me nearly every night. It always started out the same and ended the same. I'd made a drug deal, nothing new there, with some Columbian's, still nothing new. The deal was simple: they would need 10 large cargo containers every 3 months for the importation of cocaine and marijuana. I would get my standard 20% cut, calculated before leaving Columbian port, and in return they would be able to easily move their drugs into America. Then it flashes forward 3 months and I'm leaning against one of the ten cargo containers containing the Columbian's drugs. The sun is shinning and I am anxious to get home and in the pool. I have no reason to do business at night like drug smugglers always do in the movies. Those who need to be in my pocket are and know well the price for trying to get out.

Five of my men are standing nearby each armed with fully automatic and fully loaded mac 10's strapped to the interior of the black leather coats their each wearing. Rounding the corner I see three three full size vans. “Shit!,” I think to myself “The bastards brought more men then he said he would. And he brought more vans than he said he would. Fuck! This was suppose to be a key for money exchange not a goddamn circus. Shit! Shit! Shit!” I stay leaning against the crate even though inside I'm fuming and I can feel the nagging in the back of my head telling me this deals gone south. Before I can react the vans come to a screeching halt whipping the passenger side to face our way. Before the vans even stop moving and my mouth starts moving the sliding doors fly open. Behind each door are two men armed with assault rifles who waste no time opening fire on my men and I.

Instantly I'm screaming that the deals gone south and to retreat. But even reacting as fast as I did two of my men drop and I'm hit twice. Once in my left shin and again in right shoulder. Joseph, my main gun, already spraying at the vans races to me and helps me up and to our SUV nearby. Alfred and Jake cover us as we make our way to the SUV but they never make it inside but instead become riddled with bullets and fall to the ground. Before I can protest Joseph is driving off causing my door to slam shut.

Joseph drives me home and my private doctor immediately takes me to my trauma room and begins working. Just before I go under I look over and realize Joseph is bleeding profusely. In fact it looks like he was shot three times in the chest. Before I can say anything I'm under and just as my eyes fall close I see Joseph collapse to the ground. His 250 pound plus body crumbling like a stone pillar under its own weight.

Then I wake up screaming on and on about Joseph my other fallen men. Not two weeks later I had handed over my empire to a close friend and business partner saying I'd had enough. After that I'm on a boat headed toward a supposed secret paradise island to retire. I'm there for almost two years when I finally get bored. Looking for something to do I decide to start a farming operation farming marijuana. Next thing I know I'm one of the largest importers to the mainland and my farming operations encircle 40% of the island with a half-assed treaty of sorts with the resort on the other side of the island.

Finally after my breathing had returned to normal I climb out of bed. Last night I had taken the farmers and all my men to the resort side of the island for a party. My mind was still foggy but I could remember smoking nearly continuously the whole time. By the time we had left the party everyone on the island was baked. Other than getting there, smoking a lot and leaving the rest was blurred.

"Hey, do you want to join me for a morning swim?" he asked. "I have some coffee brewing and it should be ready by the time we're done." I smiled. He definitely had brought some very useful tools to the island in his boat. "What was it he did again?" I tried to remember last night's conversation, but it was lost in a haze of weed and coconut rum.

"Sure, let's swim," I said, hoping that he didn't think I was about to get frisky with him. So far, there were several handsome men on the island, and I would have loved to get busy with any of them. But the fact was, I was the so-called "leader", and sleeping with all my fellow traveller's was not something I wanted to do; well not yet anyhow.

As soon as Dave had landed on the beach, Janice had taken notice of him, and so had I. She bet me I wouldn't last one day without fucking him. I took the bet. Seemed like a foolish thing to do, now as he stood before me in all his naked glory. "Shit!

"So tell me again what you do Dave? Or did? You know there's no way you're going to go back to your old life now, right?" I smiled. I had been on the island for at least a month. During that time, Janice and I had rowed back to mainland several times, and each time we picked up another traveller that we deemed suitable to our community. Each time, I had felt a sudden sickness at the drunken idiots who called themselves tourists, and the tumultous tide that was called modernization. I really never wanted to return to my old life.

I had put on a long shirt (grease splatter made naked cooking a bad idea!) and was kneeling beside the fire.

Fish was not the greatest thing for breakfast, but I needed meat of some kind. It was frying up in a pan, and I imagined it was bacon and eggs....

I was watching a naked Aliyah, smirking because I knew Dave was out there in the ocean, also naked. That little bet we had made sure looked like it was mine.

The wind was blowing from the location of the longhouse and I swore that I could smell bacon cooking. I was either imagining it inspired no doubt by my rumbling stomach or someone was cooking breakfast.

The warm sun felt good on my back. I drifted out of deep peaceful slumber. I could hear the wonderful rhythm of the oceans waves lapping on the distant beach. Natural sounds were soon joined by laughter and cheerful voices. People were splashing splashing around in the surf. The need to turn over and watch was impossible to resist. I was still wearing my shorts and t-shirt. I had slept on top of my brand new sleeping bag, not far from my little boat. I hadn't even taken time to pitch my tent after attending the great party the night before.

I gazed at Aliyah, Dave, and the rest as they played in the roaring surf. I began to realize how happy I was to be here. There were no worries here now. Life was going to be good from now on.

The pleasant thoughts mingled with my dreams as I rummaged through my supplies for food. I watched the happy skinny dippers play as I ate my bowl of cereal on the white sandy beach of paradise.

I looked back through the trees, to the little camp that was already shaping up nicely. Not long ago, the island had been totally deserted and overgrown with nature. When Janice and I got here, we slowly began to cut away the jungle and forge out a little space of our own.

The longhouse was big enough for the people that lived on the island now, but I made a mental note that if more people came *shudder* we would have to add onto it. I could see Janice sitting near the fire and watching us. I smirked. "She probably thinks she's going to get to watch me break the bet." I lifted my arm high and gave her the finger. I knew, or rather didn't think, that she would take me seriously. I didn't even know if she could see me that well from this far away.

Janice was cooking some breakfast, and from what I could smell it was fish. "She must be preserving the stuff that Dave had on his boat," I thought and my thoughts returned to Dave. Lucky thing Alfonze didn't find him before we did.

Alfonze, the jerk who had joined our community but then left owing to "boredom", was the source of much grief for me. How he had come to our island, I had no idea. One day he just sort of showed up. At first I liked him and enjoyed his company, but there was something dark about him, and soon I discovered why. He was a druglord.

Still, a fact that wouldn't have bothered me, except that his dissent from the community threatened my little band. "No more people," he ordered me, because that threatened his business. We were on an island that by Thai law we weren't supposed to be on; forbidden, secret. Yet here we were, and there Alfonze was just milking the land for his own profit. Ass.

I watched Aliyah give Janice the finger with some amusement. " Is there something between the two of you I should know?" I knew the stores on my boat would not last long and thought man needs meat to survive. I knew there would be wild pigs and fowl in the jungles surrounding our little beach. A few traps should do nicely and along with the fish we should be set for meat. I looked back at Aliyah and said, "Hey come swim with me for a few minutes. There is something I really wanna show you." About 50 yards offshore was a large rock formation jutting up from the ocean. As I had swam around it I had found an opening about 10 foot below the surface that opened back up into a cave. The entrance tunnel to the cave only went about 6 foot and then it led to a dry opening inside the rock formation. The rock formation was basically hollow. The floor was large enough for several people and I had brought torches and some supplies for just in case.

Edward grogilly woke up inside the longhouse. It had been one hell of a long night, what with the pot party and all. He looked around through bleary eyes, seeing a couple of other people still asleep.

Scratching his head, Eddie climbed out of bed. He was still wearing his t-shirt and shorts from last night. Ah hell! He was wearing the same bloody clothes he had worn the day he had arrived! Inwardly, he cursed his lack of forthaught before staggering out of the longhouse.

Squinting, he could see that it was another sunny day. The sun beat down with it's usual heat - a heat the Eddie wasn't quite used to yet. Having come from England, most days were around 15 degrees, but he swore it was at least twice that here...

"Oh?" I raised an eyebrow at him. "And just where are we going?" The cool water was a great relief from the burn of the sun. "We're all gonna get skin cancer out here," I thought, but it wasn't an unhappy thought. I loved this island. I vowed to myself that I would live here even when all my friends had left me, even when someday the Thai government decided to bring habitation to the previously untouched sanctuary; I would not leave.

I began to swim and follow this strong, good-looking...can't remember what he said he did...guy, wondering where there was a place on the beach that he knew about and I didn't.

I led Aliyah out to the rock formation. The currents were not strong and it was a easy swim. Once there I grabbed hold of the formation and said, "Right below us under the water about 10 feet is a entrance to a dry cave. Its pretty cool wanna take a quick peak. I have already brought dry torches and candles along with an underwater flashlight. Just grab my hand and I will lead you through its not far at all."

James

James woke up next to a tree, his clothes, oddly, were M.I.A. All he had was a towel that had apparently served as a blanket the night before, and now filled the roll of shorts; ant that was all which covered his 6’2” athletic frame. Nude beaches were nice and all – but it can still be a bit too breezy in the morning. The smell of fish hung in the air, he assumed that was Janice Hard at work already. Rumor had it they had a task the might involved his skills here today – a pleasant change from city life already!

First order of business – follow his nose to the food! Partying and whatever else he didn’t remember doing last night apparently was hungry work. Sure enough, there was Janice cooking away in naught but a long shirt…

“You’re my new favorite person! I’m starved!” He gave her a wink, “Anything I can do to help?” He ran his fingers through his dusty blond surfer dude hair, attempting to simultaneously look charming and comb it for the first time this morning.

Edward staggared down the beack, the fresh smell of cooking drawin him on. It reminded him of home somewhat, as he always liked to cook a fish for a meal every day.

He smiled when he saw Janice, cooking fish in a pan over a little fire. What's more, it seemed that someone else, specifically James, had also smelled the food. He walked up to the pair and smiled. "So, got a taste-tester yet? If not, I'll gladly voulenteer!"

I smiled up to James and Edward.

"Well, there's enough here for both of you, and I can fry up some more in case anyone else wants any. Sorry it's fish, but that's all we have right now."

She gets a couple plates out of her kitchen kit.

"I really need a proper kitchen. With a roof, and a proper stove. Well, I guess a cooking-pit would have to do. Say, maybe that can be today's Project?"

She cut the fish into two portions, placed each on a plate, and gave one plate to each man with a fork, and a smile.

James

He ate eagerly, then returned the plate. He walked over to the lodge, dressed himself in cargo shorts and a white t-shirt, and emerged with his backpack. Within was graph paper, a lifetime supply of mechanical pencils, an equally ridiculous number of erasers, a clip board, and several drafting and measurement tools.

“So Janice….tell me of your wildest dreams….”
He said with a devilish grin, pausing long enough for her to let her mind slip into the gutter. “…wildest dream kitchen that is…you perv…you can show me those later.” He laughed, but was set up and ready to listen to her kitchen needs, He’d doodle and sketch as she spoke, then draw up a plan of attack later. Based on that he could figure out how much of what materials would need to be gathered, and how best to assemble them.

It truly was going to be better out here…so much simpler…he could feel it.

I smirked.

"James, I don't think you can run natural gas lines out here, can you? So, in terms of what we can do. Obviously, we have to use wood for the fire, so we probably have to have a central cooking-pit. One that we can suspend pots or spits over. We're probably going to do roasting and boiling mainly. Well, we need lots of room, lots of counter space. I am hoping that I won't be the only cook on the island, so there needs to be room for ... let's say, three of us, working together. At least. Oh, and we need an underground larder. Root cellar. Again, a refrigerator is probably beyond our means .... "

I stopped to breathe, and let James catch up to my ideas.

James' first mission

Visions of Swiss family Robinson danced through his head as she spoke.

If I can find some metal…not even really thick stuff…I can make her an oven.

Grill is no problem, as well as the open pit for roasting…

Water based cooling…not as good as a refrigerator…but cooler then just a root cellar, which would not work at all at sea level…unless root cellars are usually used as swimming pools…

“Go ahead, I’m listing hun.” He chuckled…she’d be blown away by the plans…

"Okay let me see ... I suppose running water is also out of the question. I'll need something to hold water. A sink ideally, but without running water that will mostly be ... what, a tub?
"I think the most important thing is space. Cupboards are a must. Oh, and as a minor point, we're going to need a lot more dishes, pots, pans, silverware ... and I don't know if we can make most of those ourselves. We may have to break down and go to the Mainland for some of these things. Unless you have some idea how we can make them?"

Spycey had woken up at the foot of the tree she had fallen next to the night before. She reached for the remains of her joint and had a wake and bake. When she felt she could function normally she leaned back and saw...fruit. She had fallen asleep under a goddamned fruit tree! She giggled softly and shimmied up the tree just as she smelled the fish cooking. Listening with half an ear to the conversation below her, she plucked four large mangoes from the branches of the tree. She crawled closer, took carefull aim, and threw... The fruit landed with a plop in the sand next to the cook fire. She laughed and waved at the pair, holding up the other three treats. "Look what I found!" She began climbing down, still calling out to the others. "And to the north I saw a silver shimmer...maybe a fresh stream!" Leaping the last few feet she strode up to the others, still in her black bikini. Her wet suit was laying next to the tree she had woken up under. She sat herself down, not to near the fire, and dug her finger nail into the skin of a yellow-orange mango. "Dishes are easy. Mom taught me pottery, and we have mud and water, and some stones can make a decent kiln. Heh....funny! For the first time I'm kinda glad I had hippies for parents!" Her bloodshot eyes sparkled in amusement as she peeled the fruit.

Sarah

After cereal, some beef jerky, a peanut butter sandwich, and an orange, I returned to the boat to find my boogie board. Pulling my clothes off, I grabbed it and ran down the beach.

The warm water swirled around my legs as my feet seemed to melt down into the sand. Pressing out into the deeper water, I began jumping as the waves rolled by. Soon a nice one grabbed the board, I held on as it carried me. After riding about two dozen times my arms got tired. I let a wave take me in, then crawled the rest of the way onto the soft sand of the beach.

Such a wonderful day. I could do this for the rest of my life. Time to build a sand castle! I rolled over on my side and began brushing sand into a pile.
