One hundred and fourty years ago today, the Union army led by Burnside pitted against Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. Some of the fiercest fighting took place at Marye's Heights. My great-great uncle was a private with the 37th Massachusetts infantry regt and fought in the battle.

gunner, you've got me thinking. my great-great grandfather and namesake was a lieutenant on the yankee side of things and for some reason i seem to remember the battle that you're talking about. i've got one aunt left alive that was really into the family history and i'm going to check with her about this.

wouldn't that be cool to find out we both had relatives in a battle that happened that long ago?

only Great-Great??? My Great-Great-Great-Great grandfather was Gen Hood for the CSA..... I had a couple of uncles to but I'm certin they were at least three Great generations back or more???

That would be ironic, if you have a name and regiment there are a million websites online where you can do a search on a service record. As for ironic, my wife has two relatives that fought in the Confederate Army at Gettysburg and took part in Pickett's charge against Cemetery Ridge. Defending Cemetery Ridge was two of my relatives that fought in the Union army.
