The AR-15 is too powerful and dangerous to be allowed into the hands of civilians in the United States.

We shouldn't allow civilians to own AR-15s any more than we should allow civilians to own CBRN weapons.
Limiting types of weapons doesn’t eliminate the 2nd amendment rights.

That is an inane statement by someone that probably has not fired a weapon in their entire life. AR rifle hunters in Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Iowa, Massachusetts, Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey, Washington, and West Virginia are legally required to use larger caliber bullets for hunting game because they are not powerful enough.

I could buy an AR-style rifle that shoots 9mm rounds...the same caliber as my Glock 19 pistol. You can even buy an AR-style rifle that shoots even smaller rounds like 22 LR.

Many homeowners like AR-style rifles for home defense due to the fact that they are easy to aim, shoot, & handle...especially for women. You probably think there will be a swat team that will magically show up in seconds to protect you in the case of an emergency.

But the AR-15 is particularly dangerous because it has a pistol grip, adjustable, stock, threaded barrel, detachable magazine, and rails to accept modular attachments.
You repeatedly prove you have no clue what you are talking about when it comes to weapons!

The AR-15 is NOT particularly powerful. About the only rifle LESS powerful than the AR-15 is a .22 caliber rifle!

The only issue with the AR-15 is that it LOOKS scary! So, start your thread with that title: "The AR-15 is too scary to be allowed in the hands of wackos!"

Then follow that with your OP by saying: "When I see an AR-15, I'm afraid. So, we should only allow wackos to use swords, knives, gasoline, or vehicles when they feel the need to go off on a mass killing event! I would feel much safer being burned by a Molotov Cocktail or hacked to death with a machete or Samari sword than to be shot by an AR-15."

Just when I thought it couldn’t get any dumber

Music: WHY does any of the crap you copied from an online description make that weapon "particularly dangerous"?

Do you even know what any of those things mean?
Could you tell us what a "modular attachment" might be?
How about describing why the "threaded barrel" is particularly dangerous and tell us what firearms do not have a threaded barrel.

Nothing more humorous than a blanket edict from someone with obviously zero knowledge of what they’re blabbering about.

I own many firearms, including some ARs. They are by a wide margin my least powerful rifles except for a couple of .22s.

As some have already said, go post this drivel in the politics section where it belongs. You’ll find a few there who are equally as ignorant as you on the subject. You’ll fit right in.

There are many, many problems about civilians owning AR-15.

The main one being that 5.56mm is too puny a cartridge for 2025. 1200 foot pounds of energy - that's fine - from a pistol.

AR's need to at least be 6.8mm, that hits like a hammer, or better yet, a fit for purpose AR-10 patterned for a round like 6.5mm CR, that has a good 1000 yard range.

Yes. I do not care what some people say, the 5.56 x 45 mm is not primarily designed to kill people. A BAR Mk 3 in 30-06 however.... but that does not look as scary.

Truth is, all weapons are designed to kill. The guns do not need laws or fixed. The user that wields the gun does. It’s that simple

Take a more proactive approach to mental healthcare and a much more hatsh approach to violent criminals. Catch and release is Bull Shit and we all know it.

There are many more powerful firearms available to the civilian community. Frankly, ARs are a stylistic choice. As far as how they are used goes, anything can be misused. Should we take away private vehicle ownership because of drunk driving? Kitchen knives because someone was stabbed? Require everyone to wear soft gloves because of punches? Where is the line?

And don't say "Assault Weapons". There is no such thing. If I strike you in the face with my bare hand I have committed assault using my hand. In this case my hand was an "Assault Weapon".

Or fertilizer and fuel oil.

Okay, I’ll bite. What is it about the AR -15 that makes it so dangerous and powerful? Is it the capability to use a high capacity magazine, or the semi-automatic fire? Is it the bayonet lug or the collapsible stock? Maybe it’s the pistol grip that makes that particular weapon so dangerous? What’s your criteria?

Would you limit a ban to the AR -15?

Is the AR -15 more dangerous and powerful than an SKS, or a mini-14? What about a Remington 1100 shotgun?

And as far as CBRNE weapons are concerned… should we ban either ammonia or bleach from the grocery store?

Before you make comments like this you should research ArmaLite AR-15. You will discover the AR-15 was the basis for the US M-16. The original AR-15 was a Caliber 5.56mm, not a .22 caliber like the AR-5 or AR-7.
