I posted once or twice on the General Board. The threads quickly devolved into juvenile name calling, extremely harsh and unwarranted criticism, inaccurate accusations regarding gender preference and sexual prowess, and worst of all, a flurry of unwelcome PMs. I have no interest in returning to the General Board.

In contrast, the folks at AH are for the most part interested in writing and self improvement. There are plenty of off-topic threads, but people here get to know each other and usually refrain from unwarranted criticism. There is a troll or two, but "ignore" does wonders.

I would have to ignore almost everybody at GB.

GENERAL BOARD is a dysfunctional social game where the contestants attempt to manipulate the other players into expressing informed and plausible opinions, but almost always fail.

The AH, on the otherhand is the Land of Lotus Eaters and Homo Worshippers. Everything is tolerated at AH but truth and reality.

I'm going to take a contrarian position: I LOVE the General Board. The trolling. The name calling. The left vs right politics. Certain posters who really are schizophrenic. Endless hours of amusement.

The only complaint I have about the General Board is that so much of the vituperation is so inane. If you're going to be a curmudgeon, be a clever curmudgeon.

For the record for anyone naive enough to say anything they really feel about the GB just know that any inflammatory remarks or anything that can be misconstrued as an insult of any kind will be posted on the GB with your name attached to it.

They also when quoting you will add or subtract words to your words and make you look like you are saying things you are not. This will draw the pack here so please be smart and consider this the set up that it is. Or if you prefer consider it spam. Or simply don't feed the trolls.

Some time ago the GB decided to invade the AH.

They lost the war of words and retreated, pursued by the Muses.

I adore the GB.

Weird huh?

But when we were invaded by a group of GBer's they let me into the secret of it all. It's a game, not to be taken too seriously.

Yes, there's nasty arses over there but generally you get flamed when you first turn up and if you survive it you're welcomed with opened arms.

These days I post there more than here. Not sure why, it's just the balance of things right now.

You will never see a GB thread moved to the AH.

The real difference is most people on the AH have the self discipline to ignore a troll. The trolls get no attention, so their threads and posts have no attraction.

Our only resident trolls, JB and Amicus find their threads moved down market often enough to keep them in line.

The only other difference which comes to mind is the AH never has "post your best foreskin puppet pic" nights.

Thanks for the heads up Marlow, I have never been on the general board but I probably never will now, it sounds a bit too agressive for my sensibilities.

On my experience with other forum based websites, one support website I am on has a forum called the The War on Terrorism. I naively used to go on there hoping to try to help people reconcile their opposing views a little.

It was a pointless task, I got the impression that people went on there just to rant and beat up on each other, rather to be supportive of each other or actually learn something.

The GB is really not that much bigger then the AH. It only appears to be because many of the people over there have anywhere from 3-12 alternate identities. So really hard to say how many original posters you have over there

Big difference is the level of ignorance. Over here there are some occasional arguments and bickering but that is about it.

Last week my wife had an issue over there and one of the members and two of his Alts sent her PM's calling her a cunt.

Cyber bullies. The kids who got their ass kicked on the playground, the kids who had wedgies and swirlies throughtout their school years and the kids whose mom had to find them a prom date.

Chat rooms are a magnet for that type. Protected by anonymity they spew whatever hate they have with no fear of repercussion. These are the people that at social events, bars and work keep their mouths shut and their heads down because they would not have the nerve to say anything face to face.

Of course this is not all of them and I'm sure the minority but when they show up under 10 different names it appears that there are more pricks than decent people over there. For the record if I am quoted over there note that this last part will be left out.

I surf over there but only for "Big Meanies" picture threads which are pretty hot and what a forum on a sex site should be about. Or I will occasionally post on things like "what song gets stuck in your head" I stay away from anything else because they will pick you apart because you are not one of them.

Nuthin has changed in the 14 years I've been online, and its always gonna be Dodge City on a Saturday night regardless of where you go. My local newspaper threw up its hands and gave each of the Simpsons a Tazer. Now we can delete any post we dont like, for any and all reasons.

So you can either learn to shoot and hangout with the men, or you can spend Saturday night with the missus at the church social and drink milk & water.

It's about time that somebody pointed out that the above "official" description doesn't breathe a word about the aforesaid "writers" or "readers." The sole qualifications are that one be a "writer" or a "reader."


It doesn't say a thing about what or where one writes or reads. Martinets and manipulators attempting to impose qualifications upon who can post and what topics are appropriate are fabricating what is patently inaccurate.
