The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I've been a little off track lately.... but at least i was able to get some words added to my latest WIP tonight. good thing, since sleep seems out of the question. I think this one is going to be pretty decent eventually, and I like that I seem to be able to take several days off and then be right back in story mode. Indicates to me that I have a solid concept of where we are going, at least sub-conciously.

Someday I'm going to have to at least try doing an outline or at least a simple plot and try sticking to it, but for now I am the very definition of "sit down, open the document and see where it goes." That alright for shorts, even for novella's, but the longer the work gets the more you need a tracking mechanism to stay in focus... at least in my opinion.

just make sure and feed the plot bunnies.

I'm mostly a pantser as well. I have found that I do better in novels if I loosely outline the next chapter or so as I go. Roughly one point per 500 words of story or so. And I'm not dogmatic about using all the points, ignoring maybe 20%. It keeps me a little more on track towards an ending. But I still feel the sense of discovery in writing it.

So, it's cold out and we're expecting an accumulating snow tonight and overnight into tomorrow morning. I need to get out and get the bird bath warmer installed so the bird bath will stay liquid. It's a good thing I have a 100' extension cord ...

Thanks to @NotWise for hauling the tree out and putting it up in the corner. The decorations are in the boxes up against the wall, so feel free to put an ornament or two on the tree when you stop by for a cuppa. I'll need someone tall to put the topper on the tree. I'll try to get the lights on the tree (and hopefully they work).

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and some cookies in the shape of turkeys on the counter. I don't know where they came from but they look good ...

I'll be over in my usual corner working away on my story. Just a few more paragraphs to go, and then I can start editing it to get it submitted by the deadline. I'm feeling good that it'll be done in time.

Got in a quick 400 words in a writing sesh this morning, and I'm happy with that as a good start to the day. It breaks a several day long streak of very disappointing looking 0's.

Out of solidarity with the good people of the Coffee Shoppe Thread, I will not be wishing for snow. Also, here it turns to grey slush in about 8 minutes, so I'm not a fan.

If we're wishing for weather, can we wish for a little more warmth out there? I'm about to go out and buy a dozen SUV's and let them run in my driveway to encourage some more warming. It's too damned cold out there for the foreseeable future.

And that lumberjack story that I thought was toast. I think I salvaged it. Hopefully coming soon to a screen near you.

Hey, @Candy_Kane54, the Lobos ended up ranked 4th in the conference and out of the championship based on national metrics. That's a rip-off as far as I'm concerned. The Lobos beat the second-ranked and third-ranked teams. I suspect the problem with the metrics is that the Lobos lost fairly early in the season to San Jose State, and San Jose State ended the season with a poor record.

I think this is the first year the conference used the national metric that way. I hope it's the last.

Lobos are bowl-eligible, and they're likely to play in the New Mexico Bowl. We'll know in another week.

So you have a lumberjack story, and that's okay.

Weird day so far, and more weirdness pending. Snow from Saturday is almost gone; just thin leftovers in grassy shady spots. But wait, there's more. Snow, that is. NWS says we're in for a snow/rain mix starting late afternoon. 2", maybe kinda sorta, dependent on how much of it comes down as rain. 26° at the moment.

C said she fell twice this morning while she was rattling around before I got up. Not hard and she caught herself, but I'm still on high alert there. She's trying to catch up on sleep at the moment and the dog is not particularly happy about her not being up with 'im, softly woofing at us. This "Mom, get up!" has become sort of a routine. I called him into the office and he actually complied this time, and is now curled-up on his office bed.

We were supposed to have a new-to-us car delivered this morning, but the delivery driver called and said she's getting a check-engine light with a major code. "We can reschedule and look into it here, but it starts and we can deliver if that's your preference and you can have your mechanic take a look at it there." Like fuckin' hell! (No, I was nice about it.) I told her "The clock starts [for the 7-day return period] when it's delivered, so, no, I'd rather you guys take care of it [and shoulder the repair cost! Who are you kidding?]. No, she was a nice person and we had a good exchange, but this is the second time it's been postponed and I'm not getting warm fuzzies. The problem from the code she told me is likely a coil pack needing replacement. (She apparently doesn't know that, but I do.)

I'd wave off if it wasn't the exact make, model, year, and options I've been looking for, with extremely low mileage. I want to make it work.

Low mileage and a major engine code? Doesn't that add up to a lemon?

Not necessarily. It's a corporate fleet car that apparently sat for a while. So I'm not surprised by an electrics-related issue throwing a CEL like this one, you guys fix it on your dime, okay? While I sorta know my shit around cars like this, I'm going to hand it off to my mechanic the moment it rolls off the flatbed, anyway. Between the two of us I have a week to kick it back if necessary.

Broncos win! Broncos win! (again)

It's going to take a while for my heart rate to settle down. I've never seen anything like this.
You obviously don't remember when John Elway did it every Sunday; play just mediocre enough to need that fourth quarter comeback...
