The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

I wrote 1250 words today! And finished a chapter.

Now I'm trying to talk my muse into writing about ghosts and ghouls, but she just wants to point out that I wrote a story about an angel of death yesterday, and that I chose to call young orcs goblins so I should be good on such stuff.

Hmmm... Guess I'll continue writing about orcs for now.

sounds like your muse needs a good spanking.
or more coffee.

Rain and country air are NOT 'clean'.

I have one of the 10' round by 3' deep surface pools. Just enough to get in and cool off on a hot day. It was fairly clean a few days ago. After 3 days and nights of on and off storms and showers, the bottom is covered with various gunk and sediment again. Probably will take all day with the pump/filter running to clear it.

@Rustyoznail - good luck!

It's another gray foggy morning with scattered showers forecast. We got some more steady light rain yesterday so the lawn should be coming back to life. Hopefully the weeds are dead and won't come back to life before I can get out there and clean them out.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and bagels with various cream cheese spreads on the counter. Enjoy!

I'll be over in the corner pretending to work on my story while reading @onehitwanda's new story. Compared to her, my writing looks like pre-school crayon scribbling so you may hear some sobbing and whinging ...

When I see writing that's much better than mine, either from a wordsmithing or from a storytelling perspective, I go through all five stages of grief. Then I add a sixth stage, which is relentless study of the offensively skilled writer's work with an eye towards unlocking what they're doing that I haven't been.

Sometime yesterday I realized that I'd put a load of things off 'til Thursday. It's Thursday. They're almost done.

I noticed that one of the Shumard oaks I had planted a few years ago has acorns for the first time. I'll take that as a sign of healthy growth, but I'm not sure it's otherwise a good thing.

Just returned from one of our infrequent Costco shopping binges. We filled two carts. C was most kind, and opened-up a bag of organic cashews, setting a bowlful on my desk. I already know the three bags we bought won't last to the next trip there.

With the holiday shopping season starting earlier than ever and ending later than ever, October through January we don't go near the place. We don't deal well with crowds or heavy traffic, and Costco has 55-gallon drums of both proximate to the year-end observances.

Picked two more melons. There's one more I expect to ripen and a few that could ripen if the weather holds and the vines stay healthy.

We're supposed to have a rainy weekend. I hope Mom Nature gets that done now, because the next weekends starts the Balloon Fiesta. Hot air balloons fly best when they're dry.

We had garden fresh green beans with dinner tonight. The beams of some of them were spring green, while the beans of others were slate blue. It was kinda weird. I think the slate blue ones might've been more mature, cause they were also bigger. And I remember the seeds from the ones my roommate let go to seed last year being white.

I tried growing melons in our side yard when I first moved into this house. Just when they were almost ripe, the ravens or crows (I forget which and we get both) would push them off the vine and split them open and eat some of the fruit. I didn't grow them again, although I LOVE fresh melons.

since you love fresh melons:

Melons in the Morning

Melons Under the Mistletoe

Here we have a lot of crows in the winter, but they spend the rest of their time in the mountains. I've only once seen ravens in town. I'm short on birds that bother the melons. I just get aphids.

Finally a sunny morning and the grass is sparkling from the dew and is starting to turn green again. Got my lipid panel results and my HDH is low, my LDL is high, and my triglycerides are high. However, my total cholesterol is dead center in the normal range. How that works is a mystery to me.

There's a fresh pot of coffee brewing and the teapot is hot. There are donuts and danish on the counter. I'm going to make another cornbread today and if I'm really ambitious, I'll make an apple crisp.

I'll be over in the corner working on my story, so don't be alarmed if you hear any strange noises emanating from there. I'm just trying to justify my writing to my Muse and wondering about my life choices ...
