The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 09

Actually managed to write about 1000 words this week, mostly while queuing in the bank after two hours talking to half a dozen bank staff on the phone didn't get me anywhere. Though my writing app went on the blink last night and lost an hour's worth of edits. Gah.

Still, could be worse. I haven't just lost a contest for legitimacy to a lettuce, for example. All hail our leafy overlord!

Well, after months of sun, it's now pouring here. And about 3°, so it may turn solid if we're not careful.

So, yes to coffee. Please and thank you.

Good morning all .... and thank you for the coffee.

Its cold here this mornng. Brrrrr.... (Ok, not cold like those of you in the midwest.)

So do you think this is more of a validation for the Green vote or for the Leaf vote?

Mistaking a head of lettuce for the other kind of head might get you wrapped up in a leafy mess. Ya might also beware of the salad dressing afterwards.

It's starting to warm up here on the oasis of freedom, 48 degrees (8.8 C) I was up late posting another chapter of We're a Wonderful Wife, and I have no idea why. We're a Wonderful Wife is just the backstory of A Krissmas Karole, which is my Winter Holiday story. I finished A Krissmas Karole last December and I missed writing it so much I started writing the back story, which is now 9 chapters long, another chapter in the works to post before the contest, and I re-wrote A Krissmas Karole 2 weeks ago.

Why do we do stuff like this to ourselves???

Coffee please!

I hear the lettuce is for Romaine, but that's just the tip of the iceberg for topical jokes...
Wow ... I was biting my tongue but I couldn't resist ... so now I'm just going to leaf it go by the rowside ... lettuce leaf Romaine alone.:coffee: time.

For those who may not understand the joke, a meme started last weekend (I think) with a picture of a head of lettuce and a picture of the now, most recent ex-PM asking, 'Which will last longer.'

Not the entire Midwest. Highs here ~80°F through Monday. Bummer that C has come down with bronchitis, 'cuz this is the kind of weather we'd get 'er outside to... uh... "play".

Lettuce Romaine calm, for this might be just the tip of the iceberg.

Couldn't do a thing with Bibb, could ya'. 😛

Grr!

I have just filled in a 'contact us' form. It insisted that I MUST give a phone number or I could not send the message. My loss of hearing means that I cannot reliably understand anyone (except immediate family) on a telephone but the form had to have a telephone number.

Coffee is needed before I explode...

Unless it's somebody I don't want to have my phone number*, I fill it in and whether they use it or not is their problem.

* - Brick-and-mortar retailers and their ilk absolutely do not get my phone number. In the US, due to cellphones and "number portability", phone numbers have become the universal identifier, linking all sorts of scattered personal information together. That's one of the primary intents of "rewards points" programs, gathering micro-detailed personal information so it can be sold to non-competitors. I used to be in the biz.

Who says it has to be your number, most forms just say "Phone number" I can get you the number for the White House switch board

Yeah. I use 314-159-2654 in those circumstances since I live in the greater St. Louis area. Think about it for a second.

I put 000000000000, or 020 0000 0000 if they insist on a real dialling code. Though sometimes I have to give in and give my actual number and then tell people who call to email me.

Usually that works, but this week I had to download and use the new RelayUK text relay software - it superseded the previous system a couple years ago now. It worked very well, though one person still hung up on me. Do you use RelayUK, @oggbashan?

It was The Economist who were the first to predict Truss as PM would have the shelf life of a lettuce, but then the Daily Star and others ran with it, with a live feed of a photo of Truss and a lettuce with googly eyes, which rapidly gained a blonde wig, grin, hands, beer, tofu, toast & Marmite, and finally Prosecco...
