The AH Coffee Shop and Reading Room 5

Come on in. Take a seat up here at the counter or at a table out in the middle of the room or back in the corner, whichever suits you best.

We serve coffee but remember this ain't Starbucks. It only comes in black. What you do with it after that is you're own problem.

If you play nice, the waitresses (If I ever get any) might spice it for you.

If you have a new story you're proud of, post a link. Post a link even if you're not proud of it. It'll give everyone something to talk about.

No fighting and no trolling. I'd hate to have the AH Mod toss your ass out of here. Flirting will be tolerated to a point and then you can rent a room out back if you need to carry thing farther.

Thank you and welcome aboard.

Sydney's air pollution today was ten times worse than that of Beijing. It's a mixture of smoke from the Bush fires and dust being stirred up by north westerly winds following the long drought. Most construction sites have been closed and official warning is for all out door workers to stay inside.Water restrictions have started because the Sydney basin has had only 10% of normal rainfall in the past 11 months.

And to cap it off a seriously big dust storm is moving slowly on a south westerly front more than 1000 miles long from Melbourne to the Queensland border. Going to be an interesting weekend.

Send some of your rain HP. Fires have already burned through 4.5 million acres but only 800 homes so far. The first few hours in the morning before the wind clears the air a bit are pretty bad.

Sympathy for the Oz Lits.
If you guys want some wet, feel free to come and get some.
Any coffee in the pot please ?

New cafe, new pot so you're in luck HP.

4.5 million acres? That is a big area. 800 homes burnt? Is that because it is a sparsely populated area or good fire control work? We're not getting much news at the present except for the Turkey roast and I'm not talking about the Thanksgiving one.

How do you guys like the new and improved cafe? New paint, I decided to paint instead of using water. Our Ozzy crowd will appreciate that. I emptied the trash. There was surprisingly little in the basket. Now, lost and found is full of some very strange things to be lost in a cafe.

I think I'll hold a yard sale this weekend but it will be a buyer beware type deal.

A big box of donuts for the grand opening.

Probably both sparse & good control Tex.
Well, my garage door is better and a new bit of beading secures the old window.
May I have a doughnut with a coffee please ?

GM all *waves*. Hooray to donuts!

I feel like I got to see the odometer turn over!

Donuts! I need to stop by more often. The coffee is good. Black is the way I like it.

Will armadilloes make an appearance here? They and porcupines have been tussling for attention on another thread. You never know what topic may surface when you get people with some time and a lot of kinkiness together on a thread.

Yeah, clean the vibrator well. You don't know where it's been.

I washed the blankets used in the blanket fort. They are folded under the counter. I considered washing the several pairs of panties I found stuffed here and there but then I wondered if they were worth more in their, uh, natural state. The sex toys are now in plastic ziploc bags and the new owners can deal with sanitation.

When I moved the blanket fort, I found the floors in here are actually white, not medium gray. Where's the mop and bucket?

Them there donuts didn't last long. It looked like a flock of gulls around a bait tank. :D

Uh, Dillos and Porkies are both banned for obvious reasons. They seem to have a thread of their own.

By the way, the lick her cabinet has been restocked. Any donations are appreciated.

It's snowing on the mountain, and the ski resort above Santa Fe is getting heavy snow. There are even big fat snowflakes mixed with the rain outside my window.

It's making it hard for me to think about the summer-time story I'm writing.

Donates a bottle of French Champagne - the official drink for the 200th anniversary of the French Revolution in 1989.

It wasn't very good then which is why it has stayed unopened.

Donates a dozen bottles of red wine

Oh, you said "lick her". Don't mind if I do. :D

Laurel hasn't approved my liquor license so... My lick her license has been in effect since well before I was legal to discuss it on Lit. :)

I've never cared for Champagne, French or otherwise. It all tastes like spoiled vinegar to me. Maybe I just haven't had the good stuff, whatever that is.

The official champagne of 1989 wasn't the good stuff. I think it was produced by the lowest bidder. I had some in 1989, opened in traditional style by a French cavalry man with his sword.

The ceremony was impressive. The champagne wasn't. Maybe that's why they gave me a free bottle.

Today was Flu-Jab day, and, as usual, along with the queue of rational moms who, quite rightly, want to protect their children against the multitude of easily preventable, but virulently dangerous childhood diseases roaming the streets, we got the anti-vaccination 'doctors are poisoning our children with mercury*they're all in the pay of 'Big Pharma'*essential oils are all you need*copper magnets and healing crystals are proven to work*there's no such thing as herd-immunity*why should I set fire to my child to keep yours warm' crazy-eyed Gwyneth Paltrow worshipers spreading lies and panic among the 'brainwashed' mothers who are getting their kids vaccinated because they don't want them to die.

I believe in free speech, but I draw the line at Karen and Kerry and their 'I want to speak to the manager' hairstyles and unvaccinated, nose-streaming, disease-shedding crotch-fruit coming into my house and infecting newborns and immunocompromised people with God-knows what while spewing rank idiocy and spreading panic and despondency with their lies and unsupported, pseudo-scientific alternate medical theories and crystal-rattling, tree-hugger bullshit.

I actually caught one of these harridans quietly working the mother-baby unit, but she left happily of her own volition when security threatened to tase her and the local gendarmes arrested her for practising medicine without a license, which I had nothing to do with, I swear on this here stack of Batman comics...

Come on... tell us how you really feel. :D

It's one thing for someone to believe in "alternatives" to medicines, but I too have no interest in being preached to about it.

My husband has a poster on the wall in the Pediatric ER on this subject:

'Please don't compare your 12 minutes of Googling to my 12 years of medical school, and remember this; your hairdresser/dog-groomer/Pilates/yoga instructor probably didn't get very far in medical school. Essential Oil therapy to cure measles, autism, tetanus, Rubella, Whooping Cough, Varicella, Influenza, or any other communicable disease is not available here, nor are crystal healing, hot rocks, copper magnets, or urine drinking offered as viable curative procedures; if you're absolutely determined to neglectfully kill your children with easily preventable diseases, kindly take them snorkeling at the nearest sewage outfall. That is all.'

Nice.

My wife has been using essential oils and supplements for years to aid in her auto-immune issues. However, she doesn't preach to anyone (except those who ask her to) - and certainly wouldn't advise people not get vaccinated. And her regimen is based on nearly 20 years of researching, as well as trial-and-error... after a number of doctors told her they couldn't help her.

Certain vitamin supplements, Like D3, I would certainly recommend to support the autoimmune system, and, used responsibly, certain essential oils, while having an almost negligible positive benefit, can certainly do no harm, the benefit derived mainly being of a relaxative, soothing nature, which in many cases is all that's needed. I won't deny people's beliefs in the benefits of essential oils, my take is that they're harmless and the benefit derived is mainly to provide a soothing and relaxing relief.

It's when loonies who read a pamphlet somewhere start talking about using essential oils in place of antibiotics and anti-psychotics that my alarm bells go off, and when actively poisonous substances like Arnica and Monkshood are discussed by people who have absolutely no pharmacological or medical training that's when I reach for my Materia Medica and recite chapter and verse what exactly these hop-heads are promoting and just how dangerous they can be.

Locally when school started certain mothers brought their un-vaccinated kids to school, they were arrested on child endangerment. The ones who got their kids vaccinated, the charges were dropped but kept on record for next year. A couple are still on the calendar for trial after the first of the year.

Funny, I figured something like that would have made local or even national news but there was nothing reported.

Funny that.

I'm rather surprised that the anti-vax-ers are permitted to enter your 'hallowed hall', so to speak.
I'd be interested to learn what became of that harridan Will dealt with (the fish-hook in the foot?). It was just before you took a holiday, and he apparently left the file with his minion (??), because it is illegal not to have it done ?.

We get similar blank reports.
Any Tea in the pot please?

Bollinger, she purrs. Mix it with tequila and... nah, just kidding. I never like champagne until an encounter with Bollinger.

Hi HP, re the twerp with the kid with a marlin hook through his foot, she'd refused to let Will give him a local, a DTaP (Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio shot) or an antibiotic shot so he could take that giant hook out of his foot, and as I recall she invoked Jesus, so Will told her something along the lines of 'fine, let him come down here and magic it away, if not, bring your kid back when gangrene sets in and we'll try and save his foot' and filed a child neglect and endangerment report along with the video of the the incident.

Apparently she was arrested when she tried to take the boy on a plane at Orly, by this time his foot was swelled-up like a poisoned piglet and he was delirious and exhibiting classic physical signs of sepsis. He ended up in the ICU in Paris for 3 weeks, but I think they saved his leg, while she got to explain her extreme child endangerment to a magistrate who chucked her in jail, and as far as I know the authorities in NSW were waiting to grab her when France eventually deported her.

I heard they took the boy and put him in care and she lost parental rights over him; Will had reams of paperwork from something called New South Wales Department of Communities & Justice asking for evidence of neglect, cruelty, or child endangerment, a statement of his reasons for not providing care, etc. Luckily he had the detailed police report he filed reporting the serious neglect, with video of the initial patient interview, digital images, statements from the triage and ER nurses, and a copy of the police arrest record and day-book entry with charges listed. Some of these people need to be strung up over the alligator tank and poked repeatedly with sharp sticks...
