Mornin', all.

10" of snow coming in. Mr Tex, a dram of your best in my coffee, please and thanks.

I hope you like snow. It seems to get pretty old around this time of year.

I think it's going to be one of those days. My computer stays on overnight, but of course it goes to sleep. I usually wake it in the morning by moving the mouse. This morning I found myself trying to wake it by moving the keyboard and wondering why it didn't work.

I had to turn on the air conditioning yesterday afternoon and the heat on a few minutes ago. Our weather is hooked up to a yo-yo.

My bedroom is on one end of the house and my computer/workout/play room is on the other. I have a clock screen saver that comes on after 15 minutes. It has a black background and silver letters. It's not real bright but it is there for me to check when I gt up in the middle of the night.

Well, we've had snow on & off for the past 24 hours with another day full of it to come [apparently].
It's that fine, powdery stuff that blows into huge drifts at inconvenient corners on the back roads near my home.

It's dark and I need a coffee, please

The evening coffee and kettle are now available.

I think something oriental for supper sounds good. Uh, and no, I'm not talking about Chloe but now that you mention it. :D:devil:

Well, okay, I'll work too, if it makes you feel better. But I won't leave the house. :D Snow storm. I'll be working on sorting things to get rid of and my writing.

To be honest, I wouldn't have to work tomorrow, but it's become a habit. Besides, I don't think my wife wants me hanging around the house.

We're supposed to have a sun storm tomorrow: no clouds, no humidity, no wind.

Sounds awful! I'll mention you in my prayers.

Sun in Arizona and snow on the east coast. Sounds about normal for this time of the year. 74f with sun here tomorrow. That's also normal for this time of year. Whoa, that's too much normal for a Friday.

A fresh pot of coffee and a hot kettle for the late night bunch. Help your own self.

It was sunny today, but there are still some patches of snow on the ground here in Arizona. We don't get the multiple inches of snow that other other places get, but a couple of inches makes for a pretty scene. :)

A couple of inches may make for a pretty scene, but it usually makes for a dull, boring, and disappointing night. :D

I once met a girl who claimed that much more and it was 'not good' for her.

With some serious winds round here, the fine, powdery snow is blowing everywhere (Big bully coats are very necessary at present), but the weather folks have said that we should make it up to Zero come Sunday (!!).
And it's the usual saga of cancelled transport, ditto schooling up & down the country.

Meanwhile, in my small corner, the kettle's on for my breakfast coffee.
Oh, goody !

Something has woke me up twice in the last half hour. I don't know what it was but it looks like this time, I'm not going back to sleep.

Okay, fresh coffee and kettle for the morning crew. The old man at the donut shop dropped off a couple of dozen so enjoy. Save me a couple of the chocolate. Yeah, right! :D

You must've been reading my story, Tex. It's the chupacabras sniffing around outside the window

Mornin'. Large black, please.

Still snowing and likely to continue for another day at least. On the upside of that, any chupacabra foolish enough to come by here would freeze to death in minutes. All we have to contend with are side-hill grazers and snowsnakes.

No chupacabras, I'm happy to say. My guard cat found one of her catnip mice and was batting it all over the place. Of course, when I moved on the bed and sat up, she assumed it was breakfast time and headed for the kitchen cabinet where the cat food is stored.

The second time was her after she got tired of waiting. It was her opening and closing the cabinet with ever increasing force.

Ah yes, the difference between hill grazing cows and flatland cows. That always brings a smile to my face. A certain cute and quite gullible young lady working in a Burger King in Orange Co, California. Her knowledge of farm animals came from Knotts Berry Farms, I do believe. I had her convinced that hill cows had two longer legs so they didn't fall over on the hills.

Later, I found out, she went home and explained my theory to her Mother, who laughed her ass off. People wonder why I stay away from densely populated areas. You never know what the people there, don't know. Survival skill of zero.

It's interesting when I start listing what I've done in my life, for a small town girl who spent every vacation on a dairy farm. Then I start to wonder what all I don't know. Need to do some research for my post flu pandemic book.

Snow day at home and the munchkin has requested potato pancakes for lunch. I'm mostly going to do a bit of cleaning and work on poems for a chapbook today.

Hope everyone is comfortable and enjoying their day. :rose:

You probably have better survival skills than most, especially city dwellers. Knowing how the infrastructure (Power, water, sewage) works and how supplies are come by and distributed is key to survival. With the flue, how many critical jobs are lost and where will be key.

Survival in the country will be a whole lot easier than in a city. Protecting yourself and what you have from roving bands of looters will be at the top of the list to start. Out of sight, out of mind to start with. You can live without electricity but you still need it if you have a deep well and want to live more than hand to mouth.

Yeah, there is a lot that you need to know or you need a resource for manuals and books. The internet will be gone most likely. Hunting and fishing will be a necessity. Seeds for vegetables will be precious. Gardening tools will be in high demand. The horse will make a big comeback.

It is the small things that will kill you. Medicine will be a thing of the past.

I could go on and on.

:D I've actually been working on this for several years and live on the farm I used to visit. I could give you chapter and verse on alternative power (goat powered washing machine anyone?) and what sources of water are on the property (deep well, hand dug well and spring house.) I'm more working on the impact of jobs no longer fulfilled by members of society aspect you mentioned. Though I also have some resources to read on handmade bullets and foraging for things like chicory.

What calibre ?
I used to make my own .357 /.38 bullets cast from the liquid metal.

It's gloomy, dull, and getting dark. It's also still bloody snowing; the sort that blows all over the place, particularly in the eyes.

For now, however, Coffee.

PS. Anyone else seen these snow sculptures ?

Caliber really doesn't matter. The mold takes care of that. Keeping the metal pure and not too hot makes the process. For metal, raid a wheel and tire shop. That usually have a barrel full of discarded wheel weights.

A decent reloader would be worth it's weight in gold.

One cuppa coming up.
