A cold, dark time here. Too late for tea; too early for coffee; too bleakly quiet to rattle the trash cans for morning pickup, dodging bears.

Don't reach for mandolin or metate or microwave popcorn.

Mark the hours till I'm inside yet another medical imaging device; I've lost count of how many this year.

Think about retuning a mando... no, put that down! And not nearby!

Okay, just one cuppa depresso, I promise.

That you have lost count of the number of machines indicates at least one Good Thing.
Fingers crossed.

Part of my tooth has fallen off.
Dentist, 2.20pm. . . .

Coffee. . . . .

Morning all,

I shouldn't be awake this early but the last rain storm woke me up. I guess coffee is the first thing on the list.

Good luck, Hypoxia. Maybe the new doctor can see something the old one didn't.

HP, have you been playing with the dragons doubloons again?

Now for breakfast. Something hot and sweet, me thinks. :)

Morning Tex. Hot and sweet? Oh, you mean to eat? Oh, you mean FOOD to eat? Oh well, it was a long drive..... me, I'm indulging. Two entire donuts and coffee. Totally unhealthy but what the heck. Work today, gone tomorrow for Xmas so it's my last work donuts for a while..... but I'll join you for more coffee

Dang, now it's too late for coffee. Today was NPO (nothing by mouth) after 8am and the alarm got me up at 7:53. I managed pills and basic food by 8:01 but no time for espresso. I'll beg coffee ice cream for lunch.

CORRECTION: Just received notice that I've been rescheduled for mid afternoon. Lunch and breakfast and coffee are allowed now. Huzzah!

Old doc thought there was something new doc doesn't suspect. Was a roving blood clot behind my eye problems? Meanwhile, I forget whether today the cat (I visualize a Burmese Longhair) will sniff at my head or my chest. (CAT scan, eh?)

We await storms, rain, replenishing the water supply, drought alleviation. Maybe some rain dances will help. Let's see, what's the forecast? [/me looks] Hmmm, a tiny bit of rain and snow early tomorrow morning, but then sunny and dry for a week and more. Dang. Hope we don't have to recycle the coffee.

That reminds me of the old BOBS song:
Food to rent
Food to borrow
I'll return it by tomorrow
Humans are only part of nature's scheme to transport water from one place to another, y'know. And are we paid for our tedious work? Ha. We're all slaves to the water cycle. Unless we're freeze-dried like Folgers crystals.

Okay, time for quadruple espresso and a slice of apple pie. Yessss...

Jolly good ! particularly the Aplple Pie (with real cream ?)

Evening all,

Had the house to myself this afternoon, so I wrote my happy little ass off. Now it is fresh coffee and a sandwich or two for supper. Country boy steak, better known as bologna. ;)

I perved out, had a scoop of Pumpkin Spice ice cream. Yum.

I staggered through the imaging shop this afternoon. The cat sniffed my head AND chest so I don't know what was suspected. Just another piece of the puzzle that is me. ;)

We're plotting a stay near Palm Springs in early January - warm sun, swimming pool, mountain tram, etc. I may insist on a Los Angeles detour because the Angel's Flight cogway is running again! I never had a chance to ride it before. Add a peek into the Bradbury Building and my day will be complete. Well, maybe a stop at the Museum of Jurassic Technology, too. EDIT: Maybe the La Brea Tar Pits too. I haven't been there in many decades.

Just stay out of the the LaBrea Tar Pits. I hear the swimming is a little sticky there.

That one'slost me - completely.
My Dragon keeps his Dubloons in the Bank (he's quite civilised, really).
I never mess with them; He has a method of toasting that's quite impressive. :)

But my Dentist fixed up the problem (and did some of the work scheduled for next month), so I should not have to bother him much before next June.

But now, as grey dawn breaks in the East, I figure that it's time for Coffee.

In Los Angeles on famous Wilshire Blvd are The La Brea Tar pits, redundantly named: "La Brea" means "the tar" so the name renders as The The Tar Tar Pits. I think Lucas was inspired to name Jar-Jar Binks after Tar Tar Pits. Oy.

Anyway, these tarry deposits, a taste of the pools of petroleum underlying much of the Los Angeles Basin (which is about 31000 ft / 9300 m deep in sediment), have been covered with a sheen of water and debris for many many millennia -- a layer that hides what's beneath. Critters step in to drink and are swallowed and preserved by the glop. Mammoths, sabre-tooth tigers, dire wolves, bison, dawn horses, giant sloths, American lions, other fauna of eons past, have been bodily extracted.

Don't swim there.

The black shade of midnight broke over us not long ago. Only herbal tea or a cup of miso soup are appropriate now. I'll skip the bag of Genmai-Cha tea in the soup; save that for mid-morning.

Thanks for correcting my spelling on La Brea. I was at least close. I haven't been there in a whale of a long time and was too lazy to look it up.

HP, civilized dragons are in short supply. ;)

Okay, I'm awake and it is way too early but I will start a fresh pot of coffee for the thundering herd of morning people. Oh wait, that thunder is the storm that blew through here earlier.

Anywho, I now have my days and nights totally screwed up so, back to writing. Housemate and houseguest will be back Friday after visiting family. That's time enough to straighten out the time thing.

Thunder?

That's the Ministry of Defence contractors at Shoeburyness exploding time-expired ordnance. They are many miles away across the Thames Estuary but certain weather conditions make the explosions felt here.

From time to time the house shakes. In very still calm conditions the impacts are massive, even breaking other people's windows at their worst. Yet some days we hear a faint sound and there is no other effect.

I think they are trying to get all the explosions done before they close down for Christmas and the New Year. They've been banging away every few minutes since 8 am.

More coffee might make the explosions less annoying...

So I'm going to be incommunicado except for my phone. And that kills my eyes if I use it for too long.

It's been a wonderful year popping in to to Tex's Coffee Shop and chatting. So thank you each and every one of you for helping make my year a better one and I hope I've helped make yours slightly more entertaining ... :rose::rose::rose:

1] Does that mean youshould wear a sitable aid to vision - like - glasses perhaps ?
2] Your highly entertaining remarks have raised many a smile; thank you

We have fall . . . for a week or two.

I scheduled surgery for the end of January. It can snow while I'm recovering.

As long as you don't get a wild attack of 'gotta get this tidy' while you are recovering, Madam. :rose::rose:

My Dragon is a very civilised type. Worth thousands is this one (as I have told others, the answer is NO).
Thank you for the coffee.

I learned to be very wary of walking around European antique stores with a credit card. Do you have any idea how tempting a cased set of cap lock dueling pistols with all the accessories can be? And it was just sitting there in the shop window! I figured that since it didn't have a price tag I couldn't afford it and walked away . . . reluctantly!

Airport boredom strikes. Got an hour to kill before we board. Transit stops, gotta love em. But I get to catch up on my reading at least. Coffee and a good book. Just wish the seats were more comfortable.

And now, signing off.. z Happy Christmas everybody

*dropping off a tray of assorted holiday cookies to go with the coffee and making sure there is eggnog available*

*look around, spy a place to park my butt. plop down, put feet on coffee table, and snuggle in with eyes closed.*
