Almost every day I watch cormorants fly over.

Unlike geese they have little sense of direction and no order in their flight patterns. They seem to wander over the sky arguing about where to go and how to get there - and rarely agree.

Seen the Swans at Slimbridge ?
They are worth the trip.
I had never seen a Black Swan before; they are impressive !

Thank you, kind sir.

*curtsey*

*a fumbling move aptlessly disguised as another curtsey to pick up a dropped :rose:*

Madam,
If you'd care to step out of your sparkly bubble, I'll pass you a cup of nice coffee.
:rose:

 I take a day off and all hell breaks loose around here. Stories get savaged, hoses freeze, chloe gets stuffed, geese fly, swans fly, sparkly bubbles float by. Even a good witch who doesn't like coffee. Will wonders never cease.

There's some instant hot chocolate somewhere around here.

Evening all.

We wish we were in Guatemala now.
Days of the Dead festivities will be awesome.
Great coffee too, fresh from the finca.
And really really low living costs.
And many fresh avocados.

When can we catch the next southbound Zeppelin?

Our local Dia de Los Muertos celebrations started yesterday and will continue through next weekend.

Part 4 of one of my ongoing stories will be placed here at a parade for the occasion. That's a lot of what I know about the story so far.

Edit: Oh, there will be some sex. And spiritual conflict.

I planted 22 hyacinths this afternoon. I'm looking forward to a fragrant spring.

Sometimes it's good to rest. Especially if you just pulled all the muscles in your ribs. I could see a day with my arms down as a good thing.

True. They aren't as sore today, but I've been forcing myself to relax so they improve. It's tough, though. I see things I want to do, like put some boxes of stuff into the van for donating, but so far I've been able to ignore them.

Keep up the resistance, only gentle stretches I imagine. :rose:

Finished and sent my query letter and synopsis to a few friends for feedback.

This is for your new novel?

It's actually a novel I finished a couple of years ago and allowed to languish in my hard drive. I've written the third book over the past two NaNoWriMos and intend to write the second book this time around. So, I'm ready to start searching for an agent and/or editor.

If there's a better sushi place in all of Portland than Bamboo Sushi I'd like to know about it. The Cubette and I went there after the symphony matinee (Mozart's Jupiter symphony among other pieces) and ate ourselves into oblivion. Burp. Yanno, this hibernation idea sounds better and better . . .

We finally got cold enough to frost the basil, which is always the first thing to go. The official low was 37F, but I went outside at 10:30 this morning and found the garden hose still frozen.

You are a little further north than I am, we get the freezing night temps by next weekend. Guess winter will come whether I am ready for it or not.

Winter for a few days this week and back to fall next week. I can handle that. :)

Ah - 'fall'; otherwise known as "Autumn".
The season mists & mellow fruitfulness [or something like it].

Actually, it's bloody cold at 5am (GMT (=UTC 0)).
I think I'm going to have to reset my heating timer.

Tx, I think finding some GOOD chocolate for drinking might be beneficial
(At least 70% cacao) with real milk (Non-dairy creamer ? Pah !).

Meanwhile, it's stupid-o'clock, cold and I am in need of my breakfast.
But at least it ain't raining. . . .

Morning HP, you caught me on the way to bed.

One cuppa hot chocolate coming up. It is instant but it is the best I can do at this hour.

Good night to all.

I know a gringa craft-jewelry dealer in Arizona (US) and Guererro (MX) who goes by 'Autumn' (Otoña) because Jill, her given name, is pronounced heel in Spanish, and she is no heel.

Has fall fallen here in the central Sierra Nevada mtns? Hard to tell. We still have wry mantids lurking warily around the perimeter. Blasts of cold weather, then hot. The odd helicopter overhead, for either a wildfire or a fugitive. The odd avalanche warning on the highway around Kit Carson Pass.

No bear or puma sign lately. I guess that means the seasons are changing.

Coffee? Hey, it's three-dark-hundred here. Coffee comes later. With rum. Y'all are welcome to join in. We have extra cups. Yeah, the ones with reindeer.

/QUOTE]

Those are Bewick rather than Black Swans in the video HP. Some of them have been regular returnees for over 20 years. They can be Id'd by the colour markings on their beaks which are as unique as fingerprints. They spend their summers in the Russian Arctic. The staff at Slimbridge give 'em all names.

Every bird over three years old apparently has been examined and without exception is carrying lead shot. As Russia is the only country left which uses actual lead, the finger has been pointed in that direction - another Russian collusion perhaps!

I was brought up less than 5 miles from Slimbridge and visit every year or two when I am in UK.

Most of the land occupied by the WWT at Slimbridge is still owned by the Berkeley family which I believe had strong connections with early settlement in America, particularly in Virginia and NJ.

As a side note, William Tyndale, the man who translated the Bible into English in the 16th century is believed to have been born in Slimbridge.

Local auction again...

Last week, among other lots, I sold some rude DVDs. They were rated 18, not R for restricted, and were mainly of nude busty women.

I had bought them at the auction six weeks or so ago. I had been the only bidder and got them at the reserve price of £4. Everyone else was too embarrassed to bid. :D

I had thought, wrongly, that they might provide some plot bunnies. They didn't. There were 100 DVDs but only 15 titles.

I put them back in the auction after I had viewed a sample. There are much more explicit videos on YouTube etc.

But this time three telephone bidders all wanted the DVDs. I sold them for £22. That's not a bad profit for a flawed purchase.

A 350% profit? Now that's capitalism!

I made marginally less than that with the auctioneer's commission on the original purchase. But £22 was my net receipt!

That more than paid for the antique (pre-1905) Wheeler and Wilson sewing machine I bought for £8.80 last week.
