The hurricane is now forecast to be a cat 3 by landfall. The problem is, it is only going a short ways inland and stalling before hooking a right turn toward Houston but it's taking 4-6 days in doing it. Forecast on rain totals are now over 30+ inches in some areas. 14-16 where i am.

So if ya want some rain water, wait a few days and we'll pipe you a few thousand gallons.

Just remember to close all the windows Tex. One nice thing about up here. Y the other border. No hurricanes. Just winter blizzards to look forward too and I am coz it already feels like Fall. It was cold last nite. As in "where's the duvet" cold.

Morning all.

I've got all the hatches battened down. This ain't my first rodeo. We had Rita and Ike three years apart. That was eight years ago. I don't expect a lot of wind and I'm high enough not to worry about large amounts of rain. Houston on the other hand floods in some places when more than three people take a pee at the same time.

No rain here so far, just clouds. Landfall is projected to be 1AM in the morning on the east side of Corpus. The feeder bands are already lashing Galveston and Houston south of I10.

Fresh coffee and lots of it are required so help yourself.

That Ark comment earlier has the plot bunnies hopping but my boats are way to small unless everything is embryos. Hence the plot bunnies.

You can send us some water. Sydney has been dry as a witches tit this winter, and if we don't get rain soon we will be in for an early fire season.

Have you considered putting two or three together (tri-moran ?) ?
Ah - perhaps not, eh ?
Good Luck with that.

Perhaps some real de-salinization stuff ?

I sympathize. Right now my state is actually completely out of drought conditions for the first time in thirteen years. No major fires this year. It's been good.

The proximity of Tx's bad weather is now being reported over here.
Good Luck to anyone else caught in that.

Coffee, anyone ?

Rainy season hasn't started in the PNW yet but give us another month and a day without precipitation will be a rare one. I just hope it doesn't snow this year. That stuff is white and nasty.

Most unpleasant indeed. (Los Angeles native speaking.) I've been snowed in and snowed out of various places for lengthy periods. Thirty-foot drifts around my mountain home, ay yi yi. But the bears and pumas stay away.

"Watch out where the huskies go
And don't you eat that yellow snow."

I hear of a Minnesotan who, tiring of white winters, strapped a snowblower atop his car and drove south. When people pointed and asked, "What's that?" he knew he'd gone far enough.

Hey Texas, the storm could be worse. It could be sharknados.

I happen to like the winter. Sure, there are days when driving through it sucks, or when there's ice that makes driving dangerous . . . but the snow itself is pretty.

very much ditto!

I love reclining on my couch with a good book looking out my picture window at snow falling on the ground and covering all the trees in front of my house - pure bliss.

I love snow when it falls someplace else. It's beautiful (and essential) in the mountains, but if we get enough to accumulate here then I want to be on vacation someplace more tropical. Maybe Belize. I understand that Costa Rica is nice.

I use my age as an excuse to hire a plow service, so I can stay on my couch watching the snow (and plow.)
I enjoy it even more now....:D

I used to stay in, citing my age as the reason, but because I don't get younger, and because I enjoy being out there, I wander around in the snow despite my age. :D

Oh me too, don't get me wrong. It's the shoveling part I'm quite over.

That part is rough on the back.

I have two chapters done of the latest story. They total (roughly) 10k. I should have more words but I helped my son four days over the past two weeks.

Congrats, that has to feel great.
Enjoy your weekend
Happy writing

There's snow at elevation in Mexico and Guatemala and probably Costa Rica but not Belize -- too low. And odd. The "best hotel" in the national capitol, where we stayed a few years ago, wouldn't qualify as a welfare motel in USA. (My partner used to inspect welfare motes and so knows.) We had to bootleg a WiFi signal with a tin-plate antenna.

I have a few Belize stories. But it's late. Maybe another time. G'night. No coffee.

Well, it was a cat 4 when it made landfall. The Rockport area northeast of Corpus got hammered. A friend lives about a third of the way in that direction and reported he had gotten 8 inches of rain in eight hours already. Lots of tornado warns south and southwest of Houston.

The storm is headed north toward San Antonio but will hook a u-turn and go back to Rockport only to make a left turn and head for Houston in a arc that will put it on the northwestern side of town. 25-40+ inches of rain is an insane number even if you string it out over four days.

A few sprinkles here so far but they have all the flood gates open on the dam. They are forecasting 10-15 inches here over the next few days.

Ok, weather report over. Fresh coffee and a kettle for those in need.

We have a couple of Litsters in San Antonio, my granddaughter just started college there. She's headed home for a few days.

Did you mention a hot kettle ?
Oh goody; coffee!
Ah, steaming kettles.
Double, double, toil and trouble
Fire burn and cauldron bubble
Thrice to thine, and thrice to mine
And thrice again to make it nine
Yeah, love them hot kettles and bubbling cauldrons. Eye of newt, tongue of lark, brain of conservative, juniper berries, other small things thrown in. And coffee beans. And cocoa beans. And vanilla flowers. Mix in a blob of honey to overpower the taste of psilocybin mushrooms. Caffeinated hallucinogens -- an ideal mix. Oooh, the colors!

I plug into online Harvey news every now and then. Tomorrow should be vivid. Everybody in the path: GET AWAY! Everyone in the area: STAY SAFE! Don't drive through big puddles like I once did -- the LandCruiser nearly washed away. With dogs inside. Tragedy narrowly averted...

Yes, coffee sounds good. Pancakes sound good.

Lots of tornadoes warnings in the outer rain bands. four verified on the ground in southwest Houston. 50 mph winds at the seawall in Galveston. !!0 mph winds south of San Antonio. Tons of rain all along the coast.

Highway flooding is already starting all along the coast.

This storm is predicted to wander around like a lost tourist.

Coffee and pancakes coming up.... that's exactly what I'm having in a little while.

Doesn't look good on the news. Keep your head down, Tex  - Me, I was always terrified of tornadoes. I want to stay far far away from them, hurricanes and from earthquakes. Blizzards? No problem.
