Enjoy :rose: Haven't managed anything but editing lately myself.

I meant to be writing but so far I've added nothing new, just changed some phrasing and words to what is already there.
sigh...I love nights like these (he says sarcastically)

That's all I managed today, too. :rose:

I was intent on submitting my new story today, then my wife stumbled out of bed at 10:30 (early for her) and let me know that we had a crowd coming over in an hour.

The final pass-through for the story got postponed, but I had a pleasant three hours visiting with an old friend and her kids, and her grandchild. Then when they left to catch their flight I got back to my story.

I even got to unload most of my built-up supply of zucchini on the guests. The rest got grilled for dinner tonight. I'm zucchini-free until I pick again in the morning.

One of our guests was a 30-ish woman who works for a faith-based social activist group working near the Mexican boarder. The faith in this case is Roman Catholic. Their major issue right now is immigration. They're supporting a Columbian man in sanctuary to keep him from deportation.

The organization gets themselves into some very tense confrontations where (by her words) she's protected by her rosary. She's starting to think that it would be a good idea to carry a weapon of higher caliber.

Things are getting interesting. My usual house guests showed up with a one ton pickup and a 35' goose-neck travel trailer. It seems that they have bought the lot across the road and to the south about a hundred yards or so. There was a house trailer there until it burnt down over the Christmas holidays.

The trailer is now set up, blocked up, and tied down. The electric, water, and sewage are hooked up. Monday, there will be a new white rock driveway and parking pad. Once that is in, a two car, carport can be installed.

Getting that rigged backed in the driveway and spotted on the existing pad was a job and a half. It's parked at a 45 degree angle to the road with the door on the side away from the road. With the awning rolled out it;s shaded and pretty private. Trees and brush on three sides and the trailer blocking the view from the road.

There are plans for a wooden deck the length of the trailer and eight feet wide. I'm trying to convince them a composite deck would be better. Low maintenance and it will last ten times as long.

Now for a shower and bed. :)

I have trouble with the US-term "trailer". Is that like a 'fixed' mobile home ?
[goose-neck' ? WTF ?]

We got sunshine at this elevated time of the morning. at 16C
Coffee in the garden I think.

A gooseneck is a type of hitch. You have the conventional trailers (I think they call them caravans in the UK) that hook to a ball bar towing fitting at the rear, so you can tow them with any big car or SUV. Then you have the gooseneck / 5th wheel trailers like the one below where there's a fitting in the back of the pickup where you hook the trailer up to. I don't ever recall seeing these in the UK but I was only there a couple of times....

So here's a gooseneck trailer ....

And here's a typical 5th wheel hitch in the back of a pickup truck

As compared to one of these.....

Definitely NOT to be confused with a fixed mobile home.

Morning People.

Thanks for giving HP some good answers. Most goosenecks have a large ball and socket like a regular hitch but it is in the middle of the truck bed and attached to the frame underneath. Better weight distribution for the truck. Kills sway and increases load capacity.

Oh, by the way, Chloe, there is a Infinity series team with 'Black Rifle Coffee' for a sponsor. It may have been a one shot deal for the Watkins Glen race.

Ok, the coffee is fresh and I have been threatened with bodily harm if I don't come back to bed. I threatened them with bodily harm if I do come back to bed. There is definitely a plot bunny in there somewhere. :D

Good Morning. :rose: There is fresh blueberries so there are whole wheat blueberry pancakes, and I am avoiding race weekend. Thinking of taking munchkin to the park today, packing a lunch. Hopefully the rain will hold off.

Lawn is mowed. Youngest daughter just arrived at the airport and the older two will be here in an hour.

Lawn mowed. Hmmm, I just remember that I was going to mow a couple of weeks ago.

One man went to mow
went to mow a meadow. . . . :).

Chloe, Many thanks for the mobile things explanation. :rose:

And now - a coffee.

PS. Watkins Glen ?
Do they still have Formula 1 races there ?
(I notice from Wiki that it's a bit shorter.)

After a lazy morning, I decided to do some baking. So there's banana bread cooling on the counter. I tossed in some fresh blueberries just because I had them.

Now to see if I can make progress with this story wandering around in my head.

I have one or two of those, but it's going to be hard for me to write for a while. There are too many people in the house, and we have things to do.

There's actually two courses, well an extra bit. I think they can but I'm not sure as I don't pay attention to racing. I understand things have been updated in the past couple years.

I'm pretty much alone 24/7 so I can write whenever I feel like it.

Managed to get the draft of a story off to a Spanish anthology that I've polished up when the Citi Open tennis finals in Washington were on break. Now, even though it's 9:00 p.m., out to the garden pavilion to read in two novels.

Well, round here, the wind's eased up but the clouds are getting darker.
Time for a relaxing coffee, I think.

PS. Isn't "Mobile home" something of an oxymoron ?

'Mobile Home' in the UK is a legal definition that allows land to be used that would otherwise be unsuitable for dwellings. There are rules that apply to them but not the full planning and building regulations. If you look at many seaside holiday parks they are sited on low-lying land that could flood.

In theory they can be moved on their wheels, and if necessary they can be for a short distance. For a longer transit on public roads they have to be loaded on a flat bed truck.

There are financial advantages for mobile homes. If they are not lived in for twelve months they count as holiday homes and pay reduced council tax. If the whole site is only open for six months in any year they also get reduced energy bills.

But if the site is licensed for 12 months a year then it is a residential site and all appropriate taxes apply.

There are definitions that are arcane unless you are a mobile home owner:

'Chalet' is a prefabricated building on a mobile home site that is not moveable except by being dismantled and re-erected on a prepared site.

'Lodge' is a double width mobile home that can only be moved one half at a time.

There are width limits for mobile homes so that they don't become excessively wide loads when being transported on a truck. That's why lodges can be divided into two halves.

They have to have ventilation holes in the floor so that heavier than air gases e.g. CO2 don't accumulate. In the toilet/bathroom they can be draughty on the bum...

Thanks, Ogg.
I saw a couple of Deer this afternoon; I was able to get a [bad] photo of them, though.

Ah well, time for another coffee, I'm thinking.

Morning all. Yeah, I know, it's halfway to noon but it's raining and i slept in. Let there be coffee.

It seems. No white rock today with the rain. For those that don't know, white rock around here is a mixture of clay and crushed limestone. It's laid down slightly damp and rolled in at about three to four inches. After that, water it and let the sun dry it out. Hard as concrete and a hell of a lot cheaper.

Now to see if i can slip in some writing.
