As the elevator doors split open, I shook my head slightly, realizing the lateness of the hour, and having that fact settle onto me. The wedding had been a hell of a success, but it was certainly winding down at this point.*
If I had thought that I would be heading back to my room with one of the bridesmaids, I was going to be disappointed. The only one who wasn't already attached---either seriously dating or married---very quickly started hitting on one of the other women at the reception and soon were dancing sinuously together out on the floor. At some point I had stopped paying them any attention, and they had disappeared. So either they had parted ways, or more likely had ended up back in one of their respective rooms to continue what they had started on the dance floor, but sans clothes and horizontal. 'So much for that idea', I thought gloomily.*
Even the married woman all appeared happily so. Somehow I'd landed at the on wedding that had either women too young or too happy with their men. I thought for sure one of them would have wanted to take a tour of the coat closet with me. Not so.*
Just returning from the roof pool and still wearing a towel about my waist, I had excused myself for the evening from the group up there a still vaguely recognizeable as people who had made a point of coming up to me during the reception and congratulating me on such a fantastic night. They were also recognizeable as being slightly tipsy as they lurked about the hottub. The music had been excellent, the food had been top shelf and the ceremony had been flawless. And with any luck Brad and Jessica were in their suite a floor or two above fucking eachother senseless. Somewhat jealous of them, I recalled the number of times she'd had her ankles locked behing my back. 'She could be a nasty creature when she was in a mood.' I would miss that. Smiling I knew that I had ample opportunity for other entertainment and that our time together had long since passed.
Stepping away from the bank of elevators I made my way in the direction of the banquet hall, hoping that my rental jacket and bowtie were still slung over the back of a chair there.*
What I found on arriving there was that the hall was almost entirely cleared. The chair and tables had all been folded away and onto rolling racks that were in the process of disappearing to who knows where in the bowels if the hotel. There were a few hotel staff still around, rolling the stacks of tables out into the hall and out if sight. I thougt my best bet would be with the bartender, who still stood behind her station stacking heavy looking trays of pint glasses, newly sparkling and ready for the next day.*
She had her back to me as I approached, and it was then that I saw my cast off clothing resting on the bar, just waiting to be picked up. I figured I ought to say something, so at least as not the startle her from her work. She was wearing earphones so I had to raise my voice a bit to get her attention. Finally she turned her gaze to me, eyes running over my bare chest in a quick glance that seemed to go right through me, and take me all in at the same time. When here eyes finally locked on mine, I must have looked shell shocked as my mouth hung slightly agape. Staring back at me were two the most startlingly beautiful eyes that I'd ever seen.*
