Cold here, still. In the 30s. We're supposed to get more snow again tonight. I doubt it will stick here. The mountains are getting hammered, tho. Passes are closed periodically for avalanche control.

I think you can stream HBO’s service called MAX, but not sure how much it is? We have the subscription so it comes with that. We’ve been talking about cutting the cord as I’m about the only one who even turns the TeeVee on anymore.

We talk about it also. Our cable bill is atrociously high. It would mean another thing for me to take care of and manage so I haven't done anything about it yet.

We used our daughter’s login to watch it. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to. Streaming services are getting more and more expensive! We have Hulu Live which gets us most of the channels you get with a typical cable package, and it includes Disney+ which is a “must have” for the grandkids. We also get Amazon Prime but don’t use it often.

We can get Hulu through T-Mobile on our geezer plan. It's already paying for the Netflix. I'll have to research it to see if we can get the channels we want, mostly news and football, then we can dump Comcrap except for internet. We also have AP, but don't watch much on there. I watched Mrs. Maisel but it's, sadly, over.

That’s a beautiful state but I know how drought conditions can mess up summer. When I lived in CA wildfires were almost always a lingering concern. A few summers ago, thick smoke from wildfires hundreds of miles away from my house in the Bay Area lingered for a week.

We had the same conditions then. Couldn't even see across the lake. I was trapped inside as I couldn't breathe for all the smoke.

I was reading a A.P. story about “Ghost” networks. The ones that hang on for no apparent reason.

Disney lost 93% of its subscribers since 2014 (ouch).

AMC lost 73%

Most lost about 50%.

In 2015 87% of homes had cable, today it’s 47%. I cut my cord in 2013 when I learned a third (!) of my basic cable bill was just for ESPN. They wouldn’t unbundle so I bought an antenna for Jeopardy and the News. Buh-Bye.

The only cable network to gain viewers since 2014 is the Hallmark channel which caters to older women.

Which streaming services do you have access to?

We have Comcast, Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Paramount +. We do watch ESPN when football is on if not on a regular network.

I've considered a leaf antenna but we have a lot of trees in our neighborhood. A roof antenna might be problematic as we get a fair number of windstorms.

It’s raining like hell in NJ today, so no outdoor work. But I am picking up a new sidesxside utility vehicle. In the rain of course.

As I mentioned somewhere above, we’ve threatened to cut the cord but always find an excuse not to. I’m throwing good money after bad I know, but nobody ever called me a financial genius!

To answer your questions though, CABLE.-the old Time Warner, now Spectrum. Love/hate relations with them over the years but all in all they’ve been good at what they delivered.

Not sure what constitutes a “ghost” chan, but I assume it’s when you cut the cord they just dont leave the package?

Streaming. I’ve been a Netflix member since ‘06 (yeah, the snail mail CD days) so we have that. MAX (HBO) came with that subscription. I’ve owned an Apple TV since around ‘12 and we have added Disney+(just canceled due to rising costs $140 this year), Discovery +, Peacock (to watch the Tour de France), Paramout + (for something?), Showtime PPV (don’t even know if I watch it…or pay for it for that matter), Amazon Prime (included in your Prime membership), and odds and ends of CBS sports, ESPN, MLB, March Madness Live app and Radio Paradise. Now Apple is charging $10 a month for their services a mini bundling.

I read an article somewhere that said eventually they’re going to bundle all these and resell them in much the same way your now cut cable company was doing it before, you’ll just have more control of the content. If you add up my Apps above (and include Disney) you’re looking at a $200 streaming bill. Unacceptable. I’ve got to get a hold of this.

I’ll be honest, the only reason I haven’t cut the cord totally is because of ESPN…not that watch it day to day but for one reason and one only. They have the exclusive rights to Formula One Racing (as evidenced by my F1 thread over in the Playground) I’m huge fan, and I like that I can record the races I miss (I travel for my job) and can just drop in and watch. I know they have an App, but I’m lazy…need to change that. Any motivational speakers here!

I dunno how I feel about cutting the cord. I don’t really watch much hard-core TV. (Just hardcore porn!)

But we like to watch TV passively. College hoops, and baseball, while I read or work.

But jeapardy every fucking night!!!

And I guess we could do this by cutting the cord… I guess. Like @HumpDayHoratio I sort of see it as a neutral. I work from him a few days a week so I’d need a super strong internet connection that doesn’t go down.

you’re looking at a $200 streaming bill.

I’m in for about $25 and even that’s a bit overboard.

I have Netflix and Prime, I didn’t even blink paying the $3-4 dollars a month to keep it Ad free. (I’m frivolous )

I have PBS Passport because I donate at least $60 a year. The best value in entertainment anywhere, and keeps PBS alive. (I didn’t count this in my $25)

Lastly I subscribe to Apple+; they don’t have a huge library but the quality is outstanding.

When Netflix dropped DVD delivery in response to complaints one of their spokesman commented it wasn’t a change in business model, it was always the plan or they would have named it DVDinyourmailbox.com.

We live at similar elevation. But, the mountain is just uphill.

Big difference, a couple hundred feet in elevation can make temperature wise.

Be careful, that’s a lot of precipitation no matter what form it takes.
