My old dog woke me up at 4 am EST 😪. But I was able to go back to sleep and now up and ready for the day. I am thinking of making some breakfast muffins.

LOL--I'll see your 50 and raise you another 25! Mostly I'm reading Lit, reminiscing, and indulging a few fantasies in lieu of ability. Grateful for an FWB who is similarily rich in decades and indulgent of my aged self. Just wrote my first Lit story--and featured some senior lovers. I do all the grocery shopping and cooking, cleaning the kitchen and dining rooms (sort of my domain), make sure my kids all get their medications am and pm, take the kids to all dentist and most doctor appointments, take my boy to all his soccer practices and games (my wife takes our youngest to all the figure skating stuff, except when she needs me to do it, but she hasn’t subbed for soccer yet)… I do a lot of it. When we had kids in diapers, I did most of the diaper changing and putting to bed too. Yes, it is exhausting.

I don’t think I have a bucket left anymore, except for the one I’ll eventually kick! (Which I don’t think my wife and kids are going to be prepared for when it happens).

Love our hummingbirds but the migration of Cedar Waxwings are the highlight! They usually pass through in late Feb or early March, hang out in the green ash tree and eat the new pods!

What a weekend… so at 61, I’m still dealing with kids because of starting a family later in life, and on Saturday we had a combined birthday party for my two youngest (one turned 8 late last month, the other turns 9 in a few weeks), it was decided to serve spaghetti (but I couldn’t get a head count ahead of time of course), and I had to make sure there was sauce with no meat because my sister and brother in law are now vegan, plus my wife promised that there would be spaghetti noodles, plus zoodles (zucchini noodles) and broccoli as low carb options for people. It’s been a while since I made zoodles, so I looked for my Vegetti to cut the zoodles with but of course it’s gone, so I used my mandoline to cut the zoodles. Zoodles can’t be boiled because they retain too much moisture so I bake them in the oven at 350 for a half hour or so on a layer of paper towels. I didn’t have time to make a homemade cake, so I bought one instead.

So the party started at 4, and we had to be done by 6 because we had to bring the little ones to friends so my wife and I could have a date night.

For Christmas, since my wife keeps saying she doesn’t want stuff, she wants experiences, I got tickets for us to see Colin Mocari (sp?) and Brad Sherwood performing an improv show that was originally titled “Scarled Scriptless” but was called a different name when we got there.

Parking was crazy until I remembered a parking garage a block down that I parked in, and we got to the theater and found our seats. Now, my wife has diabetes and her sensor warned her that her blood sugar was way too high, so we got some water for her to drink and she set her pump to give her more insulin.

The show started, and it was hilarious, but not long after it returned from intermission, we discovered my wife’s infusion site wasn’t delivering her insulin, and her blood sugar was still off the charts. Then she either passed out or fell asleep, so I got her awake and we had to leave before the end of the show (I hated to miss the rest of it, this was a lot of money to spend), and then I helped keep her steady as we went back to the van.

Once she was inside, she was asleep/passed out again before getting her seatbelt on, so as I raced home, every time I turned right I had to hold her up. I also called my teenage daughter at home to get everything out so I could get everything redone for insulin as soon as we got home.

Got home, helped her in, prepared a new insulin cartridge and installed it in her pump as she installed a new infusion site, and once I was satisfied she was getting insulin, I left to pick up the younger kids and get them home and to bed.

It was after midnight before we got to bed, and one of the younger kids had their ass out of bed before eight!

Today I had to go to the store again (I had gone there Saturday morning already) to buy all the things nobody remembered we needed until after the first trip, then we went to this animal experience place because they had baby capybaras as well as a one year old kangaroo, then home to have leftover spaghetti for dinner…

Damn I’m ready to go back to work tomorrow!

We get a call from son that his wife has abdominal pain and is running a temp of 103😮. We go get the granddaughter and send them packing to the ER. Tuns out she has an abscess on her kidney? We end up keeping the six-month old all night…with no mothers milk (she didn’t have time to pump) and went with some kind of formula….the baby wasn’t happy!

Long story short, they were released at 1 am, so we kept my granddaughter and all three of us trying to sooth her through the night. She finally fell asleep but it was a rough weekend for sure. Wife spent the whole night with them last night.

Sorry your weekend was spoiled also. Hope the wife is doing better.
