We have a generator, too. It's come on a couple times this winter to keep us warm and the freezer from thawing out. We get winds off the mountain and they can be brutal. Clocked over 130 mph on the anemometer on the roof. The good thing is, never have to rake leaves. They all blow away.
That is definitely a benefit..... 140 mph is like a hurricane.... I would be scared to death.... and likely in bed with the covers pulled over my head..... because we all know under the covers on the bed is the safest place in the whole house.

The gusts off the mountain can make the house shudder a bit. If I was to replace the house, I'd follow the building advice of the 3rd little pig.
