Not sure where we stand on the labour shortage and the problems that we’re going to have. That said, I may just put my feet up for three weeks and say those famous words: fuck it!
Is a labour shortage, more workers than there are jobs, or more jobs than there are workers?
I honestly don't know anyone that wants to work that cannot find a job.
When I got laid off in '22 I musta said fuck it! Turned into 3 years real quick.

My job had the audacity to catch the one I left six weeks ago. I need the same people who have been allotted to that job, so now I can't meet the lovely schedule that I put out to everyone in Manglement.

Two fucking weeks ago!!!

The sub needs to put on more people or something, or we need a new sub.

This part "The sub needs to put on more people or something, or we need a new sub." sounds like those entitled in the gubment office I left before I got laid off. Near impossible to replace. Our projects were behind most of the time. Hurry up and wait was more important than the budget we burnt through. Putting off to next year what could be completed now. As for me I miss the hands on tech, but I left for an office job that turns out after 15 years I was over paid for. I resented the waste I witnessed and was forced to participate in and am disappointed I didn't see the "downsize" RIF coming before I made the switch.

These people all work at what we refer to as the "price point." There are better people out there but they charge accordingly, and we cannot get the work if we use them. This LIHTC stuff is a kind of racket, but it's the one that HUD created some any moons ago. They hold the purse strings and call the tune. We like getting paid and we dance to it.

That's tough. LIHTC is inherited elected process DOGE was supposed to uncover. DOGE got locked out of many places they should have been. Most notorious was DHS and all the 3 letter fiefdoms contained within.
How I got around it is I was employed by the software company embedded as SME. My salary paid by the company and the company paid as software and support. .Gov got the qualified employee who was only subjected to the limits of the racket. After 8 years in the cycle, the work from home management desk was obviously too tempting for me. Looking back 4 years I wish I stuck with it. My work was is or is not for the most part with lots of project management mixed in to break the monotony. When I read some of your posts I am reminded of my job description. Herding weasels.
Hopefully you have enough project in progress so they can get paid and continue to work. No new projects for now?

Oh no, my employer has work. The issue here is, we have 7 neighborhoods in this agreement. They have to deliver in the order in which they were started. Since I'm the start guy - and likely the only one outside the office who "gets it" - I know where we're supposed to be next, and of course which order in which they were started. Problem is, this last guy they hired is a fucking moron, and he claimed he could run this shit with his eyes closed. Seems he ran that last job into a ditch with his eyes open. We had a Mandatory Teams Meeting this morning. He no-showed. If I were in charge of this shitshow, he'd be short-time.

I'll gladly fire his worthless 🍑

Because I lurves all y'all so and you have burning desperate needs to know this shit:

The Earth used to be covered in giant mushroom-like organisms.

Long before trees, Earth was home to towering organisms called Prototaxites, which lived during the Late Silurian through the Devonian periods, roughly 420 million to 350 million years ago. Fossil evidence shows they could reach up to 24 feet tall and 3 feet wide, making them the largest land organisms of their time.

Most plants back then measured only a few inches, forming low mats of mosses, liverworts, and early vascular species. Land animals — millipede-like arthropods, primitive insects, and early amphibians — were also relatively small, and the first treelike plants would not appear until millions of years later, making Prototaxites the giants of their prehistoric world.

For more than a century, scientists debated whether Prototaxites were plants, fungi, algae, or lichens, since nothing comparable exists today. Their fossil “trunks” were composed of tightly packed microscopic tubes, unlike vascular tissues in plants, and they lacked roots, leaves, or wood. Isotope studies suggest they lived as heterotrophs, absorbing nutrients from decaying organic matter rather than producing their own food.

They may also have played a role in shaping primitive soils and nutrient cycles, and some researchers speculate their massive columns offered shelter to small arthropods. Although scientists are still investigating how Prototaxites lived and precisely what role they played in early ecosystems, evidence now points to them being either fungi or an otherwise unknown fungus-like branch of life.
I just joined Late Silurian.

I’m the washboard player.

Then you'll wonder where's her aspen?
