The 50 Plus Cafe, Pub, All-Nite Greasy Spoon and Dive Bar

Numbers are worse today than yesterday.
Map looks like the entire middle region of Canada is on fire and the smoke is mainlining its way to the greater US Midwest region 😖😶‍🌫️😷💨🌫️🔥🔥🔥
Hope all of you affected my smoke and the wildfires are OK. I was just on a call with our Canadian office, and it’s very very bad in the upper Midwest and in Ontario, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

I am waiting for the day... I'm not a candidate for Lasik and by high school my correction far outstripped what radial keratotomy could correct. So cataract surgery it is... but unless you have obscured cataracts insurance won't kick in a penny... and it costs about 10x what Lasik does
Any way you can have your eye doc make a recommendation?

My sister has the same issue, and it’s so bad that she’s looking for a new eye Doctor that might be able to help her.

Bring in Wat as a consultant! 🤣🤣
I have "You can't handle the truth" running through my head but subbing in Wat for truth. 😂

I just wanna stay employed!
same - there are certain things I just don't say anymore b/c management has made it abundantly clear they do not want to hear it again.
doesn't mean it's not still relevant or correct - but I like my paycheck... I need my paycheck
It’s not that I can’t do it. In fact, I’m very lucky in that in that I’ve been around the track a few times and I could be pretty outspoken.

But basically, we are taking seven independent companies that worked independently and squishing them together into a new company with new tech, lots of sharing best practices, lots of systems, change, and process change. Lots of who moved my cheese shit, jockeying for position, type of bullshit.

I feel pretty comfortable that there won’t be a lot of organizational change. At least not yet….

The CEO and board members are pretty outspoken by saying if we don’t have the right talent we’re not doing our jobs right. Which is a good thing to hear.

And they could all get shitcanned and they could bring in a new team of motherfuckers anytime of course…

It’s just the every day politics of business. Did I say “fuck em” a few days ago?? 😂

It does have 4WD. There's a setting for 4WD high and 4WD low. IDK how they're supposed to work. I try not to drive in the snow. Our snow, when we get it, is usually very heavy and wet. It also melts then refreezes leaving ice on our hilly roads.
Here’s the quick 4WD roundown.

4WD Low - for your thick sand / snow where you wont be going more than 5-15 mph. (See what the OEM suggests)
4WD High - for your packed sand / snow where you can drive faster but still need some X-tra traction.
4WD AUTO - This setting (if you have it) is like AWD…can be used at speed but it’s still suggested that there be some contamination on the road…wet, packed snow, rocky road, etc…

Weeeeell, we finally got the boat out and hit the ramp at extreme low tide. Now I know this area from when I used to clam there as a kid for summer jobs. I know the route but had forgotten a couple of little tidbits…like how to embark off the ramp and approach the ramp at low tide🙄. This particular ramp has a zigzag pattern you have to take…I’ve only been launching Kayaks over the last twenty years so had forgotten the ins and outs…

Anyhow we get out and after some cussing and dragging a loaded boat across the pluffmud sinking to my knees, we finally get out and basically had the place to ourselves. Some pro’s in skiffs zoomed by for the back bays, but we trundled to the second bay and at around hour three…just as the Solunar Tables predicted we got into the fish! Started out catching some pin fish, then got three speckled trout, and a HUGE doormat flounder! I’m guessing in the ten lb range! He sadly had to go back because we have a moratorium on flounder now…only four or five days to keep them in September…😫🥲😭

Had a great end to an otherwise run of the mill weekend. I hope y’all had a good one also! I was too tired to cook the fish last night so just filleted them and cleaned up the mud mess. Looking forward to that tonight.

Well got a quote for back deck.... sticker shock

What questions should I ask him before I give him the go ahead?
So far I have

What material does quote include? Treated wood?.
Are supports cemented in?
Does the quote include unexpected findings like 10% or?
Itemized bill?
Time frame?

Did you learn nothing from the talking to I got because I used a chair to change a light bulb?!?!?

Wat, W, and probably G got after me because it wasn't safe! Consequently, I'm now the proud owner of a two-step stool.

Check and see if your neighbor boys have anything to help you. Maybe they will even help!
You need a cabana boy, k.

So he knew about them-thar killer tractors then.

I know a woman (kinda - not well) whose dad was killed by his tractor.
I treat tractors the same way I was taught to respect tanks. “ they are large, killing machines and designed to kill.”

So always respect.

Having said that, it was only two days ago that I learned that there’s a differential Lock to make the posi traction work! 😂

Good morning spooners. Yesterday with my friends of 50+ years is what my soul needed to lift my spirits. Another 7 hour sleep and getting ready for another day.

I have some shopping for old dog to do. But I am going to keep outdoor exposure to a minimum. Peaches are coming on so that’s for morning.

Wishing you a good day. And thanks!
And good day to you L2!

Def an itemized estimate.
Permitting costs if applicable.
Inspections.
Labor costs and estimate
Don’t know if you need to think about licensing or insurance.
If possible get a list of their materials.

Deck plans - I’d wanna see what they are thinking.

Scope and add ons: are railings required? And are they included in the cost?

Payment - never do everything upfront. 1/3, 1/3, 1/3 is the way to go when working w a contractor.

Timeline.

I might be over complicating or over thinking this, but this is what I’m thinking about…

I’m also thinking about sex.

And am on a boring meeting.

You are always thinking about sex... you have a hot wife.....

Yeah I had a few of these things written down

They are replacing same size so no zoning permit required

They are licensed and bonded should I ask for proof?

Ugh... I wish that i had you or wat to handle this shit...or boat or hdh or b2 or pretty much anyone but me....hahaha

I am done with stupid meetings for the day.

This is a good start. Wonderer has some other good advice downstream.

Here are a couple of outside the box things to consider. Do you have a lot of pine trees? Doesn’t even need to be in your yard. They shed needles and pollen cones which become lodged in between the cracks of your deck and then hold moisture. They can travel an amazing distance…Ask me how I know. After two replacements over 15yrs we threw in the towel and put in flagstone last summer…you may remember me whining about delays on that…

You’re probably going to need to water seal it at some point. The Thompson’s water seal works good but it only lasts a season or two before you have to reapply. I used the Aussie something or other, but F’ed up and used the Koa colored…waaaaay too dark and it was a south facing deck with no real shade in the afternoon…it got so damn hot…plants threw in the towel and you couldn’t walk on it.

I love the look of a nice deck. They can be little maintenance hogs…especially when long in the tooth.

PS…not my deck but I really like the look of this!

Oh..one more little gem…make sure there are no openings where critters can make under your deck their lair. We had something crawl under and die, once several years ago and again this year. We have/had a screened in porch that has decking and then an open deck…which we scrapped due to rot.

The first critter problem I had one of those outdoor carpet mats on the screened portion. Well, when our little buddy gave up the ghost, the fleas didn’t have a host…so they came up and resided in our mat! 😲. Unknowingly we brought them into the house…

We had one get under again and croak this spring. He didn’t shed fleas but it took a month of dumping coffee and baking soda between the decking before the smell went away….
