I've always been a geeky misfit, but sadly never stumbled into unconditional love. Regardless, I felt the "love letter" aspect of it. The entire story was sexy and geeky, 5 stars!
Rating-wise, this story is doing great. I really would have liked more views, though.
Knight's Gambit: A Code Of Desire
FFM geeks romance blooms with Chess, Code, Lust, vs A Bully!

I wonder if I should have submitted this under romance for better reach.

You’re welcome, I loved it!

I always struggle to decide on a category. I tend to blend so many things together!

Try not to worry about views. I was recently told that myself, and they were right. You wrote and shared an awesome story, that’s awesome in itself!

Thanks @BryanRichardson for reading my story and the lovely comment!

I'm really glad you enjoyed it even though you've never been to conventions. Hopefully something about the characters spoke to you anyway - the joy and charm of being unabashedly geeky is really what I wanted to capture.

I realized—even if this story doesn't get any more traction, I'm very happy with how it turned out. I put a fair bit of myself into it and I felt really good on the re-read. Solid win in my opinion. ^_^

The dust appears to have settled in on the contributions, no new ones slipping in through the back (late) door by now.

Twenty Eight entries, a couple authors contributing more than one.

Heavy duty cosplay, gaming, and Star (Wars and Trek) themes.

Unsurprisingly, Sci-Fi is the gorilla category with seven entries.

Followed by:

4 Romance
3 Trans/Cross
2 Celebrities, EC, First Time, Gay Male, GS, LW
and one each in Humor, Nonhuman, Mind Control.

Thanks everyone, esp. Chloe in organising this, for your efforts.

sinfantasy, I'm up to Chapter 7 on your story and am really enjoying it so far.

You may be right regarding the category, Romance might have been better, but my story, Cici's Saving Throw (in Romance) is doing well score-wise but isn't tracking well in terms of views in comparison to my recent entries in the category. I'll try to finish your story in the next day or so.

Mine (Guild Master's Favor) had gone in Romance as well, and so far it had only racked up 2k views. I suppose it may be due to a relatively low score (4.19; it's clearly not my category it'd seem), but perhaps the event is just not that popular with readers.

The number of views is a mystery to me, but I can assure you they are not dependent on the score. They also don't depend on whether your story is listed at the top of the page for new stories in the category or not.

Maybe it's a catchy title or attractive description that makes a difference... but somehow I don't agree. Unless my taste of title and description is way off from most of the readers.

Story length should also not matter because I assume that if someone clicks the links to see the first page, it should count as a view.

When I’m browsing the new list, my rough heuristic for “should I click” is 80% (does this have a lot of likes / comments) and 20% based on title + blurb.

However, a good score can help assuming it has a good title, description, tags, et cetera (assuming it isn't part of a series, which is a different ball of wax). If I see a story with a good score and another story with a low score (with the other things being equal), I'll usually check out the higher scoring story first since readers have vetted it, to a degree, first.

In my usual categories, I see this as a bonus since most stories receive their highest number of views on the first day. My stories that occasionally land at the top of a category page often do better, views wise, than those that are lower on the list. The reader's eyes catch that top story first and, if the author has done a good job with the other factors noted, will often click on it first. Whether they keep reading is another question.

All of those factors can help when a reader sees the story listing for the first time. A poor title or description isn't as informative and may not be as inviting to many readers, whereas a good one may be.

Stats honestly don't make much sense to me. A high rating from only 22 readers is what, good or bad? One of my lower rated stores has 5000 views (but only 37 votes). I largely don't worry about it but I do take pride, (I typed that before noticing the pun), in my Geek submission getting the big "H".

The one stat that means the most to me are Favorites. I was disappointed in how one of my stories was received but I got three Favorites notices and that made it all worth it.

I think Romance is one of those categories that has a smaller number of views overall. If anything, the event should get you a bit more exposure

Send a note to Laurel and also PM me and let me know and I will follow up. I'm pm'ig her later any - going to be submitting my own story today, way late, and asking her to add it so I can also ask for you too
